    • [Global 1940] Capitol ship targets (priority carrier)

2 hit ship’s are wonderful but just because you have the luxury of using this ability as a free hit we need to tweak this ability just a bit. Here is the tweak.

If you have a battleship and a carrier defending with other surface ship’s when the time comes to choose a hit on a capitol ship the carrier must be chosen before a battleship. Symbolizing carriers as primary targets.

If you had 2 carriers and a battleship you would be able to choose the battle ship as the second target after the carrier who was already chosen. So a carrier must be chosen before a battleship when a capitol ship is to be taken as a hit.

Now before everyone freaks out about losing planes on the attack because loss of carrier there is one more tweak. The player who can’t land on a friendly space does not lose the planes automatically. We can make 2 options they are

      Either…

      1. Planes can return to carrier but can no longer attack or defend until carrier is repaired if carrier is hit again the planes are considered as cargo and go down with ship.

      2. A roll is made for each plane returning to carrier (you guys can discuss the roll) my idea is 50/50 so for each 4 or higher plane can return. But then follows option 1 rules of not being able to attack or defend until carrier is repaired.

I believe this will give players some options rather then just outright not attacking because of fear of losing planes automatically. We understand it’s suppose to be assumed that a damaged carrier is suppose to mean catastrophic damage. But we don’t have to lose 2 squadrons of planes just for sake of realism. At least let there be an option.

BTW these rules have been around since the early 90’s they are part of the Gamers Paradise rule sets. Called World war 2 the expansion ( for use with axis and allies) you Should really look at those rules many of you are incorporating them into your games currently and don’t even know it. I think many of the rules in those expansions fit perfectly into the current game meta you guys are playing. They give a bit of realism without turning the game into an old school hexagonal game that takes a week to play. I gave the rules to young grasshopper he has the files if anyone is interested in them without having to buy them in second hand market. Some of the rules.

      Paratrooper
      Artillery
      German SS
      British commandoS
      Japanese pill boxes
      US marines
Carrier based planes (zeros and hellcats)
      Troop trucks
Full naval rules for subs and destroyers. A stab at battle for atlantic.

    • [Global 1940] Reasons for a cruiser.

Before all the cost changes to units The crusier was the purchase so naval powers could get a lower cost ship that still had a bombard ability without sacrificing too much economy in buying a Battleship. Since the price changes I haven’t seen many games where a crusier is purchased.

So how about we give the players a reason to purchase crusiers. Let’s give the cruiser an ability since all other ships have something added. (First strike, 2 hit, sub finder) why dont we give the crusier an AA ability since historically crusiers had impressive Antiaircraft abilities. We could allow the crusier to roll up to 3 dice max no matter how many crusiers you had in the beginning of naval combat. To account for the impressive Antiair they had. Here are some options

Crusier always has this option (up to 3 dice) as long as there are 3 or more planes in the battle. Hits on a 1 just like AA gun

Crusier only gets this ability when paired with a capitol ship (carrier or battleship) symbolizing greater amount of AA fire from Combine arms

Crusier gets this ability OR normal roll but not both. (Player decides at start of combat. If choosing AA then casualties must be planes. But choosing normal attack allows the player to choose his or her own casualty as normal.)

Looking for some input. I think it would be a slight change and increase a little more strategy for players to want a cruiser. But not overcomplicate the rules we already inflate.

    • Axis n allies global 2nd edition disscussion

So once the main strats came out such as Calcutta Crush and Sealion. Along with Barbarossa. Do the high level players start to migrate to the other game global 1936-1945 because the 1940 global turns into the same game over and over ? Or is it because it is bloated to reflect the actual events so that players feel they have more options to make so the game doesn’t get stale quickly? I was curious because it seemed that after the grasshopper invitational and sirebloods bloodbath tourney. It seemed that a lot of the attention went to the new global 1936. I love the game but to me there is a fine line between finishing a game in a day and having to have a free weekend to Finnish the war.

