      I don’t have the patience of IL , so i won’t engage in an endless arguing contest with you.

      No, IL doesn’t have patience. In fact, he believes to know everything so he loved to arguing.  :mrgreen:

      The 2 TP purchase is crucial to ensuring that the British cannot forgo turn 1 defenses for a G2 Sealion. It also allows for a G2 Barbossa purchase with the TP’s hitting up the Russian coast should you be in such a position, or better positioning for a G3 assault on Russia.

      Once, in twelve or fifteen games

      About the same for me.

      Ironically though, everytime I have seen a game where France didn’t fall, it’s ended up an Axis Victory anyways.  I wonder if it has to do with the allies overcompensating, and trying to actually hold on to france aswell…

      @deadbunny:

      the USA can build a massive fleet and either take Rome or move into Africa(I have seen both done in a single turn).

      Do you mean building the fleet and taking Rome and Africa in the same turn? I must be misunderstanding this post.

      Well, if I had written it, I think I would have been referring to SZ 92 which is where the US may want to be at the end of turn 4. It can dump troops into both Italy and Egypt. Maybe as a turn to take away victory cities? Otherwise, I’d just go straight for Italy and reinforce it next turn.

      See the thing is it still doesn’t matter Germany is crushed and the game is all but over as Italy falls soon after. Then Japan can be ganged up on no matter how many ipc’s they have.

      I ahve drawn some of the same conclusions and so what I have been trying is push with Italy and push hard to take the Middleeast. If you can get a factory in Iraq and then a factory in Persia you can push out from their. I put almost nothing into my transport fleet which was hardly added to after Taranto happened (Germany went for a G1 Romanian Major which to be honest has proven extremely useful!) The Brits managed to retake Egypt but Italy is still at roughly 25 IPC and has for more forces between Iraq and Persia. Britain is going to need to back up soon or risk losing their forces in Egypt. The other Italian option is push further into Russia. The almost continually have Caucus and are threatening Volgogrod heavily. Germany has the Russians runnings scared from the massive force they moved in with the factory in Romania and has both an army group north and south which outnumbers the Russians allowing the Italians to get away with a little more. For Italy I chose to build up the air force rather than navy and the navy I do have is subs which are blocking Britain’s money in Egypt and also poised with two bombers to push off a Gibraltar or Morocco landing force. I have four subs and two bombers that can hit the Atlantic side of Gibraltar. Germany also has 2 bombers and 5 subs that can hit that same SZ keeping the Allies from landing in North Africa, they are instead landing in French West Africa and bring in reinforcements that way.

      Ok, everyone, I tried out this strategy and ultimately conceded that game.  Here’s the thread if you’re interested:

      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=20754.0

      If you’re going to try this out, make sure Japan tries SOMETHING in S. America J3 to tie up the US for at least a few rounds.  US had like $92 for most of the game, and the Axis dropping the ball in the Atlantic/Med made it WAY too easy for the US to whup up in Europe.  Also, I played Italy like a demented retard, as the Italian BB had some awesome rolling killing TWO separate 95%+ UK attacks, and I also gave up a FREE IC in Egypt TWICE.  Don’t let the True Neutrals distract Italy, especially if you’re lucky enough to have your BB survive UK1!  Take Egypt and build/seize that IC on it!

      Also, don’t throw away the German airforce in the Med trying to help the Italians, build a minor IC in Yugo and build subs or your fleet moved in from Gibraltar; I keep telling myself that every game, and every game I end up with just a few planes on the carrier by G3-4.

      I agree. This “optional tech” rule pretty much means the same playing with it as without. It’s a bad buy. And if you disagree, then fine. But you probable don’t know how to play. Or maybe your just lucky. But for those who want a new system (even better than AA50) I will be coming up with a house rule. I’m developing it right now. Will post it here when finalized.

      Yo!  I just moved the Lubbock, TX area this month to complete my schooling, and I know absolutely NO GAMING GROUPS out there at all.  There were a few friends in Austin, TX that I played AA50 a few times with, but alas, the arrival of Global AA40 coincided with my departure.

      I talked to a few gaming stores (THE few gaming stores that exist in Lubbock) in town and they said there used to be a Wargamers West company out here that supplied the majority of their products until it went belly-up a few years ago.  Are there any people in the area still playing Axis and Allies?  I’d like to host a game of AA40 Global if there are people willing to play.

      With the new complexity (and sheer size and magnitude AND duration) of the new Global setup, it’d probably take a weekend to finish a game, but I’m down with online games too (when that option becomes available).  (I also don’t mind driving around a bit, if its on the weekend, so Dallas and El Paso works for me).  Send me a PM if you’re interested.

      @SgtBlitz:

      @xzorn:

      Once the Japanese have all of China and India and Australia, and the Germans and Italians can attack the US, the game is over anyway. Conquering the US is feasible, but it won’t be that deciding factor that turns the tide. The axis will have already gotten the permanent upper hand.

      Yes, but this scenario ISN’T possible with the Pacific game, as the US has only ONE FRONT to deal with.  There has to be some rule that lets Japan grab as much as she can BEFORE the US enters the war b/c she’ll HAVE to have equal footing for there to be a “fair” game.  Otherwise its just fighting against the dice the whole time.

      No doubt xzorn was talking about the combined game.

      Meh, really, it simply depends on the Axis’ focus on any particular game.  It looks like Russia only gets a crappy +5 NO once it is at war with the Axis, so compared to pissing off the Americans, war with Russia (only) would be a much more palatable option for Japan.  18 land units, while it is quite a lot, would not be expected to be massed together right at the border with Japan, so they could be picked off a bunch at a time, and definitely doable if Japan gets a major industrial complex in Asia (which it probably will in most games).  Plus, Moscow it so far away that sending reinforcements east is probably not Stalin’s top priority, so Japan could hold onto the Russian IPCs for a long time, gaining back whatever the cost was in killing the units over 3-4 rounds.

      Also, it is subterfuge to some extent; forcing the Soviets to respond to threats on their eastern front would pull some attention (and troops) away from the western front, which would help Germany and Italy pull off a successful Sea Lion AND Barbarossa in turn.  Kinda of like not letting your left hand knowing what the right hand is doing.  However, with a Sealion going into action on Round 3 or 4, Japan may be forced to focus entirely on eliminating India so that the UK is incapable of sending reinforcements anywhere else.

      I’m wondering what Italy will be required to take in the Med to stop UK air from reaching England.  Definitely Gibraltar and Malta, and all of the African coast, excepting Egypt maybe.  Italy has its hands full.  Maybe it would be best for Germany to ditch Sealion and just go after the Med early and take what it can get?

      @Chunk:

      I grew up playing Risk, and began AA about five years ago. I have four boards, but play Europe/Pacific 1940 almost exclusively. So far I have shelled out a couple hundred dollars on boards, and spent hundreds of hours at the table.

      Imagine if Larry, Hasbro, or whoever released an electronic copy we could play online.

      I would pay good money to play a clean and legitimate game of Axis and Allies online.

      Welcome to the forum, Chunk.

      Your dreams have already come true:

      We use a software called ‘TripleA’ to play online. Just check out these links:

      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=18278.0
      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=27127.0

      and browse through the “Play Boardgames”-subforum with it’s child boards

      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?board=40.0

      to get an idea about it.

      Don’t hesitate to ask your TripleA related questions in the Software-Subforum.
