    • RE: Too much first turn luck swing?

@Dimitri In terms of Axis and Allies games getting stale, all versions of the game become the same because of its basic D6 system and limitations of meaniful game spaces. To new players its a fun version of WW2. To experienced strategists who really like to get involved in a WW2 game it will always become stale.
You will notice that the experienced players shifted to AA 1940 Global for a time since at that time that game offered more options for strategy. Then once players figured out the standard openings for that game they then moved over to Axis and Allies 1936. More complex and a D12 system allowing for a more detailed level of play.
So really it breaks down to how complex a game do you really want to play? Hours?, days?, weeks? It is like playing chess. There are only so many openings and its up to the players to create situations that cause an oppenent to make moves he/she didn’t want to make. Dice will always be a complaint, however no real battle didnt have some sort of luck play a part.(ie Midway) So as a player who plays war games with Dice systems you accept the rolls as they come. If the dice system bothers you, you can always use low luck systems.
What I find interesting is even though AA online 1942 is a great version it pales in comparison to Triple A which has the Global 1940 rules and all the complexities. So I look at AA 1942 online as the starting spot for new players. It has all the info to teach you how a AA game is played. All those side panels helping new players learn the game. Beamdog did a great job for their first time out.
So, if your looking for a more complex game then AA online 1942 then Triple A with low luck dice is probably where you want to go to.

@Midnight_Reaper Oh no, sorry for confusion. I have all three sets still in my possession. World war 2 (The expansion). I was just offering the files I had to anyone who might want to take a peak since the price is a bit too high on ebay because of the scarcity. But thank you for the offer.

@Midnight_Reaper thats the book Midnight. I thought the rules for convoys and subs was interesting. Since that was done in the early 90s and mods for Axis were few and far back then. Wolfpacks vs convoys was a good dynamic inside the Original AAA. Transports just dying is a sore spot for some players. This allowed transports a role besides just dying and it gave navy combat some interesting options both for Axis and the Allies.
      Its a desent rule set.

    • [Global 1940] Destroyer and Destroyer Escorts

Has anyone seen the rule book from Gamers Paradise that talks about destroyers and destroyer escorts? Its was a mod to the original AAA but I think the rule set fits well with the global 1940 game.

If anyone would like to see the rule set I have them in a file I could post here if that would be ok. Its from the early 90s so I dont think original author would mine since its no longer for sale. However I did see a ebay post for an original copy for 70 dollars american. (Crazy)

    • RE: Trying to Help the Devs.

@ArtilleryAficianado I never understood why it is so hard to have an actualy Rng Dice system. Its been that way for years. The orginal Axis and allies made by Hasbro had a desent transport loading by you are correct the system for loading and unloading is convuluted. I also noticed there are no special technologies or the ability to land planes on Ally’s carrier. (Strange) I just find it strange that a move mechanic has caused so much trouble over the years. The game is pretty stable and it recovers well so that is a positive. Since you have been playing as long as I have you know this type of game could have been much worse. Its a good start. But I I agree completely about the RNG dice roll. I just never understood.

    • What can be done to stop 3rd Turn India fall?

I know the community runs lots of strategies for the game but eventually players are going to find the best moves to force an opponent to move or purchase what “you want” rather then what they need. I know 1940 global has more then one opening like chess but the 1942 online version since has been played long before global it has its limitations so I ask the community… What is your best moves that will stop Japan from taking India on Turn 3?

    • Trying to Help the Devs.

After reading through many threads I notice the passion that this community has for this game. I myself have been playing this game since its release back in 1986 and all its versions. Has there been a thread where we get together and discuss what mechanics should be in this online game ?(Axis and Allies online 1942) I know there have been other versions that have had better mechanics in certain aspects of the game such as transport loading and unloading. I know many of us have ideas on how to improve the online version of the game so I believe we need to start a thread that hashes out what can work and what kind of conviences should be in the game.

I see that Beamdog has been in the disscussions so I know there is an attempt to use fan feedback to improve the game. Has there been a discussion within the community on what the majority of us agree on should be in the game as a staple? And has Beamdog talked about the complexity of the programming? Sometimes all the little details that we do in the board game version that can seem easy can be very difficult to code in a digital version.

So what are we going to agree on as far as mechanics and life convienences that we can help usher in that will help the developer make this a better game that the Veterans as well as a new recruits can enjoy for years. Because if we can iron out the kinks to the 1942 version then the other versions of the game can be a reality. I love this game and I can tell that most of you love it too. I can tell from the passion in the threads. So if there is a disscussion thread already about how to help the devs someone send me the link. If there isnt one yet them lets start one.

      Big issues?

      Transport loading unloading
      Arrows of movement
How hard is a true dice randomizer really?
      Speed of game?
Player choices for level of detail per country. (Music, history, visuals, )

      Lets discuss

    • RE: HISTORICAL DECALS for American Carriers.

@grdhou nothing crazy. Looking to put together decals that have matching numbers for the American carriers. Lexington, Enterprise, Yorktown and Hornet. I think I have seen your paint work from a site. Looks amazing. What are the prices for something like a painted up Usa player from the 1940 global game? I would be interested in trying to put together a full painted game set over time. I would mail you the pieces. Starting with Usa player.

    • HISTORICAL DECALS for American Carriers.

Just wondering if anyone had found decals that match the designation numbers for the American Carriers. I have found lots of custom decals by others. Just not the numbers that match Yorktown,Enterprise, Hornet, Lexington. Am I just missing it? Everyone here is pretty detailed historically so I think I am just missing it somewhere. Can anyone direct me? Thank you

    • RE: A List of Expansions for Milton Bradley-era Axis & Allies

@Midnight_Reaper There was a group of pieces made by pewtercraft each had their rules with them for use with axis and allies from that time period of MB. not sure if the rules can be found anymore and pewtercraft has been done for a while. The ones I currently have.

      Fortresses
      Heavy artillery
      Anti tank guns
Mechanized infintry (this is in game now)
      Pt Boats
Troop Trains (versions of this are now in game)
      AAA/At guns
      Scorched earth ruins
      Pocket battleships

Some of the ideas are good if they are tweaked a bit.

    • What are your comfortable game lengths?

Most of us have been playing this game for quite a while. I was curious to know with all the house rules we seem to come up with that game length keeps increasing. Hit dice definitely speeds up the game but what are your comfortable game lengths that you can Finnish in a play session? Is it a day? Or weekend? Or are some of you so serious that you play a game over the course of weeks?

    • RE: Complex repair

@Aaron_the_Warmonger As far as I remember and read. The damage reduces capacity. So majors have 10 minors have 3. If you damage a major by 3 then 7 units can be placed. If you damaged a minor by 3 you build nothing unless you pay down the damage. Also remember that capitol ships cannot be repaired at all if the seaport is damaged by any number of points. Clean ports can repair and use movement bonus. But damaged factories always have production reductions.

    • RE: [Global 1940] Reasons for a cruiser.

@SS-GEN There was a rule set in Gamers paradice book from early 90s that used a method of getting Japan to actually battle in the Pacific. It isnt perfect or realistic but it does have the effect you want. If I remember correctly all islands without ipc value have a value of 2(3) but it is only subtracted from japan and not added to anyone else. It doesnt add to japans income either they still have their normal income. This way japan must maintain a presence in pacific like the actual war and allows america/anzac to pull japan to battle for the islands. Without disrupting economy. It was just a game mechanic that allowed a little history to happen.
