      Well, the actual moving of pieces does take only 5 or 10 minutes, correct. It takes longer to assess the situation, explore options, discuss with your teammate(s) (it is a team effort, after all), and crunch a few final figures to make sure you aren’t missing anything.

      Add to this that sometimes life happens. I know Garg has been busy with work, and he has had some hardware issues as well, apparently. I know that, for myself, the past month has been pretty hectic. I had 4 weeks to develop a conceptual design for a computer system based on a database with well over 300,000 records, and I had to do this with a group that was too large and inexperienced to truly handle the project. I had to purchase a vehicle which means I had to go wrangle a virgin and a goat to sacrifice to the pagan gods that rule over the Department of Motor Vehicles. On top of that, I have my little bit of a social life leftover which was consumed mostly by my girlfriend being pissed off at me for not being available enough because of my increased workload just from school alone.

      Yes, it took a while to do a couple turns. It’s hard to string together all the time required for your 5 to 10 minutes. I’ve apologized for that already. If that isn’t good enough for you, I don’t know what else to tell you. It isn’t as if we are bringing the whole tourney to a halt. It’s a forum game, so there is an implied time overhead associated with it. When we are the sole reason the tournament is being dragged to a halt or you haven’t at least received a courtesy “hold please” for a good space of time, you can ask for forfeit. In the mean time, unless you wish to become my personal assistant or give me the pussy I need to remain sane, please remain calm and exercise some patience.

      I apologize for the delay. I’ve had a lot of project work come my way with school and crap, add to that a woman and buying a car. On top of that, it’s been hell trying to coordinate with Garg. Since I am a newb, I seek my team mate’s approval before I go newb it up.

      Yeah, keeping track of ALL dice throughout a game would make a lot of overhead for the files. Japan rolled average dice, and America had a lucky turn. I imagine it will balance out somewhere else unless that was a balance for a previous turn.

      There was a major edit that had to take place during my non-combat move. The submarines in SZ6 were causing me not to be able to move units there as I should be able to. During the non-combat history, you will see multiple units landing in SZ18. These units plus the two fighters that attacked Iwo Jima and an extra AC were edited in. The extra carrier had to be edited in for the entire edit to be complete, and the AC produced was placed in SZ and deleted. Two infantry were edited in to Korea and  in-turn removed from Japan.

      I’m not sure what the bug is or who to talk to about it, but it seems subs are making a SZ hostile when they should not.

      What are the 15 units though? 15 unsupported infantry getting only one hit on offense is not statistically overly improbable. Even with an average roll of 1.933, 15 unsupported infantry could score only 1 hit and roll 14 2’s. That’s why I am saying that it is the context of the rolls, not luck, that is most affecting games of this nature. Luck is just a “false positive.”

      Garg’s post illustrates the math perfectly, by the way, if his point doesn’t necessarily. His 19-roll average is closer to 3.500 than the Russian 7-roll average. If this were Risk, Garg would be flaunting how lucky he is to have rolled so well. High and low are arbitrary to the system. There is no luck.

      7 rolls or 25 rolls isn’t really enough to illustrate the Law of Central Tendency. I could run the math, but I feel reasonably safe saying that an average of 2.571 is not inconceivable over 7 rolls. Something as high as 4.429 is just as conceivable, so higher or lower numbers being the better is just an arbitration of the rules.

      If you take a random sample of any 200 rolls, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the average roll is somewhere in the neighborhood of 3.500.

      Like I said before, the number of dice rolled in a game such as this pretty much eliminates luck in the long run. There is something to be said about luck in a clutch situation, yes, but speaking from experience, luck plays its role in every battle. If you follow the teachings of Sun Tzu, though, you should be accounting for bad luck anyway. Either way, the dice should be a moot point. They are just the vehicle for deciding who lives and who dies instead of actually sending troops to sort it out.  I am not saying that it is an accurate comparison, dice to troops, but it is one of supreme convenience for the situation, a game.

      I have seen good and bad “luck” in this match, but I rest assured that, in the long run, it isn’t luck that will win or lose this match.
