I’ve been scarfing up old 1942 versions as they cost just a tiny bit more than the new 1941.
It is well worth it at the price vs. getting 2 1941 versions due to the number of extra pieces.
They will last you more than a little while unless you have to have the new 1942.
However, getting both 1941 and 1942SE games will give you better flexibility and more parts to play with and gives you a much larger board.
I wouldn’t suggest getting 2 1941 copies unless you are a piece junkie like me.

RE: I think I did the right thing.
Hoorah. Karma comes back to you as you said.
As to melting those horrendous figures, I’m all for it. In fact I’m replacing my A&A infantry with 15mm scale PSC figures
as soon as they make British,Americans and Japanese. :-D -
RE: Next Nation to sculpt at HBG
So, are there any pics of the new german sets?

RE: SgtWilTan's mods and conversions of A&A pieces
I use Model master paints without priming since at this scale the paint buildup quickly blobs out the details.
I prefer spirit based paints since they “eat” into the plastic and adhere better. The only prepaint prep I do is to soft scrub wash in warm soapy water to remove any oils and dust that could cause the paint from sticking. Plain black spray paint from WalMart made for plastics will work great. Don’t stay in one place at all while spraying. Use a linear movement from 8 inches to a foot away. It’s wasteful for single pieces but since I paint in bulk while base coating, one can will last up to 100 or more pieces. Be patient and do one or 2 passes and apply other passes from different angles 15 minutes apart or you will end up with goop. -
RE: SgtWilTan's mods and conversions of A&A pieces
Malf, you know your stuff.
The early panthers are in the final stages of construction and work on the first Tiger Platoon has begun. The second will also be started and will only be slightly different in terms of stowage and turret version. The panthers just need the stowage and smoke dischargers and a week to dry before the first base coat.
The HBG PzIIIs (75 out of 90) are finished…I think. I’m not sure if I want to add the Mantlet vision port covers.
15 ausf. H are still waiting on their turret.10 HBG Pz38t’s are done and base coated but I have removed the turrets and scratchbuilt my own. They look more realistic.
I’m also going to prototype a Type 95 Ha-Go using the 38t Chassis.
I’ll get more pics up soon of my other scratchbuilds which I made for the original MB version of A&A.Thanks for looking all.

RE: Best place to Pre-order 1942 2nd ed
Got mine today from Cool Stuff inc. ordered 2 more 1942s since I like them so much.
I’ve already modded the LeFH 18 with smaller barrels and another with a muzzle brake. I’ve also modded a 25 pounder with smaller barrel and muzzle brake.
I’ve detailed a Tiger. The arty are really nice except for the barrel sizes. Too bad the flak 36 has the antitank shield even though it’s AA.
1941 pieces are a step above the recent pieces. I am looking forward to the Global sets and hope they have also done some rework on some of the sculpts. -
RE: Best place to Pre-order 1942 2nd ed
Went a little nuts.
2 '42s and 4 '41s expected on the 27th.
also got Guadalcanal and the old Pacific just last week.
I will be in A&A heaven or hell considering the number of pieces to be modded and painted.
I love these new pieces though and I can use them for other game systems. :evil:Can’t wait to fondle/play with my new toys!!!
-
RE: 1942 2nd ed Sculpt Identification Tables
Already saw those. I want the other pieces.
Does the 25 pounder have the traversing wheel and the new ships?
Those AA cured my ADD for a day -
RE: 1942 2nd ed Sculpt Identification Tables
Me too. I need to see how much work I need to do before I paint them.
WHERE ARE THE PICS???!!! -
RE: FRANCE and ANZAC COMBAT DICE - HELP us design them!
Hope HBG wasn’t involved with them asses.
I’ve spent hundreds with him and will continue to do so.
I like his stuff and just keeps my ADD barely under control.Jeremy can we at least see some of the new Sculpts
I have 3 of the Italian sets minus 2 m13-40s which was the main reason why I got them.
Good stuff, just hard to get. -
RE: 1942 2nd ed Sculpt Identification Tables
Looks like they hired some military historians or at least consulted some for the new pieces.
My kind of people (My degree is a BA in history with a military focus) as well as being a US Marine and an old war vet.
It’s weird seeing Marines at boardgamegeek playing this in the desert as the A&A box was too bulky to fit in 2 seabags and a pack on top of the MOPP suit and standard combat gear in my time in the desert. Their war though was a lot tougher than mine but living conditions were tougher in mine.
We did play a lot of Chess (believe it or not) as well as Spades. Those luxury items were much easier to carry. Tempers can be raised by rule interpretations from this game and setup anfd breakdown took too much time. Not a good thing when everyone is carrying live rounds and walking around with mags in their rifles all the time. Our body armor at that time wasn’t meant to stop bullets. -
RE: Axis and Allies 1942 2nd edition review coming anytime soon?
Where are the pics? I’m less concerned about the board and such. I just want to see the new pieces.
Desert Fox go to the 2nd Edition rulebook for the PDF of the Map.

RE: Just How Old Are We Axis and Allies Players?
By the way, I’m 44 now. Sorry but I can’t post pics til I hit 20 posts. I’ll see when I do manage to get it high enough.

30 HBG Stuarts. basically refining them
50 US Shermans into M4A1 remanufactured, 76 wet, and M4A3 76 HVSS. So far I only have prototypes
60 USSR T34s into 41,43, and T34-85 versions
16 M13-40 from FMG which I got from HBG (was shorted 2)
15 38T hulls with puma Turrets in a what if build basecoated90+ PzIIIs are built and need basecoating

RE: Historical Board Gaming Russian Set
How many of each?
I need to know so that I can figure out how many I need to pre-order. -
RE: Field Command: Singapore 1942
You can gauge the size of pieces against the infantry. There is a good set of pics at BoardGameGeek.

RE: Next axis and allies game should be?
@CWO:
Whole new genre. Napoleonic or WW1. Maybe even medieval knights would be cool.
Call that last one “Axes and Armour”.
Or Axes and Alloys
