    • RE: Vichy France

      @Admiral:

      After Paris falls, and is held for one turn, I’m guessing the fleet, if anything of it is left, will be divided up. Maybe by dice roll, or perhaps when the Germans take a home port, or maybe if the fleet is near a British port. Thats something that would allow a Vichy element, without compromising what Larry said.

      Another way this could work is that effectively the French fleet is still Allied, and lives on to fight another day. Of course, this does pose tremendous problems, so I’m hoping for the first scenario or something else like it.

      Of course, we shouldn’t assume that the French fleet, when realized on the board will be too particularly large. My guess would be; 1 battleship, 2 destroyer, and/or 1 cruiser.

      Any thoughts on this?

      I’m thinking the second option there is the simplest and therefore most likely.  Any surviving French fleet will just continue to exist as a French fleet as part of the Allies, just as a UK or Italian fleet would if London or Rome is captured.  Yes, it’ll be kinda annoying to move it separately from the US/UK, but it’ll still be a help and might allow for some can-opener type naval attacks to keep Italy/Germany from destroyer blocking as much.

      Why spain? arent they spent from their own civil war?

      People wise that’s a maybe at best. Resources would be pretty much unaffected though. And from the history that I’ve had, I think that Spain should be a pro-axis neutral (correct me if I’m wrong) b/c the side that the axis supported won the war.

      Plus China had a civil war going at the time too, and their territories get IPC values…

    • RE: AA Gun Question

      You can move an AA gun into any adjacent territory that you control during your non-combat move.  Therefore, you can have more than one in a territory, but yes, only 1 may fire regardless.

      South Africa does not have enough economy to be its own nation in the game.

      Precisely.

      I believe the last valid candidate to become an independent power in the game would be Canada.

      That gives us:
      Major:
      UK
      USA
      USSR
      Germany
      Italy
      Japan
      Minor:
      Canada
      ANZAC
      France
      China
      10 Powers, 2 of which are not autonomous

      I don’t believe Canada and ANZAC will be in the global game leaving us only 8 powers.

      From what has been said about France, it will be controlled by one of the other players, as China is in Pacific; and if we include Canada in the list as a subset of UK with the split income, that gives 7 available player spots.

      BD may be right that ANZAC will be treated the same way in the global game, giving us an even 6 player spots.

    • RE: Railway

      @Razor:

      For the sake of simplicity a Railway Station token similare to the Naval Base and Airbase, that all cost 15 IPC and add one extra move to any who start from this positions, and act under the same SBR-rules, will IMHO be our best solution, man. All the other suggestions will only add more pages to the rulebook and arreta/FAQ, man. New solutions means new confusions.

      I rationalized it by saying its a boardgame and some things are just added to make the game more interesting.  everything is not historical or realistic

      Now that’s a weird way to look at it…  Intriguing…  :-P

    • RE: Is Ireland a separate island?

      @Krieghund:

      I’ve been thinking about this, and it’s really a moot point whether Northern Ireland is a part of United Kingdom or a separate, unnamed territory (and therefore not a game space).  Either way, the game plays in the exact same way.  There are no sea zones which touch Northern Ireland but don’t touch United Kingdom, and the only territory that does so (Eire) is neutral and therefore impassable.  Because of this, it makes no difference to movement of air units or of land units by sea which of these options is in effect.

      Sea Zones 3, 6, & 7 don’t touch Northern Ireland though, isn’t that correct?

      @finnman:

      @The:

      @oztea:

      Banter back and forth in my gaming group is that the Canadian roundels may sybolize a UK special power. The power would be that, if London falls, Canada “becomes” a power. Canada is controled by the UK player and can only collect Canadian IPCs.

      This possibility stems from the fact that sea lion might succeed with a sly German player leading the Kreigsmarine. Considering there will likeley be 3 turns to play with untill the US and Russia become active, a jab at London would change the game irrevicably. Therefore, I susspect, and hope that if this happens the UK continues to fight, colleting some IPCs in an attempt to liberate the home islands

      Thoughts?
      Or am i just crazy kreig….

