    • RE: Gun Control

      F alk and Crypt:

Crypt I find that story about your couisin extremely interesting.
Would you mind (if it isn’t too personal) posting more about it?
Maybe send a private message? I DESPISE intolerance such
as that you are describing and am very interested in what you
can relate -again only if you are comfortable describing the situation.
-As far as Guns, well Some of the items you mentioned are already
in place. In Florida when I purchase a firearm the sherrif’s office is notified
immediately. Even when purchasing a hunting arm I am obligated to go thru the same background check procedures as someone purchasing
an “assault weapon”. In order to hunt I have to pay a fee to the
County. In NY where I am from originally, I would have to obtain many different licences to hunt. For example, Deer season lasts from this weekend in October to that weekend in November. I am required to take
a “Deer Hunting” Class put on by the State of NY-which is mostly safety training. In order to hunt small game I am obligated to pay another fee.
have to obtain a different License, but no class is required. So from my experience I’d have to say that the Government is really involved.
I am also a law abiding citizen. As Has been noted very well by others most gun crimminals rarely go thru 1% of the trouble I go thru to hunt
down here and Florida is a right to carry state! I think maybe you can understand why RESPONSIBLE, LAW ABIDING folks get a little
twisted up when others want to come along and make more regulations.

F alk- I would think that as a gun control advocate you would be
delighted by the search for WMD. It (quite literally) is the greatest expression of “Gun Control” ever. My point was a person who is law abiding IMHO, has the right to own an assault weapon if he wants to.
and as a Law Abiding decent person his business is his own.
A decent person has the right to collect whatever the hell he wants in my book as long as that stuff isn’t a threat to me and mine-then a man’s right to be master of his house is absolute. You’ll counter, no doubt, with the example “well what if your neighbor deals child pornography, or drugs etc.” Well, Those items are against the Law to begin with, so my neighbor wouldn’t be so law abiding, would he.

There is no moral equivalency between the Iraqi operation and gun
control in the US. Saddam was a Hilter clone and emonstrated a
massive ammount of indifference toward the mandates of the United Nations and now he doesn’t run things anymore….

      Thank God!

    • RE: Gun Control

Look there is going to be gun control in the US. Like it or not.
It’s politically unfeasible to roll back any gun control legislation such as the Assault Weapons ban. (When that ban was due to expire this Summer
Pres. Bush extended it.) As a sportsman I can tell you that a Military caliber isn’t really that advantageous when hunting deer. Also I don’t need to fire a magazine of 30 rounds at an animal i’m intending to eat.
In short I don’t keep assault weapons because they don’t suit my purpose.
I don’t think it is wrong for people to want to own one.
With all due respect to F alk, people motives for firearms ownbership are their own and none of my business.

I get aggravated with people who have (in their mind) a picture of
a “typical gun owner” and start recklessly throwing lables around.

I find it ironic that folks who label THEMSELVES “Pro-Choice”
seem to have a hard time accepting the choices that others make.

Yes I am a Christian. I have not advocated violence on this thread. I disagree with a set of laws that exist in the local, state and federal levels
with regard to the ownership of firearms. So now according to F alk and crypt I’m a conservative right -wing -gun -toting -anti -choice -fanatic?

You are starting to bore me!

      Jake-
You are entitled to your opinion certainly. I’d like to point out that
The President of the US has always been the Commander in Chief of the Military. IMHO it would be pointless to change that.

Reveiw history and you will see that those who advocated gun(weapon)
control were typically those in power.

The formula is very simple: I can’t control you
if you have a means to defend yourself.

(In Europe all anyone had to do was run to the Lord’s Manor.)

In America People are for gun control because of the violence they
      see (and experience) every day.

Criminals will find ways to get guns, be it here, Europe or Australlia!

What folks ought to want to eradicate is not guns, but crime.
And criminals should be treated as crimminals, not “locked up
      misunderstood victims”!

Someone here has the tag “Gun control is HITTING your target”
      I say amen!

      These posts must remain civilian.

