    • RE: Sealion inevitable?

      @LHoffman:

      @SgtBlitz:

      You can do it, Sealion definitely can be done.  Whether you really want to sink 30 IPCs into an AC, DD, and SUB on G1 and 63 IPCs into 9 transports on G2 is up for debate.  Chances are whatever you build on G3 is going to be needed post-haste to reinforce against an American counter-attack in England (at least 10+inf, so ANOTHER 30 IPCs) on G4 before America’s turn.  Then, also, there’s the matter of keeping your Atlantic fleet with all those vulnerable transports alive for G4 onwards vs. an 84 IPC/turn USA and Gigantic Godzilla Russia.  So, if you REALLY want to take England, you can, but be prepared to learn Russian fairly soon as there’s not much financial incentive for taking London past KOing the European English out of the game for a few turns and surrendering on G5.  Or if you’re feeling really anti-British that day :mrgreen:.

      The only positive side-benefit of throwing so many IPCs at England is that Italy and Japan should have a field day on the rest of the board.  If they can come to Germany’s rescue in time Sealion might be more practical, but that’s a BIG if.

      I take a bit of issue with this plan. It seems to me that if you wanted to do a successful Sealion, it would have to be ASAP… meaning G2… NOT G3. If you wait till G3, that is all the more units Britain can buy. Unless you plan attacking England on G1 with the Luftwaffe. Unfortunately, this is sucidal for your aircraft without land unit support.

      By G3/R3 Russia will be Godzilla sized… and they are going to need Japan to come bail them out somehow.

      One thing I am curious about… why do you need to buy a DD and a SUB on G1? To me such units seem useless, especially in this situation. Why not buy more infantry or transports for G2/G3 attack? And by the time G4 rolls around, Germany should have more important things to deal with than reinforcing England; unless the Japs and Italians start bringing the war to the USSR… but even then…

      How would you go about a G2 Sealion?  With a starting IPC of 30, I just don’t see it

      in global if UK is taken over

      1. does germany take UK (europe’s) income?
      2. does India take in any UK (europe) remaining territory for IPC collection on its next turn?

    • RE: Japan-Soviet Non-Aggression-Pact

      from what I remember

      Japan can send

      4 bombers, 11 fighters, 8 tactical bombers, 3 artillery, 5 infantry and 1 mechanized infantry.  that’s if japan decides to send all that it can to an amur stack of 18 infantry and maybe 1 fighter.  add 1 battleship and 2 cruiser for bombardment, the first round hit at average would be 17.7 hits vs Russia’s 6.7 hits.

    • RE: Japan-Soviet Non-Aggression-Pact

      As Japan I would attack Russia for a few reasons:

      1. J1 attack on UK, ANZAC, and USA will hurt other Axis in Global so Japan shouldn’t attack on J1 or even J2 (depending on situation).  Other than China and French Indo China, Japan needs other sources of IPC and that would be Russia.

      2. by going on the offensive against Russia, Japan can bring to bear the full force of their airforce and even navy.  even facing a stack of 18 infantry and maybe one fighter, japan can destroy this force with about 10 land units and most of their planes.

      3. by eliminating this stack (or two smaller stacks), Russia will be empty in the east and Japan can then turn most of their forces south and reposition for a J3 attack.

    • RE: G1

      agreed with Carrier and placement inside Baltic.  Even if Germany destroys most of UK Navy on G1, if Germany places their concentrated navy in SZ 112 then UK has a really good chance of wiping out Germany’s navy on UK1

      by leaving the BB and D in SZ 110, England can destroy your 1BB, 1C, 1D, 1S with 1BB 110, 1D 110, 3F UK, 1TB 91, 1D 91, 1AC 91, and maybe another 1D 109 if it survived.

      As Germany what would you buy on G1, and how would you attack the UK navy and France?

      For UK Navy what would you send to attack the units in SZ 112, 110, 111 109?  What would you send to attack France?  What would you send to attack Normandy? If you buy naval units, which SZ would you place them?

    • RE: Political Situation Question…

      Another political situation question for global

      “Japan. At war with China. Movement of Allied forces into China is an act of war against Japan. May declare war on UK, ANZAC, USA, France, or the Soviet Union per the normal rules. Declaration of war against either the UK or ANZAC immediately results in a state of war with both. Being at war with France, the Soviet Union, or USA are all mutually exclusive meaning being at war with one of these does not affect relations with the other two. Japan may only attack Dutch territories if at war with UK and ANZAC.”

      So unlike Pacific, if Japan attacks UK/ANZAC, they are still not at war with USA?

    • Political Situation Question…

      Soviet Union. Not at war. May not declare war on an Axis power in Europe until turn four unless an Axis power declares war first. May declare war on Japan (the rule book indicates the game setting is before the non-agression pact, which was signed in 1941). When not at war with Japan, may not move units into China.

      If Japan declares war on J1 or J2, does this mean Soviet Union is at war with Germany and Italy? Meaning Germany no longer gets the +5 IPC for not being in war with the Soviet Union NO and Soviet Union gets the +5 IPC for being at war with Germany or Italy

    • RE: J1 Attack on ANZAC navy

      By attacking ANZAC’s DD and TT in SZ 62 with 1 BB from Truk, and attacking the SUB in SZ 47 with 1 DD and 1 FIG, it removes 21 IPC from ANZAC by sacrificing 1 BB which costs 20 IPC.  This would set back ANZAC for about 3 rounds.

      If US sends 1 BOM from Hawaii to attack Japan’s BB at SZ 62, that’s another 12 IPC, which would be a great trade off for Japan.  Then ANZAC has to send in his 4 FIGs and would be another possible 10 IPC.

    • RE: Does J1 Attack "Break" the games?

      @Hobbes:

      @hewhoisnickel:

      I have a few thoughts to share on the subject of the J1 attack.

      First off, I have never noticed anyone mention a J1 attack on Hawaii. Is there something in the errata that prevents this? In my most recent game, I, as Japan, took Hawaii and the Philippines first turn, and they were unable to take it back US1. Here’s how:
      -Fleet in Carolines + SZ19 head over to Philippines
      -Fleet in SZ6 all head to Hawaii and take it
      -On US1 the attacking fleet have a roughly 50/50 chance of taking Hawaii back, and they lost

      A J1 attack like you described on Hawaii (assuming the tactical bomber scrambles to prevent the BBs + CA from firing) has a chance of success of 37%, defenders will survive 54%). If you lose, the US + ANZAC can land all their planes there, to try to prevent J from taking Hawaii on J2. Unless J takes Hawaii and its naval base the IJN fleet has reduced  mobility and meanwhile transports send to Hawaii are not being used on the DEI or in China.

      It is a major gamble for Japan. If it works then the US will be out of E. Pacific. If it doesn’t, then Japan just suffered a setback.

      For Japan to invade Hawaii on J1, they would need to bring all three transports with 1 armor, 1 artillery and 3 infantry for a better chance of success.  5 units hitting at 1.5 vs 4 units hitting at 1.5 for the US (assuming the tactical bomber scrambles to prevent shore bombardment).  Japan comes out with a very slight advantage.
