    • New player...confused

My 9 yo son and I frequently play A&A 1941. We got D-Day to have a better 2 person game. We are super confused. We watched one of the YouTube videos…more confusion

      1. Excluding the points/buying, do we play it just like 1941 + the orchestration of the cards?

      2. It seems like the cards make it boring, too scripted/predictable. This is so obvious that we think we are doing it wrong

      All advice is welcome here!

    • RE: Combat Questions

      re: #2

So I fully understand, could you clarify / confirm?

      • Western US is a separate square from sea zone 42. In this case it is 2 moves to get from the land to Midway, in zone 43

      • If that is true, how does it work when attacking a zone like square 45 with Japan surrounded by sea? Using Midway as a staging point, is it 3 moves to get to the Japanese mainland (43->44, 44->45, 45->Japan)?

      • If this is true, can planes overfly an occupied sea zone (e.g., 45) to stage an attack on Japan?

    • Combat Questions

Hi! Another rainy day, another game of A&A 1941…and more questions.

      1. Sub sneak attack: Does the attacker get only one sneak attack or can they press the attack if the 1st is unsuccessful? Are there any nuances beyond Destroyers not susceptible to the sneak attack?

      2. Are adjacent sea and land squares (e.g., the western US + the contiguous sea) one square or two for something like aircraft movement?

      3. How many movements are required to go E>W across the US?

      4. Is circumpolar navigation possible, across the top or bottom of the board?

Cool. Thank you. This makes a lot more sense.

      More questions to come!

    • RE: Basic combat question

I got the battleship part but let me clarify the regular sequence (excl subs). Consider the scenarios below. We have been playing using (A), (B), and ©.

Is (D) the proper way to handle an unsuccessful attack? I ask because, if not, there is point of rolling, really, if you want to attack. This is asymmetric withe defender that gets only one shot.

      =============

      Attacker: Fighter
      Defender: Tank

      (A) Successful attack scenario:

      1. Fighter rolls a 2. Attack successful
      2. Defender places tank in casualty box. Defender rolls a 6. Defense unsuccessful
      3. Tank loses

      (B) Double-loss attack scenario

      1. Fighter rolls a 2. Attack successful
      2. Defender places tank in casualty box. Defender rolls a 2. Defense successful
      3. Fighter and Tank lose

      © No-cost unsuccessful attack

      1. Fighter rolls a 6. Attack unsuccessful
      2. Attacker can roll again or retreat w/o cost or risk

      (D) Unsuccessful attack; successful defense

      1. Fighter rolls a 6. Attack unsuccessful
      2. Defender places tank in casualty box. Defender rolls a 2. Defense successful
      3. Fighter loses

    • Basic combat question

Hi! My son and I played for the first while hunkered down under smoke from the forest fires. The combat rules as we interpreted them do not seem right/competitive.

      Imagine this situation…

      • A fighter attacks a tank
      • The attacker rolls a 6, which is an unsuccessful attack
      1. Does the attacker really get to “press the attack” by rolling until they successfully role <=3 or they lose interest and retreat? That seems dumb but that is what the rules seem to indicate

      2. Are there really no relative hit points on the defending? It seems weird that a naked/plane-less carrier could take a Battleship down with it in defense mode if the defender rolls a 2 given that it has an attack strength of 2 and the battleship has a defense strength of 4

We must be doing it wrong. Please help
