      @Flying:

      I don’t think KIF is that great. Germany has Italys back. The USA is far away and will be exposed if it sends it’s navy into the Med. The UK also has to get into the Med to threaten Italy. Germany’s planes will be a huge deterent. Like you say Russia is the only real threat to Italy and germany is right there. I say the game should be very balanced.

      The only thing that concerns me is the fact that Germany must defend 2 coastal territories (France, Northwestern Europe) against the DDay invasion. In Revised you could stockpile enough units in WEurope to deter the DDAY invasion for at least 3-4 turns(which was perfectly historical). Now you will be dividing your units in half to deter DDay between the 2 territories. You could probably invade 1 territory with England on turn 2 if England buys correctly on Turn 1. Thoughts?

      Agreed about D-Day invasion, which makes my point about Russia pulling a potential KIF even more deadly to the Germans. They would have too many places to fight and not enough time to do it in.

    • RE: Poll Question about Anniversary Edition

      @Rakeman:

      @Craig:

      @Rakeman:

      Depends on reviews… A&A Revised is long enough for my taste, adding a new nation and larger map may slow it down, if that is the case I will probably just play Revised with any Anniversary Edition rules that can be applied  :-D

      I have never understood the “it takes too long to play” argument.

      You either allot enough time to play, you continue the game in the next session, or the game just ends at the end of the current session.

      There is just no way this kind of game is going to consistently end in two-three hours.

      Craig

      Allot enough time to play:  This is what I go for.  Usually a good 6 hours, not including setup.

      Next session is what I go for when the games last especially long, but there are problems with this (namely, the board takes up a lot of space)

      Game ends early?  No way!   :-P

      Obviously no game like this will end in a couple hours (that’s what I own Risk 2210 for!) but some people simply don’t want to spend 14 hours on a board game.  For me, a 6 hour session or two 4 hour sessions is about the max I would spend on a single game… not including setup of course.

      That’s why we play… we LIKE THIS BOARD GAME!

      World War III!!!

      Let’s just all conquer each other , and see our economies prosper again!!!   :-D :mrgreen:

      (Isn’t this a Karl Marx theory btw  :-P….)

      That is awesome… now the real question is who wins WWIII? I’m betting on the US winning.
      (What if they made a board game of WW3? Would’nt that be interesting?)

      Who would be the major players?

      US, UK, Germany, Isreal VS. Russia, China, N. Korea

      Plus you would have neutral states.  Oh and maybe this could be a three way war. So it would be: US, UK, Germany, Isreal, India VS.  Russia, China, N. Korea VS. Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq.

      That would be awesome.

      US, UK, Israel, E. European Block States (you know like Romania, etc) and Turkey against Canada, W. European Block States (like Germany, France, etc), China, Middle Eastern States (like Iran, Syria) and North Korea.  Just as a guideline I’d think.

      Some are questionable, of course.  Like would Iraq side with America or would Mexico side with America?  Also, would Germany side with England or with Russia?  Would Russia even play?  or would Russia sit it out in hopes of killing off the victors afterwards?

      If we are going for realism, Russia would definitely be on whatever side China and Iran are.  Russia promised Iran that it would help defend against American or Israeli aggression, plus as Georgia shows, Russia has no problem pumping out military to fight.  China and Russia have friendly ties on the “enemy of my enemy is my friend” basis (America/israel being that enemy).  I think your team vs. team scenario is most realistic, adding Russia to China’s team.  Iraq would most likely be a coin toss… they could go either way depending on if the resistance to US is large enough.  Mexico would side with America.  No way would they dare oppose the US, unless they desire to be crushed  :wink: Of course, it is more likely they would avoid war…

    • RE: Think K[G/J/I]F is over?

      The K[G/J/I]F strategies are not over. In fact, Russia should be motivated to pull a KIF strategy, and here’s why:
      1. The Russians can divert German forces into southern europe, and open a two front war with the Germans (Eastern and Southern)
      2. They get ANOTHER IC and 8 more IPC’s (Potential game-breaker)
      3. It allows a more potentially successful D-Day invasion, since Germany will try to free its ally and prevent invasion at two fronts.
      This could backfire on the Russians, if Germany pushes aggressively into Russia and captures one of Russia’s victory cities.
      Any thoughts on this?

      I like the Strategic Bombing Rule Larry made for the Anniversary. It makes the bombing much more realistic than before. Do you lose IPC’s AND lose production at your factory or just the second option?

      First turn openings are restricted to few options. However this not means that Classic or Revised are scripted. Here we have TWO setup and then two set of opening moves. I think this is more better.

      I agree wholeheartly. This will make the game more interesting and unpredictable to be certain.

      @Crazy:

      :-o
        Ok, here is a new strategy for the Allies;
          But not new really, the Allies did it in WWII, (my dad told me, he was there. B-17 belly gunner).
      Anyway, I see ( as they did) Great Britton is an unsinkable AC for bombers! So I buy a bomber for UK every round as well as one for the USA. And strat bomb the Nazi bastards to Hell. Sure I will be slowed up building my invaion fleets, but there will be far fewer troops to deal with when I do get there. PLUS, there will be less for the Germans to throw at the Soviet scum. Er, I mean our Dear Allies the Russian people.
      Then when Germany falls, Oh ya, Japan is going to rue the day and the night too.
        Now this is with no tech. But if tech is on, spend 10 IPC a turn until you get the dreaded "heavy bombers", this will end Germanys pain all  the sooner.
      Still, I reccomend getting the Germans out of Africa, and putting some sort of a threat for the Japanese to stay honest about in the Pacific, but I’ll let you figure out just how to accomplish that, geese, want me to do everything for ya?
        Crazy Ivan :roll:

      Mankinds greatest achievements are usually a direct result of War. Too bad huh?

      Amen to that. Bomb the Germans into submission with bombing raids. That will make the Germans in a tight bind with little IPC’s to defend against D-Day. It may be costly to bomb, but it is worth it.

    • RE: What should Japan do in a KJF game?

      What’s really the point of buying an IC in the islands? Sure it’s safe from attack, but here’s the problems of an island build:
      1. It is too far away from the action, and by the time the units built were viable, japan may have fallen already.
      2. You only can place 1 unit on that place. If you’re Japan, you need somewhere where you can mobilize more units at one time.
      3. Japan needs to solidify a foothold on Asia so it can have an effective income base if and when the KJF ploys are utilized. Having an IC on the mainland (Manchuria or Kwangtung) makes a Japanese defense more viable against UK and USSR attacks.
