      @chris-laf

      Just wondering, why is the US not moving before round 5? If germany attacks all sides all attacks are kinda weak. So they will lose a lot of power as well, They cannot attack france, and Russia and the UK fleet all in turn 1 and have a lot of forces left.
      Also attacking russia round 1 isnt ideal and leaves some weak points.

      Japan 1 is powerfull but it generally leaves some weak poins, not many but he cant expect to roll great everywhere.

      As allies try to hit where you got some advantage, japan is weak if it loses to many inf units in china, so use that to drain him. Also dont leave forces open for easy conquest if he can attack with a lot of airpower then just make sure its only airpower or step back a bit and counter his small infantry stacks.

      UK will have a massive fleet left, or germany has no airforce left, either way both UK and US can move into europe relatively quickly.

      Its just 2 slow, SZ91 is the key because not only does it threathen more and forces germany and italy to divert forces but its also quicker.

      If you need naval forces to protect that means that germany needs air and naval forces to attack. Those forces are not available for russia so you are helping by proxy.
      Every sub germany buys is 1 less tank going to russia.

      You dont need that much forces to protect your fleet SZ91.
      If you add 1 carrier + destroyer round 1 you are already pretty well of with the starting cruiser. Unless germany invest into naval units it can attack with 2 bombers.
      If they buy bombers just built and airbase @gibraltar and put 3 fighters there.
      5 fighters will deter most attacks. Uk can block a naval attack with a destroyer in SZ110

      @dazedwit

      Just because you for some reason have insane dice, or you dont know how to play the allies does not make the strat that good.

      Just play it out using low luck so you get a fair estimate of how the battles will go, it does elimitate the luck factor a lot.

      And like i posted, you are verry likely not having any fleet at all round 2 with both germany and italy so how will you do sea lion without a fleet? Naked transports will be easy pickings.

      BTW if you use 4 color dies, which is really smart you could get the 5mm dice so you can throw about 120 in 1 go. Just in case you need to handle big combat.

      @Black

      Since you kinda destroyed japan you can focus all of the US income on germany for a few turns. That would solve the issue with not having a fleet. And with a few carriers you can easy defend your transports.
      With 70ipcs spend on the atlantic you can easy deadzone SZ91 this round and basically go there next round and take gibraltar. He currently only has 3 transports so it will take a while before he is in any position to sea lion.

      Combine it with a few subs and a destroyer or 2 and you can deadzone SZ 91, and if you take gibraltar then he can only attack with air.

      Japan can be contained with UK-Pac + Anzac by the looks of it, just start constricting japan and start helping china, with the bulk of the fleet destroyed you should have the money islands for UK-pac.
      Use anzac to get subs all over the place and remove even more Japan income.

      UK-Pac can be used to help contest the Middle east.

      Will do. However, I think he still holds out hope of taking Russia from the “backside” (using Japanese forces). Despite losing Tokyo, he has a ton of air and land in Asia.

      He appears poised to make a last ditch effort at taking back Japan with his remaining ships off Siberia…if he fails, he will probably concede.

      Even if he takes russia, if you can trade tokyo for another round ( even if he takes it, if you can take it back ) then he is in a world of hurt.
      At least you got an objective for the anzac, liberating china :P

      And he was off a few rounds with germany so if you just consolidate in moscow with all the US going after germany even if he takes moscow where is he going once he lost afrika.

      But it does sound like you 2 had a good fun game where things went weird a few times.

      Could be a way to deal with a romanian factory but it is depending a lot om germany buying the factory in the first place.
      Though a baltic fleet might also be at risk from bombers.

      Cant germany put fighters in romania to intercept the bombers?

      It does take away 4 inf for every bomber.
      Or it removes 3 art each bomber which does remove quite a lot of combat power.

      IMO rolling out battles is not really a good way to prove a strat, Its better to start calculating odds or using stuff like trilpeA battle calculator if the fight is to large.
      For videos maby use low luck, it removes a lot of the dice rolling and makes a faster video. And it gives a verry good average result of combat.

      Sometimes dice get funny that doesnt mean a strat is good or bad, germany can roll snake eyes on the AA defence of the major. That would not mean bombing is never a good idea.

      Also trying strats against yourself does often lead to tunnel vision. The enemy behaves like you expect because its you. When i first started playing before i got on the forum we missed out a lot of powerfull ideas and strats just because me and my friend never thought about that option.

      @dazedwit said in Is killing Sea Zone 110 an absolute must?:

      @Charles-de-Gaulle

      My newest strategy I’m testing out - sending only two subs to 110 to eliminate the scramble. Usually the two take off the French cruiser. If the two remaining boats stay in 110, they git hit by 3 subs on turn two - again no scramble. which usually finishes them off. If the boats hightail it out to either med or Canada, two subs there to hit them.

      2 subs vs 2 cruisers + 1 BB. So you hit once damaging the BB they hit 1 or 2 times and kill the subs.

      Problem solved for the allies. You just threw 2 subs away for nothing.
      There is no reason why the allies would take the first hit on the cruiser iso taking a hit on the BB.

      Sure you can plan on hitting 2 times which is a 1/9 chance.

      And what makes you think i dont just kill those remaining 2 subs ( if they even live ) with a destroyer.
      And why would anyone leave 2 ships in 110, its a terrible spot for a small fleet to be.

      I’m sorry, why are you ignoring his PA’s on me. He’s been a complete dick to me in multiple threads. I’ve ignored him up until now. I’m just trying to have fun convos about the game we all love.

      I would be shocked if @AndrewAAGamer had actually made a personal attack against you. You, on the other hand, have shown a deep immaturity and lack of experience in the game.

      Disagreeing with your ideas is not disrespect. If he is disagreeing with your ideas, it’s because of the depth of his experience has taught him that your ideas are probably based on what works against inexperienced players.

