      hey, sonny boy, just watch pop and learn.  Sorry about kicking beating your butt with my axis today , but i told you a strong american navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific has to balanced with enough transorts and land units. you ended up with loads of land units in america and England, just sitting there.

      Yep, try to read the threads here and learn also.  i agree……Bunnies P’s  old picture was more in the spirit of a warrior…the Ninja bunny

      I think it’d be a good poll question…how many guys are vets out there,and how many are just game fanatics, or war fanatics?

    • RE: Low Luck

      follow up on low luck question
      Lets say i attack with 6 tanks, = 18 attack, and defender has 6 tanks
      so you both elminate 3 units on round 1
      So on round two, the battle still rages, right?  so you both have 3 tanks=9 points, so you both take one unit off, and roll for the 3 remaining, right?

      so in that case, a) the game goes quicker and b) Big battles are settled more in low luck and small battles are settled by dice, right?

      @MrMalachiCrunch:

      Low luck is a way to reduce the role of the dice in a game.  You add up the attack values and defense values, so say you get 8 offense (2 tanks and 2 infantry say) and 5 defense (1 tank+1 Infantry).  Every multiple of 6 gives an automatic hit and the remainder is then rolled to determine if a hit occurs.  In this case the offense gets 1 automatic hit and 8-6=2 and a roll of 2 or less for a second hit.  The defense gets a roll of 5 or less to determine a hit.  13 versus 13 means both offense and defense get 2 hits and both get to roll on a ‘1’ to determine if a third hit occurs.  It means if you attack with 6 infantry you do not roll a dice, you get exactly 1 hit as you have 6 offense.

    • RE: Low Luck

      ah, simple enough

      so how do you normally play?

      On one hand, i like it……but lets face it, in war, Luck happens, at least in the short run, so weather,  a missed landing due to instrumentation, etc, also occurs (ie see the movie Midway)  so leaving Luck in the equation has its advantages.

      {besides an accurate description of my dating life in my earlier years},  what in  the world is  “low luck”?  I can’t seem to find a description in any thread

      Thanks

    • "Two Fer One" question

      Situation:  Suppose i have two land units and i am getting ready to wage  a simple land battle with the enemy next door.  Also suppose that this is a coastal country, and i happen to have a transport and a battleship right on the coast.

      Rather than wage a simply land battle, can’t i simply load my land units on a transport, and then call it a bombardment with an ambitious assault?.  Therefore, in effect, i get a “two for one”, since i get bombardment?

    • RE: Anyone think this seems too small now?

      by small, you mean Map size?
      if so, there are Full scale maps you can print out.  there is one map  that you can print  up in 12 sections,  so i print them up on a printer at work.
      ,
      I have the file, but it  may be too large to email.  but there are links elsewhere on this site, but i could not find them

      @Bunnies:

      I just say if they want advice they can ask me for it.

      Then . . . I laugh like so:

      “Nyehhehhehehehe!”

      Oh rabbit, please take me down the hole ;)

      Hey, a new player won’t know if its good or bad advice, so have at it.  like i tell my kids , half my advice is good, half bad.  I just don’t know which is which until you try it out.

    • RE: IPC count end of turn

      @Krieghund:

      @saturnracer:

      And, of course, if on the next players turn, he wins it back, you are right back where you started at.

      It’s important to not confuse your income level (indicated on the national production chart) with your IPCs “in the bank” (tracked on paper, or however you like).  Your income level moves up and down as you gain and lose territories.  As far as income level goes, you’re right that you end up back where you started if your opponent recaptures everything you captured.  However, during the Collect Income phase of your turn, you added the number of IPCs indicated by your income level on the chart to your “bank balance”.  Those IPCs are yours to keep until you spend them, so even if your opponent captures or recaptures territories, you will still have the IPCs you gained from them to spend on your next turn.

      Ahh…(Light bulb turning on)  So thats where the paper comes in…i always wondered why paper was needed, when we have a production chart
      thanks,…we really had a messed up game , then, as i woudl capture a territory or two, lose it back, and not have anything to show for it

    • IPC count end of turn

      I’ve read thru the threads, and have seen topics that seem to contradict this, so please help clarify:

      At the beginning of your turn, you purchase units (lets suppose you spend all IPCS)

      Now during your turn, you acquire territories, lets say 3 add’l IPC worth of territories.

      a)  You dont’ get to spend those 3 won IPCs till the next round, right?  even though you have the IPCs on your turn, its still too late to buy units, right?
      b) And, of course, if on the next players turn, he wins it back, you are right back where you started at.

