I am simply one of those folks who disagrees with attacking Pearl Harbor, under almost every circumstance.  So what if that fleet heads for the UK.  That is 3 rounds from now, and cannot be used against Germany until round 4.  If the Axis is not in a strong economic position by round 4 with a good strangle-hold on Russia by that time as well as possessing a number of UK territories, they might as well surrender.

If Russia took Manchuria, then you consolidate your naval forces to maximize your initial strike on Manchuria (2 BB’s, 2 tranny’s worth of troops, lots of air-support).  If not, then use most of the fleet to either take SFE, or Australia.  Or use your Phillipine Tranny to assist in India (as you suggest).

But for maximum effect against Russia, you have to go 2-prong as Japan, with the main strike eating away Russian IPC’s to reduce INF builds (making Germany’s job easier), and the second prong weakening UK by taking IPC from them and forcing Russia to defend on 3 fronts: in Karelia, against forces coming through Yakut, and against forces coming north out of Persia or Sinkiang.

Russia cannot hold a large number of territories securely.  They can probably build up Novo pretty well, but then cannot also build up in both Evenk and Kaz.  So if you sustain 2 prongs against Russia as Japan, you WILL crack through with at least 1 prong to have troops adjacent to Russia; forcing Russia to defend home territory instead of Western frontier, allowing Germany more chance to advance.  Or, if the strategic situation is right, you converge your 2 prongs on Novo doubling your strike power there and leaving a sizable force adjacent to Russia and able to strike if able, or to sweep north or southwest to gain additonal IPC’s.

Ignoring Russia is a bad idea, especially early when those extra IPC’s create additional INF every round.

      Strike hard, strike fast.

      @Linkon:

Taking any Allied islands should be considered a luxury move.  Do it after critical territories are secured.

Not quite.  The question of whether to attack Australia depends on what the Russians did in round 1.  IF Russia is making a strong Asian stand (ie: if the Russian fighter was sent on the Manchurian attack and/or if 2 or more Russian INF were sent east in round 1) then I would agree with you:  Pull all Japan forces back to Japan proper, assault Manchuria with so much overwhelming force that Russia is basically totally defeated in the east, then move toward Moscow as described elsewhere.

However, if Russia did not attack Manchuria at all, or if their attack forces were not at maximum strength, or if Russia sent all available forces west to defend Karelia, then you do not have to send EVERYTHING against Russia.  In fact, “wasting” both battleships sitting in home waters is counter-productive to Japan’s openning strength:  navy.

Remember, the US has to stage forward to attack Japan, or any navy around Japan.  That means that Western US navy has to move to Hawaii (or Midway, or Wake, or SOMEWHERE forward of California) one round before it can attack Japan’s home waters (and that transport fleet you started building in round 1).  Japan has more than enough initial air power to counter any Round 1 US attack, and then you simply re-start building that transport fleet and move the Australian navy back toward home waters.  And if the US does stage forward, then the TWO Japan fleets pincer it, destroy it, and then keep building their transports to attack Russia and threaten Midway, Hawaii, and Alaska.

This is the part 2 of 2 of the UK. Lets get into it.

Australia, India, and (somewhat) Western Canada.
These will assist the US in attacking Japan.

      Australia:

Buy 1 armor, 2 fighters. Attack Papa New Guinea. After you attack Guinea place 1 inf. on it. Attack Borneo Celebs. Place a battleship on the shore of Borneo. Attack the West Indies. Place 1 armor on it.

      India:

Attack French Indo China Burma. Let the US place the pieces on it. Attack Kwatung. Place 1 inf. and 1 armor. Attack the Phillipines. Let US place the pieces on it.

      Western Canada:

Buy 1 inf., 1 fighter. Attack Okinawa. Place the infantry and the fighter to place on Okinawa.
That is all western canada does.

      I like F_alks plan:

Better follow my FAQ, valid for any nations:

      roll only ones win game

Could we insert a technology - roll the dice to receive “loaded” dice for the rest of the game?

