    • Japanese First Turn

The famous Japanese first turn where by everyone defends against Japan with a die role of 1 excluding China. This first turn is important and basically can decide the rest of the game.

What does everyone do on Japans first turn I am curious do you take anything and everything of Ipc value or do you take strategic points such as islands with ports on them or do you simply aim at annihlating the enemy navies or do you do a bit of each.

I personally aim at annihlating the enemy fleets and capturing anything of ipc value. The only side affect of my tactic is the allies approach me extremely fast via the sea ports that I never captured.

      Any ideas or helpfull hints?

      Yeah Algeria sorry.

I don’t know about that Yanny, with the money that Germany gets from Russia, the rest of Africa and by taking convoy routes the allies will have less economic power than Germany. Allowing Germany to decisivily win either of my new rule ideas.

But you may be right I have not yet tried out these new rules & they do seem a bit challenging.

But I really think Europe had the potential to be the best A&A board game but they screwed up somewhere, and Germany just wins every time so we really need a good new rule for experts.

    • RE: Russian strategy

Adam i have played the game simply long enough to realise that his tactic against a pro is simply suicidal for Russia. I think there is no other simpler way for me to explain it, rather than you guys should keep playing the game until you get good enough to realise the error of this particular tactic.

Sorry for any pay outs or inconvience it has all derrived from an inner impatience and annoyance.

When you become an expert at the game you realise that Germany can easily push through Russia and take Moscow. Thus when you become a pro at the game the allies will then look like the hard pressed team…

    • Winning As Allies

All you have to do when you play A&A Europe is simply alter the Rules slightly For example in order for Germany to win it has to take over Britain and hold it tell its next turn. This basically makes the game totally even.

So once Germany takes Russia it gains russia’s ipcs and then the axis Ipcs are equal to the allied ipcs and thus the game at this stage is even, Germany can take convoy money and the allies have to defend convoy zones, BUT the allies have more places to amphibous assault and thus the Germans have more land to defend just like the allies have more convoys to defend, SO its an even based game.

Another alteration to the AAE rules are Germany has to take over all of Russia and all of Africa and than hold it until its next turn in order to win and i like this one because it is also historically correct, as Germany would have the main world oil supplies. Now with this new rule you may say then Germany can easily win like before, but the thing is Germany has to defend Tunisia as America is close to Tunisia and can therefore easily amphibous it and than resupply it and thus screw up Germany’s chances of winning.

I have only given you people 2 alterations to the rules and some tactics and pros that go with them, I think that everyone in these forums should at least play one of these rules and see how it goes.

Any problems or additions to these rules or tactics plz tell!

    • Historical Correctness

Who here found the historical correctness of Europe to be good? Personally I prefer Pacific for its historical correctness and I found that Europe is really stupid, hehe  because the Russian front chucks it totally out of WHACK! If I was to make the game I would make it so that Russia has sh*t loads of money and that they have a totally seperate defense and attack ratios ie. their tanks attack at 2 instead of 3 and so on… I think if Avalon Hill had of made the game more historically correct it would have been more enjoyable.

Does anyone else agree with me?

    • RE: Russian strategy

I like the historical repetitivness of your plan but I must tell you the Russians are stupid to attack anything, they are simply better defending, they should only be attacking the smallest German attack and that is Finlands.

I have seen this happen before, Germany goes anywhere down south and then th Russian destroys the German penetration in the South but Russia looses many forces as Russia is mainly a army of infantry attacking “AT 1”, it may have a few tanks and airplanes but not enough to prevent major loses. The idea of the Russian player is NOT to do MAJOR Counter-attacks (minor counter-attacks are fine) but to take the advantage of having lots of infantry that are best in defense.

    • RE: Russian strategy

Basically in my expert experience Russia would be wise to put up a 3 space defence, leningrad, belorussia and ukraine. It should use its planes, tanks and a few men to destroy the Northern pincer movement (Finland German Forces) and then once the Northern pincer movement is destroyed the forces freed from that can help in the defence of the 3 spaces ie once again leningrad, belorussia & Ukraine. This tactic is the only way to hold out against an expert German player. IF the german player is no expert than ur tactic of leaving stalingrad as a trap is truelly a historical repeat and a great idea.
