RE: Axis & Allies type Civil War game???
Battle Cry is fantastic and there are many additional user created setups on the web. You can usually play a game in about an hour and a half. My old roommate and I would play one a night in college until we played the whole war and keep score to see who was the “winner”.

RE: Lexington has been found
My grandfather wasn’t on the Lexington but he was a Sea Bee. Helped rebuild Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. My favorite story of his is when he would retell the end of the war.
“They said they dropped an atomic bomb on Japan. We didn’t know what the hell atomic meant.”

RE: Axis vs Allies Win Ratios
I guess the word “mastered” was not the correct choice. I should say the US strategy has gotten very “surgical”, which implies continued practice.
It was a mixed group of about 6 guys. Continually changing factions each time the game was played. At first, Germany was unstoppable every game. Then, Japan was a behemoth.
This was likely due to inexperience for all involved. As the Allied strategy developed, it went from massive US bombing campaigns on Germany to all out submarine convoy death to what it is now.
Its basically morphed into a Japanese assault from all sides, with UK DOW on turn 2 usually. This pre-empts some of the usual Japanese gains as Yunan becomes a fortress.
Most of our players wait until Japan is out of position and then slam with USSR forces into Manchuria and Korea. This disruption is usually enough for the Japan player to panic. Then the US brings the hurt with a massive bomber buy. This is followed by a massive sub buy and Japan is usually neutered. Not overrun, neutered. We all know what that means. Then Germany gets a taste.
This is usually predicated by the big Bryansk standoff.
Obviously we made some house rules to vary the game. I’ve posted here before. This creates less linearity for our play group and offers one time and continuous advantages for each faction. It also offers some disadvantages as well. Some very devastating, but not too out of the realm of reality.
Mostly Allied wins at this point. Usually an Axis win is from some achieved technology or a really great opener. Maybe we aren’t as skilled as some of the others here, but, win or lose, we have a great time and have never run out of beer. So win win for us!

RE: Axis vs Allies Win Ratios
Agree with Sjelso. We have mastered the Allies so well Axis has not won a game in about 15 tries. This over 1.5 years of game play from Jan 2017 to now.
Used to be Axis win every time.
Then the nasty “USA kill em all” strategy began to develop. We aren’t experts but not novice either. We got the game in 2012 (2nd ed.) and also played the other versions since 1992. -

pitched in for the super duper version. I hope this gets off the ground.

RE: Spain Pro-Axis ?
We left Turkey alone. We felt it would open up too many paths for both sides to cause issues with game balance.
PM me and I’ll send you our stuff.
Maybe you can use some of it.We like it

RE: Spain Pro-Axis ?
The reason we did this is because it was too easy for USA to bounce over and kill them instantly.
We are assuming this to be an invasion essentially all Spanish troops are conscripted and come under German power.
Not completely historical by any means but it lies on a roll chance of 1 in 18 and the event roll is only once per turn so it doesn’t happen too often.
It used to be only 4 inf divisions but it was too easy to overrun with the USA.
Again we are not looking for historical accuracy but some would say we should. If I sent you the remainder of available events you would likely say none are historical as well. We are really looking for some randomness to add fun to the game.

RE: Spain Pro-Axis ?
We have events in our HR for Global 1940 kind of OOB but not.
You roll 2 dice at the beginning of the turn for each power.
Germany can get Franco to join as follows.A roll of 5 thru 9 is no events
A roll of 11 results as follows:
11 – Franco joins the Axis powers. Spain can no longer remain neutral due to increasing pressure from Hitler.
Place German units consisting of 8 INF, 1 armor, 1 mobile infantry, 1 artillery, 1 fighter, 1 naval base, 1 airbase, 1 Minor Industrial complex in Spain. Place 1 transport and 1 destroyer in SZ 92. Place 1 submarine in SZ 91. Morocco place 1 INF (This event is negated if Spain is ever seized by the Allies prior to the event.) -
RE: Axis & Allies and Zombies is REAL
At least they haven’t let this line die. Get it, die…
:-D
Crickets…All in all, purists will hate it. It is what it is. But, it could be fun.
As Grandma always said, try what’s on your plate. You might like it.That’s what most folks are scared of. They might actually have to admit that the game is fun and entertaining. Correct me if I’m wrong, games are supposed to be both of those things and more.
My 2 cents.

RE: What's the one piece you think was missing from OOB?
This is for Global 1940.
Patrol Boat! No one has mentioned this. Cost 5 A2, D2, movement 2, naval base cannot boost movement. Cannot leave a coastline unless accompanied by destroyer, cruiser, or battleship.Just my contribution. Would help with English Channel, Denmark Straits, all of Pacific area.
Thoughts?

RE: What type of music do you guys listen to while playing a&a?
When Germany attacks USSR - heavy metal of any type - usually And Justice for All , or Master of Puppets; Metallica
When USA attacks anyone - Van Halen preferable from self titled album or 1984
When England attacks anyone - Led Zeppelin - No Quarter is a good one
When Japan attacks - shuffle is pressed on the Iphone
When USSR makes the big assault on Germany - Carmina Burana
When China attacks anyone - shuffle
When Anzac attacks anyone - shuffle
When Italy attacks anyone - shuffle -

I’m so glad i could spur such disdain for my statement. I am going to wrest the title from Lord Curtmungus soon. Maybe even rival the Vann formulas for uproar!!

RE: What if
Play a game and leave the USA out. Just skip their turn. It should become very apparent that it wouldn’t have ended well for the remaining allied forces.