Pehaps your critique was meant in the spirit that Pres. Bush and
      Sec. Rumsfeld weren’t military folk.

      Both were pilots:
Pres. Bush was an Airforce Nat. Guard Pilot during the
      Vietnam Era.

Sec. Rumsfeld was a Naval Aviator in the Late 50’0s.

Florida-All are correct but there is no state taxes. Schools suck, but my oldest goes to private school.
I’m moving the family back to NY soon anyway- more family back home!

As far as Cuba Anexxing Florida-

I’d bet we are better armed than Fidel’s P.L.A.!!!

    • RE: Yet another reason . . .

Back on topic… A recent poll indicates a majority of Iraqi’s feel life is much better after Saddam than before. And- I’d like to point out to the cynics that the 2 biggest messes the US cleaned up are Germany and Japan. In both cases it was years before either had a democratic government.

The question SHOULD be why is Europe wanting to RUSH this along?
What is their interest in Iraq having it’s own government in 6 months?
Why are they making Iraqi soverignty a priority BEFORE they will help?

    • RE: Yet another reason . . .

GG- Definitely agree with you on Stalin, Alas- the enemy of my enemy is my friend! Remeber that the alliance With uncle Joe was one of
convenience. The V stood for Vengeance. The point I was trying to make was the Germans fired them indiscriminately at London, during all times of the day to get revenge on the British. There was no military justification for it. To say that German cities were bombed for no reason
since the Germans were on the verge of surrender is a false argument.
Dresden was bombed n February (13-14) 1945. The War ended on 8th May. In the long run it seems the the stategy was wrong because it
tended to stiffen morale as opposed to weakening it. I know way off topic!

    • RE: Yet another reason . . .

GG- I am quite familiar with WW1 history and its aftermath and The Versailles Treaty. I don’t see what that has to do with ww2 War Crimes.
I don’t think you want anyone to interpret your statement to mean
“The Germans were treated badly after ww1 so anything that happened
in WW2 is justified”. Since you brought up the Versailles Treaty:
America did not sign it, because of the "War Guilt " part of the treaty.
So I don’t think you can draw a clear path from Versailles to US war Crimes. Speaking of terror bombing of London- What was up with V- weapons raining down on London? What does the “V” stand for?
      Who Fired the V weapons?

    • RE: Yet another reason . . .

F’alk- Are you seriously comparing Allied Bombing raids to
Nazi War Crimes? Please. Very simple:
The Germans started WW2. If they did not want to be bombed
they should have killed Hitler and ended the war.

There is absolutely no moral equivalence.

Jefe - you are right about that. For the most most part MSNBC is DREADFUL,
but their war coverage was pretty good. David Bloom’s reports were otstanding it was a shame he died. In general
Fox news is the absolute bes news on Cable.
Fox news.com is excellent too , but I like News max a little better!

    • RE: Read any great books lately??

      Berard Cornwell-

The man is a genius- Sharpe’s series, Starbuck, Archer’s tale etc.

Jefe- if you are going to read AnnCoulter’s recent book then I
Highly reccomend Sam Tannenhaus’ biography Whittaker Chambers.

I read TR Frehenbach’s This Kind of War (it’s about the Korean War)
every June for the last 4 years.

I also reccomend, Stanley Karnow’s, Vietnam.

Recently, I’m reading Ernest R. May’s, Strange Victory. It’s about how the French lost against The Germans in 1940.

      -Joseph Ellis’, Founding Brothers.

-John Earl Haynes & Harvey Klehr’s Venona:
      Decoding Soviet Espionage in America.

And Reading the Lord of the Rings Books with my oldest.

    • RE: Israeli Editorial: Kill Arafat; End the Double Standard

      Arafat is not an Islamisist.
He is a terrorist. I sincerely doubt he cares much for Islam.
Arafat, like Bin Laden, HIDES behind religon. Arafat HIDES behind
civilians that HE has put in harms way by recruiting people with the
promise of Martyrdom. He USES Islam to further his aims.

      Sorry folks-he has to go.