      I definitely think that Canada and Anzac should fight on. Although maybe not so much Egypt, India, or South Africa.

      I agree fire night, Canada and the anzac were independent while they other were colonies

      Well, South Africa was more than just a colony, but they’re much more isolated and even less useful in a more independent state for gameplay than ANZAC or even Canada are/would be.

      me and my friends have been talking bout this for awhile
      i say they cost 5 ipcs and are destroyed if that territory is captured

      Now that might make some sense, but don’t you know that nothing ever got destroyed in WWII except for armies?  :-P

    • RE: Power Groupings - Global Game

      @oztea:

      So UK gets anzac…obviously
      US gets China…semi-obviously
      Russia “could” roll for france, the 3 turns that it exists that is…just to give that player something to do while he is neutral

      Well, that would be the traditional “obvious” way, but that’s the entire point of this thread: there are other ways to split it and what would be the pros and cons of splitting it differently?

    • RE: Why are there Canadian roundels? A new rule perhaps?

      @Omega:

      I was merely replying to the comment about Polish Cavalry.

      They were beaten badly. So were most countries. Thing is, no need to bring back the old Nazi propaganda. Its like a joke that isn’t really funny.

      But again, we can all agree that all allied played a part in the victory. Whether one country’s aid was decisive or not, no one can know for sure. Let’s just keep it that way. No need to take all the glory for yourself.

      You’re right, Poland wasn’t attacked first or beaten easily just because they still had cavalry divisions and fought with them, I’m sure other nations still had cavalry divisions as well (whether they fought with them or not).  All the nations in Europe were scrambling to try to face the Axis assault and almost all of them fell easily, and this had a lot to do with simply underestimating or blindly ignoring the Germans.

      I’m not trying to continue Nazi propaganda, I’m of 80% Polish heritage myself.  I was acting with the idea of it being a joke as the Canadian hockey pieces going on in the other thread is a joke.  How funny it is would be a matter of debate, but I was looking at it from the game perspective.

      And zooooma, I completely agree with your further analysis of the UK situation.  The way the game is shaping up here the UK will be the only one of the “major powers” at war at the start of the global game.  France will fall quickly according to Larry, while ANZAC and China aren’t exactly powerhouses and are confined to skirmishing with Japan, so a Sea Lion assault may very well be a possibility before the US and USSR even really have any effect on the game.  Because of this I think it makes perfect sense and is more than fair that the UK player would be able to continue playing with Canada if London were to fall before the US and USSR are able to get involved.

      @Omega:

      You do know the Polish cavalry was made bigger than it was by nazi propaganda?

      Yeah?  I know tanks were a new innovation and all so cavalry wasn’t really as silly as we would think now, but I guess the Germans would need a boost to their morale after running over horsies with tanks.  :cry:

      “Ya, it vas inzane!  Dar vere about a milllion Polaks on der horses.” :lol:

      I’m part-German, part-Polish (mostly Polish as you might guess) by heritage so I reserve the right to make fun of both groups.  :wink:

    • RE: German Strategies

      Yeah, that’s the same opening I prefer for Germany in 1942 also, down to the bomber purchase.  That seems to be a pretty good opening move there, Granada.  I know lots of people do an all land purchase, and I’ve been toying with a AC purchase to protect z5 to move infantry into Russia quicker and keep a token threat on Great Britain if the chance presents itself, but I think it comes down to what Germany does to react to the Allies G2 and on, which is harder to quantify.

    • RE: German Strategies

      @Granada:

      The problem with the opening is that it seems almost 50-50 that one of the critical battles will fail. Sometimes i do not sink the SZ 2 battleship, sometimes i lose two planes SZ13, sometimes the A-E fails and I have also once lost ma battleship SZ 15.

      I lost the battleship to the destroyer in 15 once and it was really annoying :x, however, it has only like a 4% chance of happening so I don’t worry about it too much anyway.
