I can see what you are saying about building more infantry, especially early, for a defensive strategy.

      2x Armor: $10 for 6 Def
      3x Infantry: $9 for 6 Def

I will keep that in mind in the future.

As for bottle-necking and stack sizes, should I be setting up an easy target for German capture, so that I can then counter attack that spot? If so, would that spot be West Russia?

My reasoning for taking Norway may be shaky in retrospect, but here it is. Taking Norway secures $3 (which is much less than I spent taking it I realize), and it prevented the German bomber in Germany from having a safe landing area for a joint attack against UK BB in SZ 2 with the German sub in SZ 8.

I was deployed with a Marine that was Canadian, but I never bothered to ask him much about his citizenship status. I know there are plenty of Mexican Marines that aren’t citizens or naturalized. It may work different for each country, and I would have no clue about the inner workings of Corps’ bureaucracy.

Feel free to point out my blunders, offer advice, critique selections, etc. at any time. I’m more interested in learning than winning.

Marine will do just fine. Sailors are just our ride, thank you very much. :)

Ok, I hope I did this right. I went ahead and did R1, but I had to select casualties for you. Am I correct in doing that? Please feel free to correct me on anything I messed up, and if we need to start over, I understand. lol

    • RE: Newbie Looking for Game

I’ve already installed TripleA, and I have fiddled with it a bit. I have been playing a few rounds on LHTR settings, sans tech, but I am not sure which of the games is supposed to most resemble Spring '42, if any of them are meant to.

    • RE: Top 5 Console Games

      My top 5:

      1. Final Fantasy 3 - SNES (Yes, I know it is really FF6, but my cartridge said 3. That’s what I am calling it.)

      2. Gran Turismo 5 - PS3 (If you haven’t experienced this with a good wheel and pedals, you are missing out!)

      3. Stanley Cup Hockey - SNES (INCREDIBLE game. Graphics were good for the platform, and game play was amazing. We had to outlaw dump shots from the blue line because that glitch made it no fun.)

      4. Star Fox - SNES (I don’t even know what to say about this game without sounding like a fanboy.)

      5. Final Fantasy 7 - PS (great storyline, game play, and graphics; cliche villain and bad hair-dos)

Honorable Mention: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island - SNES (I swear that game used digital crack.)

    • RE: What are your favorite games to play with xbox live

I play a lot of Gears of War on Live, but I still suck at it. I love the Gears series, but Epic’s server setup for online play is marginal at best. I can count on one hand the number of times I have made it past wave 10 on Horde mode with a full five players, and most of those times was using a split-screen with my brother. Host migrations and disconnects are poorly handled and run rampant.

    • RE: LOTR Risk

I played LOTR Risk one time. It is extremely unbalanced if it is a 3-player game, or at least it was the way we played it. We may have misinterpreted the rules, but as the Free Peoples, I was outnumbered 2:1 from the start. I chose the wrong strategy for the setup, and the game was effectively over at the start of turn 2. I’d like to play it again sometime, but it really is just Risk. It all comes down to the dice rolls, and Lady Luck is a fickle mistress with me.

    • Newbie Looking for Game

I am new to this site and to A&A in general. The only rules set that I honestly feel comfortable with so far is Spring '42, but I know that LHTR and Revised aren’t too terribly different. I have never played a full game of A&A, and I have never played even a partial game through PBF or PBEM.

That being said, I am looking to cut my teeth on some A&A. I am open to PBF or PBEM, whichever my opponent is more comfortable with. I seek an opponent that can thoroughly trounce me while keeping the kid-gloves on somewhat. I want an opponent that will be patient with a new player and can help me develop strategy. I do not expect to win or even make my opponent break a sweat. Playing against me will require a bit of hand-holding, but I am a fast learner. I have no preference to a certain side or power.

If you are interested, you can reply here or feel free to drop me a PM. If you don’t wish to play against me, but you still want to help me learn, feel free to school me up. If you want to ridicule me and call me a newb, feel free. Sticks and stones will break your bones, but this Marine fights with a rifle. ;)

    • RE: GARGANTUA'S $200 TOURNAMENT OF EXTRA DEATH AND PAIN (TripleA Only) 2xELIMINATION

Ok, so complete noob here drafted, and I need a team.

I am warning you now; I don’t mince words. When I say noob, I mean nahoooo-buhhhh. The only A&A experience I have is a half-hearted game of Revised (I think) about ten years ago, and one complete turn of Spring '42. I recently picked up Spring '42, and I pretty well have the rules down for it. I just haven’t had much chance to play. Most of my friends don’t have the attention span for games like these.

I have downloaded TripleA, and I fiddled with it a bit.

Pick me if you are completely prepared to have no shot winning $200. haha

I haven’t been able to really come up with a base-line strategy for this game yet, so expect extra noob-sauce on this Big Mac.

    • RE: Struggling Young Veterans

Well, I didn’t expect that my first post on this site would be in a topic like this, but after much forum browsing, I came across this topic. I am a veteran, and I understand the troubles we face. I am currently seeking employment, and I am having trouble finding a job for various reasons. I am a full-time student during the normal school-year, and I pretty much live off the BAH (basic allowance for housing) granted to me by the Post-9/11 GI Bill. That only applies during the school year, so I have to work over the summer. I could work while school is in session, but I take 18-21 semester hours every semester. This means that, if I get a job, my studies are significantly impacted in a negative way. It’s hard to find a job when the employer knows that you will be leaving in a few months. While I understand the motivations behind telling half-truths or even outright lies to make one’s self seem like a better candidate, I can’t bring myself to compromise my integrity.

My last post in the military had me fulfilling a billet designated for a Master Sergeant as a Corporal, later as a Sergeant. For those of you that don’t know how the enlisted rank structure works or its nuances, this put me in a position that, typically, I should never have even been considered for, even on a temporary basis. I was in charge of a $6 million urban warfare training facility, and I was the first military person on-deck directly with the project. My first day “at the office” occurred while construction contractors were still on-site, finishing the facility.

My time in the service of this country gave me many skills that are applicable in the civilian world. I consider myself a pretty good candidate for any job, regardless of the field. I have little doubt that, once I complete my education, I will find a job. Speaking as a veteran, I have all the confidence in the world in my abilities. That confidence was instilled in me by the military.

There are some aspects of the civilian world that I know are counter-intuitive to veterans. I struggled to find work after I was discharged, and I figured out some of the issues that were hindering my success. I consider myself a pretty good writer, but I quickly found out that my resume was marginally decent, at best. There is a definite technique to writing a resume, and I will gladly look over anyone’s resume for them to offer critical advice. This is especially true for veterans. There is often a severe need for translation when it comes to military experience. It may seem like you are using “civvy” language, but often times, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Most of all, I keep my chin up. I think the one thing I learned the most from my service is that, if you treat every situation like it is combat, you will be successful. When failure means death, success is the only option. That is one of the implied points of writings like The Art of War and The Book of Five Rings.

Keep your chin up, stay motivated, and square yourself away. Seeking out support from other veterans, or even just friends, family, and others in general, is a good thing. It is not weakness to admit that you need help. We do not have to fight this battle alone.
