    • RE: German Sub Strat.

what aim does this german-sub-strat include? i am not clear about your intentions, so i ask.

i also was thinking about a german preparation with lots of subs just for stalling the american approach towards europe. which means, in G5 you should be ready and in the position to attack an american navy right before gibraltar. this very navy can get there in earliest at USA4.

and this means that you´ll have to fight probably a fleet consisting of the destroyer and transport of the beginning and 105 IPC additional buys. i guess minimum one carrier fully loaded, maybe cruisers or a battleship, for sure more destroyers, transports, subs as cannon-fodder.

without any landing zone for german aircrafts, this is going to be suicidal. but with 10+ subs and minimum 3 strategic bombers there could be inflicted serious damage. but this means you´ve spended some 100IPC only in naval buys, which means russia is safe!

well, for me this strat is not working. the US cannot effectively delayed, can it?

    • RE: Out of Box or Alpha 2?

til today only played oob. to me it makes no sense to change that, since “killer-strategies” (strategies with 100%-garanteed wins) are not found yet in neither version.

    • RE: Crete & Cyprus

as italy i got attacked by uk and uk-planes landed on cyprus. kind of annoying those islands. that´s why i occupy them if necessary just for protecting unprotected italian transports. helped a lot letting survive them.

but: it is no standard move to get these islands, though the denial of the NO is a good point to consider… :D

    • RE: Some defensive russia advice

      @Frontovik:

than you give up your german navy…
i invest first round an AC too, together with the sub.
the one transport can give some support to the army, aswell keep the north
troosp from finland can never reach moscow in time (round G6)
i liek tacticals too, but you need core of tanks, preferably bought with french money

yeah, eventually. if the uk-player is looking after the german fleet, then italy is free to do in the mediterranian whatever it wants to. so, this sacrifice is it worth. italy can harass the uk in africa then and only needs to send some 3 or 4 mechs with a tank to the east (helping to get novogorod). getting greece (maybe leaving that to germany), s.france etc. just buying time and preparing to defend against the usa, which means: occupying gibraltar.
as germany i had minimum 12 tanks in play! kind of a huge hammer… :D

so as russia: buying mostly inf, just for delaying the german eastward-progression, buying time is once again the only task to fullfill. but with faster units, germany has a big advantage for almost 5 or 6 rounds of play. just imagine: >20 mech, some inf, >5 art, >12 tank, 3 fighter, 3 tacticals coming to you every round attacking mostly only one territory. reinforcements like >13 mech coming to secure occupied territories etc. it is devastating.
therefor, i think, counter-attacks are not advised. only then, if you can hold the retaken lands or as strafing ones.
and the aim is allways moscow. if you manage to stack >50 inf and tanks and planes it should take a while to get it, right?

    • RE: Some defensive russia advice

      it is for OOB!

i don´t know if it works in global, too, but in europe 1940 it worked quite well. maybe you can call it full-scale-barbarossa: i bought from the first round on only mech and tanks. an occasional sub to deny the no-sub-NO, but mostly mech.
      G1: 6 mech, 1 sub (30 IPC)
      G2: 1 inf, 2 art, 3 tank, 8 mech (61 IPC)
      G3: 3 inf, 13 mech
attack on G4 with a can-opener by italy in east poland to land mostly all german aircraft there. mass all troops there, too. conquer karelia, vyborg, baltic-states and bessarabia.

the subsequent rounds your buys should cover actual situations, which means paying more attention to the uk und the usa, of course. But, mostly buying mech is helping a lot. i can only speak for myself so far, but i had been amazed by the cumulative power of a mostly-mech-buy sake of speeding up the german play by faster troops as mech an tanks in combination with fighter and tactical bombers.
russia gets under higher pressure and needs to give up certain territories to secure defense. Novogorod fell in G5 without problems, but italy has to make sure to clean up the baltic-states, which means mech-buys for italy, too.
even, if the allies start to harass germany on the continent, you can cover a vast territory with mech-supported-forces for defensive and offensive purposes.

this said, it is really worth 4 IPCs! :D

i hope it helped you a bit.

sieht so aus, als wärst du absolut begeistert vom spiel. höchste töne etc. ;) gehe ich mit, wenn ich vielleicht auch nicht so euphorisch bin. :D

@ drmckool: it is mostly a description of the game, apearing to be made for beginners. he is quite stoked of this game, so it seems.

actually, until alpha doesn´t become beta becoming official, i won´t change anything yet. it is interesting enough to play OOB and to discover the map´s “secrets”.

