I can agree to a draw.  I’m not going to make it into the playoffs anyway and I can’t always maintain a fast paced game with my school schedule in order to finish by Nov 1.

I’m in the middle of giving Diplomacy a spin.  It looks promising so far, but it may be that this is one of those games where YMMV based upon who you play with.  I can see how some types of gamers would love a game like this, while others would just grief everyone and suck the fun out of it, and still others that would hate it on principle.

      PRO:

I like the idea of having everyone move at the same time, more realistic.  You actually have surprises.  Watching the faces of people that just got stabbed is classic. No real down-time. Technically, the war has not started yet so you get to choose your own allies. No luck, only pure strategy and cunning. Support Costs.  Basically, you can’t just keep building and building forever.  More realistic. Fleets are a major part of the game, not just a mode of transportation for armies.

      CON:

Adjudication.  The simple hold, attack, support, convoy orders can get very complex very quickly, but you have to have know it to get your armies and fleets to do what you want.  Then you have to figure out how it settles when all the orders start clashing together.  Yes, there are paradoxes. Stalemates.  2, 3, and even 4 way ties are normal.  You can spend hours upon hours playing only to have no winner. Finding players.  You really need all 7 to get the full experience. If your friends are the sort that hold grudges, you may actually lose their friendship just by playing this game once.

Sorry to resurrect a thread that had it’s last post nearly two months ago but…
What if we put Italy and Japan together. It would allow Japan to have a hand in everything
      2 Player: Axis v. Allies
      3 Player: 1. axis 2. Russia/China 3. All others
      4 Player: Japan/Italy 2Germany 3. Russia/China 4. Normal Allies
      5 Player: Japan/Italy 2. Germany 3. Russia/China 4. UK/ANZAC 5.USA/ France
6 Player: 1-3 axis powers 4-6Allied powers as above
7 Player: 1-3. Axis 4-6 Major Allies 7. Minor Allies
      8 Player: Seperate anzac
      9 Player: Each for himself

This way for a game of 2-6 everybody sees both theatres while the game stays mostly historically correct (Italy Japan is a small matter as opposed to Russia+Democracy

Not that TripleA is flawless or anything, but I just replicated the situation on TripleA and it works just like you described - the planes killed the destroyer and the sub killed the transport.  Interesting thought to keep in my bag of tricks……

      @DougR:

Another difference: the lower cost of bombers combined with the defenseless transports. If Allies go KFG then Japan should buy 1 bomber each turn and send it to Europe in two turns (using conquered Egypt or Trans-Jordan). A large japanese airforce in Europe can make it really hard for the Allies, because Japan plays between UK and US and can take advantage of any openings left after the UK fleet has moved.

You know, I had to laugh at this.  I had posted the subject of limits on cooperation b/w the Western Allies and Russia.  Being the history nerd that I am, it never would have occurred to me to send Japanese bombers to Germany (and now that I know, I still couldn’t get myself to do it)!

Historically it might make no sense for this to happen (although there were examples of German/Italian subs/surface raiders operating on the Pacific and Indian oceans) but the game isn’t meant to be a faithful representation of WW2 (if so the starting production levels would be grossly unbalanced towards the Alllies).

You may choose to play it so and create your own house rules to approximate it as close to reality as possible but with out of the box rules there’s nothing to stop you or your opponents to do so.
