      @froodster:

      Against Sime I placed a TRN in the Med, … So far I like it.

      That’s the first time I’ve seen that bid, and I must say that I like it too.  It gives the Germans a lot of flexibility within the Med.

      @froodster:

      Actually, as it is now, chances are you’d only lose two planes, possibly three.

      Yeah, that’s true.  Statistically that’s what would happen.  But I’m ever a pessimist when it comes to dice in A&A.  I always expect to lose more than the stats tell me - that way I’m not so dissapointed when I do lose those fighters.  :wink:  :-D

      There is a fleet in the way

      Not for the southern forces.  He can use the fighters in the baltic fleet to attack UK without engaging the UK fleet

      Yeah, if USA reinforces, don’t try it.  But if the UK looks the same on Germany’s turn, I reckon you’ve got a decent chance at taking it (1 inf, 1 tank, 5 fighters, 1 bomber vs 1 tank, 1 art, 2 inf), just be prepared to lose most of your fighters.

      I think the shock factor of losing UK so early generally rocks most intermediate players and he may give up there and then.

      Cheers, Rock.

      It makes sense that the fighters could retreat after any round of combat, I just wanted to be sure that the rules supported this.

    • Amphibious Assault Question

      I know that land units cannot retreat when amphibious assaulting.  My question is if fighters are involved in the combat, are they allowed to retreat or do they have to stick it out with the land units?

    • RE: Help Sticky Situation, is there any hope…

      Like tcnance says, you haven’t told us how strongly Russia is held.  If you have a chance of taking Russia with a 1-2 punch, just build defensive units in Germany/Southern Europe.  If you don’t think you can crack Russia within the next turn, send most of your tanks back to Germany, as many as you can without making your Caucasus garrison defensively weak.Â

      Do not attack W.Europe this turn if you don’t think you can push them to the sea.  Wait until next turn when your tanks from Caucasus are in range, and your newly built infantry can be used as fodder.

      Pushing the Western Allies out of Western Europe is more important than threatening Russia.  Leave that to Japan.

      EDIT: I just re-read your post and noticed that your forces are next to caucasus, not in it.  Still, it all depends on which territory next to caucasus you are talking about…  Details, details, details…  :wink:

      I also just re-read that Africa is under allied control, so UK, who owns the factory in France, would have a decent income.  This throws most of what I was talking about out the window, since UK will be able to make a decent defensive purchase next turn and place the units directly in France.

    • RE: UK strategies

      @ncscswitch:

      Well, that depends on the US…

      Does the US also build an IC in Sinkiang on US1?

      If so, then yes, with maximum Russian support, the India IC can last until J3, maybe J4 with some luck.Â

      Switch is right.  In my current game with Malus I am testing a new strat with which I built an IC in India and an IC in Sinkiang.  The Indian IC fell on J4, the Sinkiang on J7.  Without the added threat of the US IC (with Russian support), I believe the Indian factory would have fallen sooner.  In my strategy, the Sinkiang factory was the important one, though…

      I’ll explain more after the game finishes

    • RE: Germany Strategy concept…

      @ncscswitch:

      Actually, if you are doing a northern reinforce, Karelia is the landing zone, and the key territory is West Russia.

      Yeah, I can see your point and I do agree with you.

      In my previous post I wasn’t thinking broadly enough.  In my game against Malus I was trying an alternate strategy, attempting to contain Japan, which left Russia going it alone against Germany longer than they normally would.  In this instance the Russians were pushed back to Moscow before Allied reinforcements arrived on the mainland.

      It was more beneficial for me to land the troops in Archangel so they could help defend Moscow as soon as possible.

    • RE: Russian strategy, offensive tactics

      @Thamor:

      have anyone thought of taking norway too with russia?

      One reason not to attack is, like the others pointed out, it leave Russia very thin and out of position on the German front.

      Another (personal) reason is that I believe it is most beneficial for UK to take Norway.  It makes up for territory lost in other parts of the world so they can still pressure Germany fairly effectively.  Also, they do not lose any units in the taking of the territory as Germany generally evacuates Norway, given the chance.

    • RE: Germany Strategy concept…

      @Thamor:

      Best place would be for a concentrated allied effort in russia. Norway as the key supply point.

      I am playing a game with Malus at the moment (in the Games section) and I am making a concentrated effort in Russia as the Allies.  I have found that Archangel, not Norway, is the key supply point.

      Archangel is one space away from Russia, so inf only have to move one space after landing to be in a defensive position in Russia.  Also, being only one space away from Russia, it is easy to control the territory.  If Germany tries to take it, the Allies can take it back by landing troops from UK or moving them from Russia.

      Aswell as being a tough nut to crack defensively, having 3 main armies in one territory (Russia) can set up a 1,2,3 punch if necessary.

    • RE: 2 Destroyers OR 1 Battleship?

      If ever I am going to buy a battleship, I plan ahead.  I’ll save $12 on the round before I want to produce the BB, then buy the BB on the following round.

      Using this method, you are able to keep a relatively steady flow of units coming out on both turns.  This is especially helpful as USA if you already have a shuck in place and don’t want to lose momentum.

    • RE: Which way of gameplay do you prefer?

      @bebo:

      Natural dice for me too.  The trepidation and excitement before submitting the roll of a big battle, the celebrations and laments at the rolls–most exciting moments of the game.

      My thoughts exactly!

      A&A before A&A:R for me.

      I had a friend who played risk that got me into strategy gaming.  One of the players in the group got me into A&A a little while later… That was about 8 years ago.

    • RE: Us1 ?

      I normally send those US trannies north to help out in europe, but if you plan on sending them to africa on turn two wouldn’t it be better to land them south of the sahara (ie move them to brazil on turn1, then to africa turn2)?

      Your army (and transports) will be less vulnerable, and it gives you more options in the defence of africa.

      Thanks Switch.

      Unfortunately the order form on that site is for North America only.  I did get some contact info for Hasbro Australia on there though.  I’ll try contacting them and see what they can do.

      Cheers  :-)

      @Admiral_Thrawn:

      I just ordered a whole new set of playing pieces from Hasbro…

      • slightly off topic -

      Where did you buy your new pieces from?  I mean, is there a website that you can order from?

      I’d love to get my hands on some extra pieces without having to buy another board.

    • RE: Stopping a shore bombardment of 5 BB's with one sub? Is it worthwhile?

      Can someone explain this rule to me.

      I had always thought that you could assign 1 battleship to the sea battle vs the sub, and assign the rest to bombard.  If the battleship kills the sub then the other battleships could go ahead with bombardment - similar to Germany attacking Egypt on G1 with the destroyer present in the seazone. (ie. having to kill the destroyer before being able to land troops)

    • RE: First Time Troubles

      @Axel:

      but the day after: we played axis&allies for 2 hours!
      and remember this: after 1 hour, i asked her: “do you want to do something else?”
      but she said: “no no, i want to see where this is going”
      :-P
      BINGO!!!

      Ha ha, good work mate!

      One suggestion I would have for the original poster is have a decent grasp on the rules.  If you can explain the basics to your friends before the game starts, then explain the more intricate details as you come to them during the game, the game will be more fluent.  There’s nothing like checking the rule book every two minute to detract from the fun.