    • German NOs (OOB), US and UK NOs

i have looked, but didn´t find any answer, so i post it here (again?).
its for oob-games only, please no alpha-stuff related comment here. ;)

on page 23 there is written:
      germany
“5 IPC if Axis powers control either novgorod or volgograd.”

does it mean, that the german player can get up to 10 IPC when controlling both cities?

      United kingdom/United states

“collect a one-time payment of 5 IPCs if the first time UK/USA forces capture or liberate one of the following territories: normandy, holland or western germany.”

does it mean, that UK/USA can gain up to 15 IPCs or maximum 5 IPCs? for me as not a native speaker of english it is not quite clear.
if someone as UK or USA captures holland he gains 5 IPCs. okay, but when the same player occupies normandy next round or in the same round. what is then? etc.

      the same with USA.

thanx for the answers in advance.

    • RE: Is there anyone building ICs in the game?

and how did it work? did you conquer russia?

it is kind of really hard to do so, i think. everytime i tried i got stuck in belarus or ukraine.
can you post a general outline of your strategy, please

      thanx in advance

    • Is there anyone building ICs in the game?

until now, in my games of europe1940 nobody actually has built an IC. it seemed like anyone would get cancer or anything like that if he´d dare to! :D

but i think there are some interesting options for every party in this game, except russia, because she has no spare money. especially in situations where a party´s navy is frequently contested and so it becomes cheaper just building an IC and troops then.

i am not sure about it, that´s why i only offer possible options, but i would like to see some thoughts of you then about them.

      big thanx in advance

    • Tank blitzing etc.

      hello,

i have one question regarding tanks and blitzing.

is it possible for a tank to move as a combat-move into an empty territory one step and use the another step to go into a friendly territory in the non-combat-movement?

(possible example: a russian tank from bessarabia goes into an unoccupied romania. after that in the ncm-phase to yugoslavia activating it.)

      thanx in advance

interesting way to document a game. i liked it a lot.

but i did not understand, why the british home-fleet not got sunk in G1, or why rome got captured twice. no wonder italy had been in decline!

    • What about iceland?

did anyone think about an invasion of iceland as axis? this way you get very near to the american continent, have an island where parked fighters can scramble from, and in combination with subs a dedicated german player can inflict some heavy damage to british or us fleets.

      any opinions?

    • RE: Sealion Version 1.0

this is what i mean: you are forced to buy things you, maybe, don´t want to buy.
uk takes out some destroyer. so you rebuy one as italy, have to place it at the capital. (cannnot move those unit, actually). in this manner the way for the us CAN be freed of any italian block. if not, then your builds and moves have been wise ones. ;)

the other way round, an italian navy can support quite well a german sealion by protecting the needed transporters etc.

    • RE: Lessons Learned Global 1940

if the british have a carrier in the mediterranian or can move one in, a fighter from the uk can reach most seazones there (only exceptions are seazone 96, 98, 99). this can be the tip for the british to win a naval battle against italy. (as it happened to me  :D)

german fighters and tacticals can help defend italian positions in africa quite well.

move some german subs into the med to go through the suez and eventually threat british transports there.

help each other out. “small” maneuvers often achieve this.

go via western africa with germany and eastern africa with italy to crush the british in africa effectively.

without any unprovoked attack against the US etc. there are FOUR turns, actually, for the axis to beat down the uk in europe or china in asia AND to move into best strategic positions to gain more income via conquest and subsequently NOs.

best one: possibilities are more threatening than not! (i.e. imagine a german invasion fleet at gibraltar with gibraltar hold by the axis: half the atlantic is covered…)
