I agree with Krieghund too.  There is nothing stating you cannot do that.  As well gamerman01, great for you to even think of doing that.  Not sure I would have!!

    • RE: Open letter to Larry Harris: Feedback on your excellent creation

It did not surprise me that Larry’s response to the OP was to be defensive to his creation.  I don’t blame him, I would have been too.  If he was to admit that the game was inferior in any way would be to admit weakness in the AA family of games.  Why would he do that?  But of course it does not take a genious to know that some of the changes mentioned by the OP were just (loved your letter to Larry OP, nicely done).

I for one am going to add 1 extra infantry in the UK as a house rule.  I am also adding the two extra Chinese units to protect the flying tiger (in 41) and make it harder for Japan to roll through China. I like Cruisers where they are at 12.  If you want to take advantage of the bombardment feature then you have to pay for it.  Otherwise buy Destroyers.  I also like the no IC’s on islands (UK, Japan, Australia exception) because it does not make sense historically.

What we have to remember is that each and every one of these proposed changes to the game will indeed have a impact on the outcome.  We may find it easy to pick out what we deem weaknesses of the game but lets put them into action first and see how they play out.  We may find that the game is better off the way it is.  Just my opinion.

Also, thanks to Larry for responding to the OP.  It shows class and caring for his creations that the takes the time to respond to his fans.

Remember though, with house rules you can do whatever you want!

    • RE: AA42 has been revealed….. now what?

I think in tough economic times they are making a great decision to release a low priced version of the game.  I probably won’t buy it as I already have revised and 50 but I do believe it will bring new people to the game as paying $135.00 (CAD) for the AA50 will just scare a lot of people away.  I would bet that the number of people that bought AA50 that did not have any previous experience with the game, or were not urged by someone of the likes, is extremely microscopic.  I would never have purchased AA50 first before purchasing AAR, it was just too expensive.

Also, I may be the minority, but I hope they do not reprint the AA50 anniversary edition, not right away anyway.  I paid the price I did because I wanted to be one of few who owned the game.  I don’t want them flooding the market with more and more reprints.  It brings the value of my game down (not just monetary value either).  I would rather see them do what Disney does and re-release the anniversay edition every 7 years or so.  This way can continue to release NEW battle versions and buying AA50 will be an exciting event, every 7 years or so  :-)  Just my opion, for what it is worth.

    • RE: A&A 1942 review with pics at BGG

I don’t get the no money thing.  If you don’t spend it you lose it?  If they are after new players than this alone will be enough to upset a new player.  I now need to track down a pencil and piece of paper to keep track of my money.  Hmmm.  I am relatively new to the AA world (about 9 months) but have played many versions so far.  I am confused by this.

EDIT:  I see it is recorded instead of having money.  Now I feel like a heal because I actually like that idea.

    • On-line play

Where does everyone play on-line?  I tried downloading that TripleA program but it was not user friendly and I am not very adept (or patient) at trying to figure that stuff out.  Plug n play or I just don’t play! LOL.  Is there a formal AA site where you guys go to play?  Any details, links, costs involved would be appreciated.

Edit:  I got the triple A working but way too time consuming for me so any other input is appreciated.

    • RE: Please explain 'bids'

Thanks Commander.  I don’t play on-line but I assume the same thing can be done on board with written bid on a piece of paper.  Yeah,  I don’t see the need for a bid in AA50 yet but Japan sure is strong……

Can someone tell me how this works please.  I can see it being beneficial but not sure what the steps are in ‘bidding’.

    • What are KJF and KGF?

I see the acronyms often but don’t what they stand for.

      Thanks.

    • RE: Rule question

Yes, because your transport that you loaded can ingnore the allied tranny and go do battle elsewhere and at the same time your other war ship/plane(s) can conduct combat on the allied tranny.  Totally legal.

    • What is AAA

I read about people using AAA to see how certain strats go.  Please share what AAA is.  I would like to use it and get an upper hand on my regular playing mates. LOL

    • RE: Heavy Bombers - House Rule

I too agree that HB can totally win a game.  However, I have also played games where my opponent spend a fortune trying to get HB but ended up with all the others first.  That is a lot of lost money on tech when you were really trying for one only.

I like tech because it changes the game every time.  It brings a freshness to every battle.  My buddy got paratroopers for Russia and utilized it to the fullest.  Really changed the way the Axis played their game.

If anyone has actually found a really good way (game played already) to limit the impact of HB I would still like to hear it.  I may just impose the same rules.

    • RE: Allies lose every game.

Recently found the boards, love them.  Currently our group is playing AA50, alternating between 41/42.  We also had experience with AAR and Europe.  However, it is only amongst our small group of friends.  I have a few questions if some of the more experienced players could help, or anyone for that matter  :-D.

      1)  What is a ‘bid’, as mentioned in previous posts in this thread?
      2)  How does Germany defend Norway/Finland if they choose not to go after Karelia?
      3)  Does anyone actually use Japan through China, I usually ignore China and put pressure from the North and India.  If you do use China, please explain your strat.  I usually let China build up to an enormous army and we can all laugh at the uselessness of them.

Also, have not played with NO’s yet.  I am assuming that is the optional play where you get extra IPC’s for owning ‘said’ territories.  I think we should start this though as I am guessing it shortens the games a bit.

I look forward to some feedback.