Seriously, SS, I’m not meaning to be insulting or anything, but your FAQs do seem to lack on details and sometimes seems to not be possible with the rules of AaA. Check as Optorch suggested, are we talking about the same game or perhaps you could provide more details in your FAQs?

If nothing else, throw out a segment of these and ask for comments from the AaA community - would this be a good idea? what are the benefits/drawbacks for this? how can this strat be countered?…

Welcome once again to my Faqs about How to Be… I see my other 2 ( Japan and Germany) were a hit. There is part 1 because this one is about how to beat Germany then one how to beat Japan. So here is the UK. US and USSR will take some time.
The UK has a big advantage on Germany because the UK can to a hard hit on Norway, Germany, Western Europe, Southern Europe, Algeria, and Libia. Also this will increase so much of Income it isnt funny.

Attack Norway. This will help in the long run. Attack Africa. This will stop the advancement of the Afrika Korps big time. This will also have an advantage on Southern Europe. Attack Southern Europe. Then you can start the “pinch” manuver. You have Norway and Southern Europe this will destroy Europe. Attack Western Europe. Read on to see what this will do. Attack Eastern Europe. This will do a 4-way pinch.
Leave Ukraine SSR to Russia. Attack Germany. You now win Germany with the help of Russia.

      Upcoming:
      1 Germany
      2 Japan
      3 UK part 1
      4 UK part 2 ( October 12, 2005)
      5 USA part 1 ( October 14, 2005)
      6 USA part 2 ( October 17, 2005)
      7 Russia ( October 18, 2005)

You can’t realistically take a shot at the US till mid-game.

      Here’s why.

J1 (Pearl assualt and taking of HI).

US 1 - buy 10 inf place on WUS.

J2 - what are you going to do assualt Mex, or Pan, or Ala???

US 2 - move 10 inf to W can, buy 10 inf place on WUS.

      J3 - now what???

US 3 - buy trans and inf. Trans to EUS.

The US can still assault WE on Rd 4 (to back up the brits)
and Japan will never ever be able to get beyond owning Ala or Hi.

You have to wait till the US fleet has left the Pac and they have commited to Ger. (after rd 4 or 5).

In the meantime on J1-J5, you must take Chi, Sin, Ind, SFE, and be in position to take/trade Kaz, Eve, and Novo.

Now if you want to take a shot a Hi, Ala, and maybe sneak someone to Mex or Pan, maybe you can catch the US napping, but any attempt to early, and you could be inviting trouble.

Germany will have no ships after UK 1, so worrying about UK or US is futile.

You must claim what you can in Afr early on (rds 1-3), without sacrificing too much from Europe, so you can keep constant pressure on Russia early.

Southern Europe, Italy Far East, and Libya```

This is good but the territory you list wont work because Italy didnt own any territory in Afrika except Lybia.

Italian Territories that could be made to have value: In any case the values of aggregate Italian owned land should not exceed 15-22 points

Italy north and south–north=5 south=5-7 IPC

      Sicily–2

      Albania–1

      Sardinia–1

      Lybia–3

thats the extent of Italian land interests in 1942, unless you allow German aid to italy (say up to 5-6 points per turn).

Quite right… BTW i remember playing you on the zone about 4-5 years ago when you could actually play on MSN game zone and not have any glitches. I dont forget a name…

ON the paradrop issue these chaps landed with bren guns and had little in the way of sustaining a major attack. Apart from their surprise factor i dont see then having much in the way of attributes, certainly not the ability to drop in a take a country all in a days work. On another note its probably a good idea to require each player to garrison each controlled territory that was formerly enemy occupied. Call this the “partisan” rule or perhaps some anti- paratrooper thing, but it is probably more realistic than dropping a Dieppe down on Italy or the Balkans, when the allies are still trying to sustain themselves in africa.