      And don’t worry, since he didn’t accept my challenge to a game and acted like a dick again (and why I finally hit him back) I finally blocked him. He and one other guy seem to be following me around and acting like dicks for no reason. I’ve ignored them both until today. I’m surprised the other guy hasn’t shown up yet.

      I have no idea why he would accept your challenge. Inevitably he would defeat you and then you would almost certainly insist that you got “diced”. However, so far the only person I’ve seen acting disrespectably is you.

      If you want to play a top tier player, improve your play. A good start to that would be listening to their opinions.

      Marsh

      Yeah, his last post to me was that I was playing against a two year old. Yeah, that’s not a pa.

      Don’t bother replying. I was having a nice convo with you until now.

      And I’m up for a game with anyone. I have complete confidence in my abilities in this game.

      Not sure what timezone you are in but im up for a game, would be fun to see how your strats work out when not playing against yourself.

      Playing against yourself always leads to gaps because you cannot think of something you didnt think of.

      I will give it a shot. I googled AA G40 online and it brought me to a Steam website and I think asking for money?

      Do you have a link so I can check it out and get a feeling for it before we play>

      O dont use that crappy steam thing.

      Google TripleA : https://triplea-game.org/

      There you can download a client just need to get the maps but thats easy.

      Its free or charge and allows all kinda of versions and it allows for forum play on here. So it can automatically upload your move writen and with a savegame to download for the other player.

      Think there is even a guilde on this forum as well.

      @Hansolo88 said in Pacific so small:

      I mostly just find it frustrating that US can’t move ships from E Coast to UK in 1 turn even with Naval Base bonus. It discourages historical outcomes, and encourages ahistorical outcomes (US building up forces on the tiny rock of Gibraltar instead). It’s one of my biggest complaints with the 1940 board, alongside Northern Italy being able to nonsensically access Central France.

      US can chose to go from canada to the UK in 1 turn.
      It also is unclear what a turn is really because some moves especially air are really weird.

      Yea building up in north afrika or gibraltar is a bit wierd but that is because gibraltar is a lot closer to italy then it should be. And still close to norway and normandy.

      It the same thing with the pacific where you can ignore the island mostly. A bomber from midway can get to nearly everywhere in the pacific. In reality it was a lot harder to bomb japan.

      Its a lot easier, fly from midway and land in russia. Not ideal but its a lot easier then the doolittleraid where they had to travel halfway between midway and japan just to fly the bombers.

      @dazedwit

      Yea you can even use that to move your axis ships through the gibraltar straight without actually owning gibraltar. Just have 1 sub attack from the other side and you can retreat through a seazone you cannot even sail through.

      Its just one of these rules that you can abbuse because they simplified the combat part. It would be difficult to keep track of what comes from where.

    • RE: When going for Moscow as Germany...

      @dazedwit

      As germany you dont have the option really, if russia plays defensive and stacks you either have 1 big stack or get taken out piece by piece.

      If they really stack leninggrad hard you just go there first with your stack and take out the bigger part of their army.

      1 big stack cannot really be held by russia, so soon you birdcage them and then you reinforce from 3 factories closeby where russia has only income for a few infantry.

      @shadowhawk just for the sake of clarity,what is “birdcaging”?

      Its where you pushed russia so far that they are really trapped in moscow. They cant attack you realistically and moving small forces out of moscow to take back some zones around it would only weaken them to much.

      So they are trapped like a bird in a cage.

      @SuperbattleshipYamato said in Winning the game: most common victory scenario:

      @The-Captain

      Well, I don’t play with surrender in my games, so that usually doesn’t happen.

      I’d say that most games I play are decided by economic advantages before victory city requirements are reached. Very rarely do I see bold captures of victory cities by a losing side resulting in a narrow victory.

      The most common victories are:

      1. German capture of Moscow, Leningrad, and Stalingrad, alongside either an Italian capture of Egypt early in the game or a later drive toward the Middle East and Africa.
      2. Japanese capture of Calcutta, Hong Kong, Manilla, Shanghai, (obviously Tokyo), and either Sydney or Honolulu (the latter is more likely).

      What would be painfull if the axis are not winning. Because allies win by the book takes ages to really get to. And once you killed the JIN and stopped barbarossa you can take your time and build up. Axis player would be forced to just sit there and wait for the inevitable defeat.

      @shadowhawk said in In how many hours can you complete a G40 game:

      4 color dice. So each combat round can be rolled in 1 go.

      I have never seen this actually speed up any game. Usually the person doing it is a proponent of the method, trying to convert others, and wastes an enormous amount of time trying to perform conversions.

      Also, they take a lot of time counting out the appropriate dice of each color.

      Finally, they insist on sorting them in the box after the roll is complete.

      Yeah, never seen this actually make a difference.

      Marsh

      Funny, because you can sort them ahead of time, also once you got the dice you just remove the loses. So the defender throws 4 hits, you just remove 4 inf dice and throw again. At the end of combat what you have left corresponds to the dice in your hands.
      Unless the combat is over 30 units with the same hit factor you only select the dice once.

      We dont roll on the board but in the cover and that is normally situated on 1 side of the table ( i got an enlarged map of 2x1meters.

      What conversions?

      Once you get used to it its a lot faster at least that is my experience.

      Just having 6 dice takes ages.

      Thanks! I’m not much interested in house rules or online play. But I’ve been getting lots of A&A in! We have finished six games this year and are on number seven.

      You can use TripleA also to play on a PC as like oldschool multiplayer.
      If it takes multiple days but you cannot keep the board setup that long this is an option.

      With oldschool multiplayer i mean both sitting behind the PC/TV in the livingroom and do your turns there. So still your group is in the same room you only replaced the board and dice with something on the TV/PC.
