We have D-Day and the Bulge. What happened to Cobra and Goodwood? Seems there is a hole that needs plugging and a use for all the A&A Europe assets.
Transports would be usable for re=enforcement from England while there would be room for a new piece (air transport or rail transport). The one off games tended to have a unique piece (blockhouses for D-day, Motor T for Bulge, and US carrier aircraft for Guadalcanal).

I would love an Iwo Jima game as there were lots of assets used by both sides but it would only be US vs Japan. You could even have what if scenarios involving a major sea battle as at Guadalcanal to add some replay factors.

    • RE: FLYER FOR 2ND EDITION E40 AND P40 IS OUT- SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2012

WOTC saw the prices OOP games were going for and figured that if the lemmings were willing to pay that much for them, there was a market for the new games. We are lucky that they decided to use some new tooling instead of just rehashing old pieces. Hope you all saved some IPCs to buy these new games for the next round.

I must buy these as I am compelled to now own every A&A game ever made.

      @CWO:

      @sgtwiltan:

I am scratch building victory cities or modifying Risk pieces as well as using them as minor ICs.

The city pieces in the new edition of Fortress America might be useful to you:

$60 just for those pieces is too much. I can build more for far cheaper and can even customize for each city.
Scratch building those are quite easy.

At least it made sense when Tac Bombers became part of the game.

I was using 1/700 planes for the 1984 version and I think they are great for the Guadalcanal game since you get more sculpts and the smaller planes look better on the carriers.

All I need to complete my A&A collection is the D-Day game. I’m not paying the premium for the Anniversary edition when Global is so much more fulfilling. FMGs M13-40s are way better than the A&A sculpts for that game.
I am scratch building victory cities or modifying Risk pieces as well as using them as minor ICs.

Hopefully I’ll actually get to play a game instead of just putting my grubby mitts on the plethora of pieces.

Germany’s 88 was also a late war Flak in the early games. Brits should get their 25 pounder and the german fighter was the Me-109 till the 1941 game which has the FW 190. I really hated that the German inventory for land since it was mostly all late war sculpts. Luckily I’d been modifying or scratchbuilding period appropriate tanks before the new sculpts after the GameMaster version.
I built Pz IIIs for Germany, Shermans for US, Crusaders for UK, T34s for Russia and type 97 Shinhoto Chi Has for Japan. I am currently accurizing most of the OOB pieces to resemble as close as possible, the pieces they are to represent.
I still don’t like the Japanese sculpt for the Ha Go since the upper part is a type 97 Shinhoto while the running gear is for the Ha Go. I am going to modify them into Chi Ha by changing the running gear.
      Look at the comparison
      ShinHoto Chi Ha track-link.net/gallery/5962
      Ha Go track-link.net/gallery/1886

After all this, I’ll have a fully fleshed out and accurate A&A collection of games.
1941 for quickies with pieces from the old version 1942, Global with pieces from all A&A versions and HBG modified Pz IIIs and the new 1942 version.

      Ship the damn things already!!!
All this waiting is slowing time down or driving my heart rate up!!!

    • RE: Unit Sculpts Identified by Krieghund

Russia was the only major power without a proper Carrier. This version seems to round out quite a few holes in all the A&A games by giving Russia a carrier and the UK it’s own transport. They could have also given the UK their own destroyer as well but we’ll be getting those in the 1942 edition along with their own sub and 25 pounder.

All this is quite exciting especially for us lemmings for our Global games. Of course WOTC is getting more product moved but unless you happen to be a hard core collector the pieces are playable as they are per game. Us lemmings however have the option of an uber realistic set of units for at least one of our games.

Good times for me compared to the days where I was modifying and scratch building units more appropriate to each country when there was a drought of any A&A development for 2 decades.

My biggest beef right now is that the destroyers are scaled too big and so I must scratch build them smaller and possibly convert the destroyers into some light cruisers. Not a biggie and more fun for me. It’s a good time to be an A&A affecionado.

Next steps for global would probably be French and Italian unit updates to dig more IPCs out of our pockets. Can’t wait.

WOTC should also probably license the Japanese Chi-ha and UK universal carrier from the Singapore 1942 game to offset tooling up new molds thus benefiting themselves and the Singapore 1942 makers.

    • RE: Just How Old Are We Axis and Allies Players?

I played my first game in 1987 as a young boot Marine on Camp LeJeune NC.
I remember it well since the board got turned over due to the submarine rule…Hahah!!
I haven’t really played much since but it got me into 1/285th scale modelling. I actually scratch built tanks for each faction and started collecting most of the A&A games when the pieces started getting more accurate in their portrayals.
I actually got to serve with the descendants of the Desert Rats during Desert Storm, while ironically using West German military vehicles, all allied together  rather than enemy.
I love the evolution of the pieces and will eventually get to painting them all. However, I’ve been modifying the A&A pieces into more realistic pieces and having more fun doing that than actually playing the game. With the advent of 1941 and the 1942 reprint I plan to have some gaming fun…If I can get the pieces painted.

On a historical note, My maternal grandfather refused to surrender with MacArthurs forces and fought on as a guerrilla. I was in Desert Shield Storm and Calm while my cousin flew AS choppers in the Navy.

    • RE: HBG Japan Supplement Set

Remake the Ha-Go as A&A piece looks like a hybrid Type 97 and is way too gigantic as representative of the actual tank.

    • RE: French Set…need help to finalize set.

H-39s or R35s are most representative of French tanks rather than the antiquated FT-17 which were alloted to secondary units.

    • RE: Next Nation to sculpt at HBG

Since A7A already have the Matilda, Use a crusader for early war tanks to go with the Matilda as those were the most numerous types while early war A-10s or A-13s were the main cruiser tanks. The Mech inf should get the iconic Brit Bren carriers.