    • RE: 👋 Introduce or Re-Introduce Yourself (Current)

Hello. My name is James I live in South Florida. I have been a huge fan of Axis and Allies since I was 10 years old. I remember the day I first saw the game at a local kaybee toy store. At that time I loved war movies (old ones) and loved playing army men. There was something about that game that called to me. I begged my parents to buy it . That was an expensive game for 1984 i believe it was around 45- 50 dollars. So needless to say it took weeks of begging and chores before they knew I really wanted it. It’s probably why I majored in History in the first place. I learned a lot from play Axis (it’s what I always called it) It had a chess like quality and i loved chess as well so to me it had everything I loved. I played it with my friends often. More often than they liked it course. It was hard finding people to play that game at that age who actually liked it and understood how to play. So to make it interesting when I hit high school my friends and I played for real money. When you lost a territory it was the dollar amount in ipc’s that the losing player has to give you. So the more territories you owned of a player when the game ended the more money you won for winning the game. So needless to say people played a little different in order to collect a big win. I love everything about the game the tactics , strategy, game flow, and economics. I

I use to own every version of game. But when I was in my 30s i had lost my job, my girl and my house. The trifecta of doom. So I sold most of all my possessions including all but original axis game including original Anniversary edition. That was a tough one but someone offered me 800 dollars for it So I couldn’t say no. There was a long time of no gaming before I stumbled across Axis and allies global. I was ecstatic . I bought both versions of second edition and with a new group of nerd friends we began playing again. I have played at Orgins game fair several years in tournaments. Those guys there can play boy whooo. It was always a brain busting game. I love playing high level Axis it is the BEST. I enjoy discussing strats because there is always something new to try that forces opponents to buy things they don’t want . Once I saw the revival of the game and all the custom pieces that exist now I was complete floored. The passion i saw in other players made me get back into the game. It’s nice to see people who are crazy as you about a game most people don’t give a deal about. Thank you internet.

I have all the rules to all the games including 3rd party rules over the years made by crazies like us. I submitted them to young grasshopper to distribute to fellow players if they were interested in them. I have been a member in here before but time gets away from you and I don’t post a lot anymore. But I love to see the discussions in the forums from the younger players. Since games table went offline i wasn’t able to play Axis online since the pc game from 1998. The games table versions was great. But that triple a game isn’t bad at all. You just need to look at the board carefully because you forget to move things because the colours blend too much. If anyone is looking to play a game online i am ready to play. If anyone is in the South Florida area and would like to have a game i also would be eager to play. It’s nice to see such a large group of player here to chat about a game that’s been in my life 34 years.

      Thank you for the site.

    • Is sealion mandatory for high level play?

Just curious for those of you that play with high level people in Global 40. Playing as many games as I have I have noticed that if your playing  veteran players Germany needs to activate sealion or at least fake sealion. Otherwise Uk is able to purchase without pressure. Does anyone else find this the case that Sealion is almost mandatory?

    • Trouble finding Hellcats

Just wondering if the wildcats look close enough to hellcats for the axis game. I have found good looking wildcats from shapeways but no luck on hellcats. I know wildcats were the outdated fighter that were used mostly for training before the war started. HBG ones are on back order so asking the forum’s opinion do I wait for actual hellcats or just get the wildcats? LOL

    • Axis and Allies Expansions (1989-1992)

I have been watching a bunch of the Vids on youtube done by some of your members as well as reading through many threads. I noticed that I don’t see any mention of the Gamers Paradise rules. They have many of the inclusions I see you guys incorporate in your own games I have seen online. The first Expansion was all about Naval rules (Escorts, Destroyers, Cruisers, Convoys, Subs) The second expansion went into great detail about special units (Paratroopers, Artillery, Air transports, German SS, Us Marines, British Commandos, Japanese Pillboxes, Hellcat and Zero carrier based aircraft, unavailable for service fighter rules) Many of these which have been included over the years.

I was just curious since you guys really get detailed in your board setups and historical play style. If I find my rule books (I know have them somewhere) did you guys want them posted on here so you can print them out? I don’t think the company is active anymore so I don’t think its a problem to just give the rules out.

I know for a fact the navy rules add a lot of complexity and allow for a real battle of the Atlantic. These rules became standard when I used to play on the classic axis game.

If you guys are interested let me know. The rules do no good sitting in a box.

    • Looking for miniatures for Axis and Allies Boardgame

Just wanted some of your opinions on what miniature company has the better models to paint up to use in game? I have looked at Shapeways and GHQ they seem to be the best. I don’t need crazy detail but a good looking model. I notice there is a difference in the shapeways options like “strong and flexible” and “frosted detail” Just looking to see what you guys like better . I haven’t looked for minis for a long time so I am out of the loop. Any help would be appreciated.
