So, what I am reading is that Air units can make a combat move up to four zones there and back and then a non-combat move of up to four zones?

RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?
Thank you for your kind words. I will look at the other sites. The reason I asked the question is just because we use Alpha 2 does not mean it alleviates the other rules set forth in the rule book such as those at pages 27 (Europe) and 26 (Pacific). Since it stated that the sea zone and island group are counted as one movement I understood this to mean that a strategic bomber could hit the Philippines on movement #4 and retreat to Kwangsi by move #7. If this is a correct interpretation it would significantly affect Japan’s strategies and movements. Same if it is not the correct interpretation.
What would be the correct interpretation?
Again regarding Japan’s strategy and again an interpretation of the rules as to U.S. ships not being able to end their movement in sea zones adjacent to a Jap controlled island group. One could state that sz #23 is adjacent to Jap controlled Marianas or Marshall. Other interpretation is adjacent to island group such as sz 22 or sz 32.
Which is it?

RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?
Please forgive my lack of computer savvy. I thought asking a relevant question was within the rules of the forum? Maybe not? Anyway, an SBM is not a sub, it is a strategic bomber? I asked the question because it was relevant to your discussion of Jap strategy. If you already know the answer that is great. However, I don’t and asked for help.

RE: What is making Alpha 2+ unbalanced?
Need help understanding the balance of Italy. Many gamers speak of moving the German fighter from Hungary and TAC from Poland that are used to attack France on G1 to Southern Italy. How can they get there? It is 3 moves from where they are to France with one left over to Northern Italy? Am I missing something?
Don’t the Italian planes in Northern Italy get to scramble as well as the one in Southern Italy if UK does Toranto in SZ 97?
Please advise.

RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?
Please all gamers. I have questions that I believe is significant to Japan’s strategy and survival. It pertains to rules about aircraft movement and American movement while neutral.
At page 27 of the Rules (Europe)and 26 (Pacific) it states … to determine range…when moving over water from a coastal territory or island group count the first sea zone entered as one space. When flying to an Island group, count the surrounding sea zone and Island group itself as one space.
Query: Japan moves its SBM from Japan to attack Philippines. Move 1 japan to sz 6. move 2 sz 6-sz 19, move 3 sz 19 to sz 20, IS move 4 sz 20-sz35 OR is move 4 sz 20 to Philippines Islands itself because the Island group and surrounding sea zone is counted as one space?
Query: Alpha 2 rules. American neutrality movement of ships in the Pacific allows them to end movement in sea zones NOT adjacent to japanese controlled territories or Islands. Does this mean US ships in the Philippines can end their move in sz 23 between Marianas and Wake or are they prohibited from this move because it is adjacent to a jap controlled island? Or, is the jap controlled island Marianas sz 22?
Please advise…

RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?
Question about winning the game for the Axis. Is it both. That is, does it mean that you need 6 of 8 in the Pacific AND 8 of 11 in Europe. Or, is it one or the other.

RE: German opening.
Dear Alsch91: I believe your comments about the Strategic Bombing and escorts and interceptors is incorrect. Alpha 2 Rules state that the interceptors are removed immediately, not the escorts.
Example: Germany with 3SBM and 6 fighter escorts vs UK with 6 fighters. German escorts fire at interceptors at 1 and achieve 2 hits (luck). Does this mean only 4 interceptors can fire at the bombers or still the 6 and the losses are taken after firing at the bombers? If so, why do the rules state remove the interceptor casualties immediately? -
RE: AAG40 FAQ
To any gamers out there please assit. In Alpha 2 Strategic Bombing. Fighter escorts travelling with the Bombers fire at 1 against interceptors which fire at 2. The rules state remove interceptor casualties immediately. Does this mean that interceptors that are shot down by escorts cannot shoot at the bombers?
Example: Germany has 3 SMB with 6 fighter escorts against 6 UK fighter interceptors. The escorts fire at 1 and achieve 1 hit. Does this mean only 5 interceptors can fire at the German Bombers or can six still fire? If 6 can still fire why do the rules state remove the interceptors immediately?
Please clarify

RE: Thoughts on a Japanese strategy?
Played a game where the U.S moved fleet to Hawaii. J1 3 tt, consolidated fleet in sz6 and moved 3FT and 3TAC to Carolina. J2, built 2SBM and 3TT and moved entire fleet with 6TT loaded to Hawii water. J3. built factory, dd’s and subs DOW on U.S. hit them with 16 planes and entire fleet. Lost my subs and dd’s and one CA. U.S. fleet sunk and took Honolulu. Puts Japan in position to hammer U.S. builds in homewaters off San Fran.
Cavaet. Allows Calcutta to build up too but hope to make up for it with tanks from factory.

RE: German opening.
I have a question for all gamers regarding strategic bombing under Alpha 2. Germany attacks Russia from East Poland with 4 SBM’s supported by 2 fighter escorts. Russia puts two fighter interceptors. The rules state if the attacker(germany) get a hit with either its fighters or bombers with a (1) the interceptor is removed immediately. Thus, if Germany with 2 fighter escorts and 4 SBM’s scores 2 hits does that mean the escorts do not get to shoot back at (2). Or, if the german rolls snake eyes and hits both interceptors does this mean they are removed immediately before they can shoot at the german bombers?
Please help

Do those two Inf in Novobrisk come from the stack of 18 or are they in addition thereto?

RE: Best Srat Ideas
I realize that Operation Sea Lion leaves the door open on the Eastern Front. But, if successful on G3 it gives Germany nearly 90 IPC to rebuild the Eastern Front. Even if England is retaken in G4 or G5 is seems to be worth the risk and money. Alternatively, Germany can use the TT’s for a naval assault on Leningrad.
Query: Can Russia move into China? If so, when and under what conditions?
Thanks for the assistance.

Question about Gibralter please. If the Germans or Italians bomb the airbase and naval base belonging to the UK rendering bot inoperable can the U.S.A. land there and repair these facilities or must it be done solely by England because it is an original UK territory?

RE: Best Srat Ideas
Thank you Jennifer the Muscovite Czarina for the insight and answers. Again as to G4 Sea Lion. I see the 26 units in Scotland? If Germany has only 53 IPC on G3 the max build is 15 INF and 2 Art. or some combination therteof. Thus, 43 troops. If UK Turtles and builds only Infantry for three rounds they have added 30 infantry plus the other troops from Canada and Gibralter/Malta and/or Africa in addition to their planes and staring infantry.
How does Germany benefit by waiting from G3 to G4?