    • RE: Collaboration between players

      @Bunnies:

      I like to discuss my strategies openly for all to hear.

      And when I do, I also like to twirl my moustaches and laugh like so:

      “Nyehhehhehehehe!”

      It’s quite liberating, actually.   :wink:

      This seems to be the best way , to discuss  in the open.  Hopefully i won’t reach a point where we have to send coded messages, but hey, that might make for an interesting spin on the game ….hmm

    • Progression of Play

      We have a few full games under our belt, a lot of fun, but still rookies.  Our games seem to be stalling, and taking a lot longer.  I think we are all reticient to attack, and we are building up too many forces, and not attacking enough.

      So how can i punish my opponents for donig this?  Let me give one example, (as the question is impossible to answer overall without a specific)…so my Russian opponent, on the 1st turn, simply buys, does not attack, and reinforces both fronts, and the same on round 2.  As Germany, I managed to take Caucacus twice, only to lose it back, (the second time i lost back because of UK).

      I suspect we all fee “safe” in loading up, and i know this strategy has to have faults, but i am not qute sure how to “beat the hoarder”.

      2nd Question:  I’ve been reading the threads to get better.  But there is a lot of abbreviations , do you have some help?  Like G1 means Germany’s 1st turn, and sz means Sea Zone, but i see a lot of other abbrev and acronyms that i can’t follow…anyone have a list?  Thanks

    • RE: What do you drink while playing AA42?

      I’ve found myself starting off with high caffeine, and rest of the night depends……

      For same strange reason, there seems to be an inverse relationship to alcohol and winning…i find switching to alcohol lessens my chances of winning,  but i sure seem to have a lot of fun losing .

      Staying with the caffeine seems to help me win, but it  too stressful…

      (i haven’t tried both, i heard it’s not good for your health)

    • RE: Collaboration between players

      thanks for your “philosophical answer”

      I guess common sense prevails…maybe colloborate to a certain degree…but not cross the line……
      so maybe announce Strategies publically,  For example… Germany  and Japan  can say “lets go after africa”…

      but keep tactics quiet…so in other words, Germany shouldn’t say “let me buy two ships and Japan, you by the tanks and artillery”

      so some teamwork, but not TOO MUCH

    • Collaboration between players

      Promise, the last dumb question i will ever ask here  (NOT)

      I realize that the game is ultimately between two sides.

      But to what degree should you communicate to the other powers on your side?

      For example, should Japan say outloud “Ok, i am gong to put an IC on the main land”, and ask the German player  “ok, you squeeze Russia , we will meet up in the middle, and both of us go after Africa together”

      I dont’ see it addressed explicitly…it could result in one dominant player effectively controlling the entire side…
      So it is simply “house rules”, or Etiquette", or what is the “gentleman” thing to do is this game of war?

    • RE: Amphibious assault - movement before and after

      ok  the follow up (and real question)……when the amphibious assault unloads, i can fight right away, correct?

      (IE…I land in “fighting mode”)  my friends were saying that loading/unloading is the move, and you fight on the next round,

      Thanks, great game,

    • Amphibious assault - movement before and after

      i think the rules are clear on this, but it caused quite a stir, so here goes:
      (assume no hostile sea units exist)
      Lets say i am going to launch a simple amphibious assault:  so i load 1 tank and 1 infantry, move 2 sea zones, and unload on land, and start to fight in the same space i landed.  all good so far.
      Some other players were telling me that the infantry used its moves for that turn.  They only get one movement, and the act of loading and unloading counts as a movement.
      I say “No”
      Q:  So assume the infantry are already “on the coast” at the beginning of my turn:, loading into and out of  a transport does not county towards their infantry move, right?  or what exactly is their “one move” comprised of on an amphibious assualt.
      Q2:  so my tank, does it get to blitz into a second territory when it unloads?  doesn’t the first land it touches when it offloads count as the “First move”?
      Thanks, planning a second game tonight, so a ‘third party’ expertise would really help
