    • RE: An Allied strategy

I have to agree with A44, in my face to face experiance the game is pretty balanced.

Allied planning and co-ordination is critical, because it is reactionary.  A44’s plan is a broad “outline”, because the Allies always start the game reacting to the Axis.  Accepting that Japan needs to be stalled is the foundation of a solid Allied plan, and only America is in position to do that.

Otherwise, my contribution to Allied strat is to focus less on removing Axis $$ and more on maintaining Allied, especially UK, IPCs.

    • RE: 2011 Find League Opponents Here

I’d like to put my name out for a game if anyone is looking.

I’ll play either side, you pick.  Would prefer no tech.
Haven’t played for 6 months or so, just looking for one game for now.

    • RE: Most useless technology?

I voted based on “how many powers would make use this tech if they got it”, and came up with in no particular order:
      #1 Super Subs
      #2 Ship Yards
      #3 Paratroopers
      #4 Radar

I can see an application for all the air tech for any power; as for War Bonds, every single nation can make use of them and see some gain, so I can’t see how they make the list of “the worst”

    • RE: Question about PBF

As I recently found out, you get the map, save it under a new name, make the adjustments for your turn, then pass it back.

Just to clarify too, most people here (all) are using AABattlemap software, which lets you move the pieces on the board, it’s not like we’re using a digital camera and taking snaps of the board.

    • RE: Who has advantage in 1941?

I have yet to see anything that would make me think that the game isn’t balanced over the entirerty of playouts.

By that I mean that when the board is set up, and before the first dice is rolled and your playing yourself (equal foe!) you don’t know who is going to win.

I have played both sides against players’ claiming “unbeatable” stratagies.  With good play and an expectation that the game will run many turns to allow the key battles’ luck to even out both sides win.

Any game that is over in three or four turns is the anomoly, not the norm, and I feel that way too many people quit after the first couple turns when it may look bleak, not giving themselves the oportunity for the dice to balance back to the middle.

    • RE: AABattlemap crashing question

All the other maps I have tried have worked just fine, it’s specifically the one I got with the battle pack from the forums causing me issues.

    • AABattlemap crashing question

I attempted to install the battlepack map options I found on the board to include an alternate map with a track on the bottom for turn and a IPC score card and such, but whenever I click anywhere on the bottom area of the map, AABattlemap crashes to desktop with an error.

Anyone have any advice on this issue?

    • RE: What do you do with the Americans in your "standard game?

NOs on in most of my games.

America sits so deep in the turn que that which direction they go is determined by the Japanese play out.

    • RE: Which nation requires the least skill to play as?

Gotta say the US myself, for them its a question of time, if not when their money will overwhelm the axis, and not a question of getting ground under.

    • RE: Which nation requires the most skill to play as?

I vote Japan, with the UK second.

Japan is the axis hinge, if they are stimed on the Asian wall, Germany probably wont be able to overrun Russia in time to save itself.

I think what makes Japan so tough to play is that your fighting a mainland war when your main power is at sea…you have to project your sea power onto land to win; either by forcing the US out of the war and into a navy confrontation in the Pacific or by over running the Asian Wall and grinding Russia down, all why not loosing your Pacific front.

      Tough nation.

    • RE: Replace or revise the Banzai?

Personally I find Banzai to be one of Japan’s best advantages as it is. It allows them to forgo expensive art and tank buys and just use Inf for ground wars.

My group uses full NAs too BAGM; for Japan we did the following based on LHTR:

Combined the Suicide NAs into one,
Altered the Fanatical Defenders to "Japanese Inf defend on a 3 in the first cycle of combat when defending a yellow territory. Japanese Inf on islands are not subject to Battleship bombardment.

and are still playing out various “new” NAs. Our current option up for testing is “Total war!”, allowing Japan to build an unlimited number of units on its home territory.
