      @Veqryn:

      Djensen has very good reasons for not allowing signatures.  Mostly because it interrupts the page flow and the conversation.
      Everything that is in a signature (a picture, some text) can be done using your “avatar” and the text under your avatar.  You see this to the left of posts, therefore it does not interrupt the page flow and conversation.
      I 100% agree with Djensen on this, and think it is a very good policy that more forums should implement.

      Agreed.  Signatures clutter things up too much, especially when they’re long.

      Italy is sure taking a pounding, and Germany not getting that extra money to use against a fully-powered USSR is hurting them.  This should offset any USA/China/ANZAC loss in a Global game.  We’ll see what happens.

      Lol no I think you misunderstood me. I ment do you think we could make rules for a game like this even if it never happened. Like I said you could just commit small numbers and pieces to the game.

      Yeah thats what I thought. I mean when I got Pacfic I thought oh thats so cool! Now I can have battles on all these iconic islands like in the Pacific theater. But for most except for those involved in NOs their useless. This would make island warfare more important.

      @JamesAleman:

      I’ve brought the Bell-Fey expression into my gaming group. Soon the Midwest will know the term and you can look for it on local news channels…for instance, weathermen might say, I guess that it is not going to snow after all, I guess I Bell-Feyed that forecast. :)

      Excellent expansion of the word.  I can see powerful forces are already at working taking this expression (a “Belfay”) and expanding it to other fields.

      I would propose that it could be used in sports also.  Such as the Chicago Bears pulling a “Belfay” in the NFC Championship game by not really showing up to play Green Bay.

      We’ve done weather and sports, who else can help to embed the term “pulled a Belfay” into pop culture?  Anyone have ins with Lady Gaga?

      Imperious LeaderI

      just because USA has more capacity, doesn’t mean it can produce units cheaper.
      Quote
      Reduction in cost per unit resulting from increased production, realized through operational efficiencies.

      THAT is what ‘economies of scale’ mean.  Operational efficiencies can be view in terms of {technological} improvements in manufacturing procedures.  Procedures do not necessarily require robots.  Better Rivets (materials) or better training (labor) or better materials delivery systems (just in time) are all realized without robots.

      These efficiencies come at a higher economic cost. They are not born out of low income economies. Just look at how many small economies can produce battleships at a lower cost than a larger economy. They don’t exist if you compare quality. If you can show me an example thats fine. The largest economies can do this mush more effectively than a smaller economy, so “economies of scale” also has the meaning that the greater investment of money will necessarily lead to a greater efficiency of effort.

      “refers to the cost advantages that a business obtains due to expansion. There are factors that cause a producer’s average cost per unit to fall as the scale of output is increased.”

      I look at this as the more income you got for investment, the greater the potential for economies of scale. So to me these are built in factories assumed by the larger, burgeoning economies in the game.

      “…since some economies of scale may require a larger market than is possible within a particular country — for example, it would not be efficient for Liechtenstein to have its own car maker, if they would only sell to their local market.”

      Another indication. Italy in the game would be less capable of this compared to USA or Germany.

      Perhaps rather than a tech for every 20 IPC lead the combined axis or allies have over the other side receives a -1 cost benefit for naval. that would model “economies of scale” a bit better IMO rather than paying some dude in a white lab coat 5 IPC to “invent” a cash poor nations way of getting cheaper battleships, when another nation much larger is somehow paying a 20% markup for the same battleship but has 3 times to economy to do it.

      We have to agree to disagree.

      But why play OOB.  It’s unbalanced.

      @robbie358:

      I suppose I should’ve called this thread “MY own personal questions about A&A rules answered in vague terms by other users who don’t contribute questions of thier own” instead of putting anything about the official FAQ on it.

      So how exactly do I explain to the other people I play A&A with about everyone’s two-cent rules clarifications if it’s not in an FAQ from Wizards?

      If you want an official answer, use the G40 FAQ

      @Hobbes:

      UK takes Denmark, then a US transport fleet loaded with ground units crosses the straits and lands directly on Germany.

      The solutions are to retake Denmark with the Italians, fortify Denmark or keep units for defense in Germany.

      IMHO to keep at stack of 10+ inf in Denmark is a bad idea.

      In case UK take Denmark and US is in position to sail through, the best solution will be to let Italy retake Denmark before US turn. Italy can build some Tanks and Mech in Northern Italy each turn, to use as can opener in Russia or to retake Denmark together with a few Italian infantry stationed in Western Germany and 3 + fighters from Italy.

      Also in your Europe game, turn 1 you downgraded the major French factory to a minor. Isn’t that a Global rule, and not a Europe one?

      ?

      @WILD:

      In AA50, France has an AA gun only in the later (42) set up. They don’t get one in the 41 set up. Maybe they felt that Germany over time set up more AA def then what France had originally? It does seem kinda weird that a world power like France that knew the Germans were eventually going to attack, wouldn’t have better AA def though. It must be for game play, if the French had an AA gun they would have had to bump the Luftwaffe to account for it. This would have made the Euro game out of balance compared to the Pac as far as air (yea I am joking).  Maybe it had something to do with France surrendered before the German’s sacked the capital, and they left their AA gun in Paris (LOL).

      France may have had a large army at the time, but its command structure had not changed much from WW I, and in fact some of the generals in charge were WW I holdovers. I believe Gamelin set up his headquarters in a remote castle without telegraph lines.
      And of course, they thought that the Maginot line was going to do the defending for them.
