Ok, I’ve got a few points, first Europe:
- If Germany attacks both fleets (SZ110/111) you have to scramble something. I cannot emphasise this enough. If the BB goes to SZ111, you can probably scramble to there for free because a retreat is likely (not certain). Scrambling SZ110 when the BB isn’t there normally kills more Luftwaffe than RAF on average.
- You can still do Taranto even if you lose all the planes on London to a scramble - use the Scottish fighter. Without either it’s a big gamble.
- Don’t attack Ethiopia with only one transport. It can go bad and you normally have better use for a transport.
- Building a Persia factory UK2 is normally advised - which means you need to take it UK1.
- Taranto and SZ92 stack are stronger moves than Tobruk crush.
Against a J1 DOW:
- Don’t fear Strategic bombing. If they bomb you when they get Calcutta, they then need to repair it. This doesn’t apply in a J3/US3 DOW scenario.
- Moving to Burma UK1 with your whole force and a SZ37 DD blocker can stand against nearly the entire Japanese air force. Putting the Cruiser in SZ38 denies a landing spot too, or at least makes it much more difficult.
- Mechs allow flexibility for UK but it may not be useful UK1 if you stack Burma.
- Every extra turn Calcutta lives helps the allies a little. A US landing on Korea, reinforced by USSR, helps the allies a lot. Also keeps the Mongolian rule active.
- Midway naval base requires 3 ships to block. If there’s only one DD in range of SZ16 you should really capitalise on this.
- Entire Chinese coast can be hit from the Caroline Islands.
- Killing Japanese ICs on China is a major setback for Japan.
- Chinese troops often die easily so don’t fear doing moderately unfavourable trades with Japan especially if they cause Japan to take away from other attacks such as on India.

Global 1940 French Rebalance
In case anyone is frustrated by the way Paris is handled in all versions of Global, I have developed a slight rebalance to the way it is handled.
Basically these things are changed:
- Normandy and Southern France are made original owner Neutral Axis
- If Paris has fallen and Normandy is French but has no French units, it becomes Neutral Axis. Similarly for Southern France
- If London is taken, the North American territories convert to a Canadian economy, which works like the UK_Pacific economy.
I would think this would only reduce the bids slightly but also eliminate the massive penalty for liberating Paris.
Hopefully this variant will at least raise this issue. I think it is an improvement on BM4.

On the ELO system, we are never going to get a perfect system. Each game has a different handicap, which is unlike chess where every game is the same. Seems impossible to have a system which considers the bid as well the relative strength of every player. I’m not sure a more complex system would promote league play either.

Bids for balanced mod are going up and up. Noticing a lot of games at allies+16-22 and not seeing lots of allied victories. Interesting, I would think that a prudent bid at these levels would see a plane+sub for the med and perhaps a mech for Burma to stop a J1 DOW (If that needs to be stopped). The problem with a bid like this is that it changes the med dynamic a lot and makes it hard for the axis there IMHO. I thought the Scottish fighter was bad enough in that it discouraged the two fleet attack G1.
Don’t think that PtV is the answer either - with the change to partition SZ38 just don’t enjoy that map much. Possibly, axis strategies could develop in the future, like they have in OOB and BM, to the point that change makes sense but at present I don’t think it does.
Now I am wondering if we need a different or changed map for league games to be fun again. Or should we just think that the bid is part of the fun and you should decide where you want change the game dynamics at the start?

If you hit SZ110 with 3ftr 3tac 2SB 2subs, it becomes very unlikely that the Brits will scramble even without the BB going there. The strafe of SZ111 is by far the best way to save the BB. It can go bad, but it’s the best option if you don’t want to sacrifice the BB. Sending a second sub to SZ111 is well worth it IMO.
