      @-Wolverine-:

      If, lets say, Italy captures a territory, may Germany land in its next turn?  Or must the territory be held for an entire round before that can occur?

      Yeah, Germany can land there.  The only time planes can’t land there is if it was just taken by that nation that turn (not the entire round).

    • RE: Mixing units?

      Well, artillery make infantry a lot more effective at attacking.  Essentially you’re purchasing a unit with 3 attack and 2 defense for 4 IPCs (assuming you have extra infantry).  Mech. infantry are good for getting places quickly - they’re more situational but they can be useful under some circumstances.

      Which rules are you using (OOB, A2, or A3)?

      What is each nation doing or trying to do?

      The number on the board (and the numbers found in unit value lists and such) represent what that unit hits on.  If you roll its number or lower, you score a hit that the enemy will have to apply to its troops after that combat round. So an infantry hits on a 1 when attacking, or a 2 or 1 when paired with an artillery, or a 2 or 1 when defending.

      @Axisplaya:

      Is there any situation where you’re allowed to build a boat in a hostile sea zone ?

      I’m pretty sure you can always build in hostile sea zones (assuming you have an IC, obviously).

      @c64:

      I still haven’t figured out why people use alpha rules for AAE1940 at all. Are the OOB rules broken or is there something wrong with them ?

      The only thing I can think of for Europe is the Alpha rules significantly improve scrambling.

      You’re right, moralecheck, and Ruanek is wrong.

      Sorry, I misunderstood the rules and how they related to the map.  I forgot that Japan has territories next to Mongolia.

      @moralecheck:

      Perfect thanks.  So if Russia attacks Japan from a territory border mongolia, then mongolia will not activate at all, even if Japan pushes back into Russia.

      Except if when Japan pushes back into Russia that includes a territory next to Mongolia.

      @JamesAleman:

      To Jen: regarding my earlier post. Do I understand the rule correctly, USSR fighters may only be shot at 3 times regardless of the number of German AA guns present. They are capped at 3 shots per gun AND capped at the total number of enemy planes….thus 3 USSR air would only be shot at 3 times independent of the number of defensive aaguns.

      I’m not Jen, but I can still answer.

      Each AA gun essentially adds 3 to the max number of attacking planes that can be shot at.  No plane can ever be shot at more than once by AA in a round.  So if the attacker has 3 or less planes, then any more than 1 AA gun is relatively worthless (except for being taken as a casualty).

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

      @FiveAces:

      Just finished a game in which there was some dispute over what an “operational” facility meant in original Global rules. Situation was UK builds a naval base on their turn in British Columbia which the US uses immediately on their turn to move to Japan and destroy about 50% of the Japanese fleet. Newly built factories are unable to produce units on the turn they are built, they only become operational at the beginning of the building player’s next turn. Would think the same logic would apply to a naval base or air base. Searched the rules and forums and couldn’t find any answers. Thanks for the help.

      I was under the impression that they became operational after that turn - they just can’t be used the turn they’re built (but can be used by other powers on their turns because it’s after the initial nonoperational turn).

      It’s the Allied IPC total because generally the other Allies don’t contribute to the Russian front.  They often make periodic attacks on Germany/Italy, though.

    • RE: Has anyone planned to attack the true neutrals?

      Germany needs 8 VCs to win.  It starts with 4 (if you count Paris, which they should always get quickly), and Russia has 3 more.  Then there’s Cairo, London, Ottawa, and DC. If Germany ignored Russia it would have to take every other VC on the Europe map, which includes two capitals (no easy feat) and crossing the Atlantic (also rather difficult).  It can be done, sure, but it’s a lot harder generally than just taking the ones in Russia.

      @Gargantua:

      Hell of a good report.

      I think you’ve got this…  You’ll nickel and dime out those AA guns on the eastern front before you know it.  And maybe your opponent will build more!

      So I should stay the course and move into Russia without sealion?

      Yeah.  You need some VCs in Russia to win as Germany.  You don’t need London - you can get all the ones in Russia and Cairo instead.  You can still cripple the UK economically with subs and stuff.

      @Cmdr:

      But Sea Lion is still viable.  The only difference is that England does not have to abandon the entire world to make Sea Lion hard on the Germans, now they can engage on the global scale I think they were always intended to work on and not have to figure Germany is going to murder them if they dont give up their attacks on Africa, Med and give up their fleet.

      Yeah, I didn’t present my point clearly.  Sea Lion is still viable, but it’s not as easy or necessary.

      @manincellv:

      @Cmdr:

      It didnt really come from nowhere.  We’ve been complaining to Larry for a while that Sea Lion was too easy.  Instead of giving you infantry, he put some aa guns in and then nerfed them so they were far weaker against planes than before.

      Sealion should always be a longshot for Germany.  The game needs to favor the Allies.  As it did historically.  Germany will have its shot at winning, but it will come down to the Eastern Front, not Sealion.  I totally agree with Larry, Sealion should not happen.  Germany did not have the navy to conduct the invasion across the channel. Their best hope was destroying UK’s economic resources.

      The game doesn’t need to favor a side.  (And it’s tricky to say that history favored the Allies, when the change of a single person could have meant German victory - that being their supreme military commander.)  And Sea Lion was possible - Germany just made a few mistakes and got unlucky with the enigma and stuff.  The main thing is there shouldn’t ever be a single strategy that will almost always work and be hard to stop, such as the Alpha + .2 Sea Lion.

    • RE: UK1 Options in Alpha 2

      @JimmyHat:

      You’re so right Ruanek….wonder if China can get more than 1 unit hitting 33% of the time.  Oh yeah they can build an army that does it.  So, 15 units hitting at 33% or 1 unit hitting at 50%.   My point being that Chinese ftr is relatively powerless.

      That Chinese fighter is worth more than anything China can ever build.  And it’s irreplaceable.  And as Gargantua said, its movement is useful.

      @JimmyHat:

      For me reliability is in mass numbers.  The more dice I roll the more likely I am to have an ‘average’ result over all the dice.  So 1 50% hit vs 10 33% hits for example….

      1 50% adds a lot more to the average than 1 33%.

    • RE: How to bid on a nation basis?

      Bidding can be done a few different ways, but my understanding of it is that generally it’s in terms of units.  So with a bid of 5 IPCs that nation could get an AA gun (I guess that’s it) anywhere they already have units or get less and bank whatever’s left.  Only the starting setup is affected.  With multiple nations I guess it’s the bidder’s choice how to split it.

      The main issue is there are probably a ton of people out there who own AAG40 (or just Europe or Pacific) and don’t know how broken it is and don’t know where to get more balanced rules.

      @Krieghund:

      since United Kingdom is not an island.

      The UK is not an island?  Interesting, considering that it is smaller than a lot of US states and totally surrounded by water.  Hard to find a spot in the UK more than 100 miles from the coast.

      And why the limit on the number of planes scrambled?

      The A&A definition of an island is a territory completely surrounded by a single sea zone.  Since the UK has multiple sea zones around it, it isn’t an island in A&A.

      The limit is probably to make it harder for nations with a lot of planes (e.g. Japan) to scramble a huge force to defeat attacking fleets.
