    • RE: What Do Do With French Units (F1) That Survive German Attack

KillO, I think you’re probably right.  I’m just clueless as to why people just HAVE to hit the UK navy turn 1 at the cost of sending those planes into France.  Then you wonder why you lose everything.
I’d rather the British survive (minus their destroyers) and keep all my mech and tanks for Russia, but that would just make too much sense.

And hurry up and post here before the topic gets sent to “House Rules”.

Guy, I didn’t lose the French fighter in the UK.  You can see it in the pic.  The point of the attack was taking out the German tank, taking the territory was just a bonus because he missed with his tank on defense.  Also, I’d rather play Alpha3, but it wasn’t my choice.

Cenator, Germany goes right after France, so I wouldn’t have had a shot.  First because the UK planes were tied up destroying German subs, and 2nd because Italy goes after UK and could finish the French before they had thier turn.  I did not expect to have that tank left.  The pic was taken right before the German Turn 2.

    • What Do Do With French Units (F1) That Survive German Attack

We played an Alpha2 game in San Diego on Sunday, right?

So on Sunday I’m playing as USSR/France and the German player, after consulting the Alpha2 opening moves charts failed to send even two planes at France, and split his ground troops between France and Normandy.  France survived with a tank left, and he was forced to retreat to Belgium from Normandy, leaving the French tank and UK fighter.  He only had a tank left in both France and Belgium.

What should I have done with the French tank at that point?  I ended up just hitting Belgium with the tank and fighter from UK.  (see picture below)  Should I have gone for the liberation of Paris instead?  I didn’t want to give Germany another 14 IPCs of French money, but that would be countered by the 4 infantry I’d get for the NO, and the losses he’d endure retaking it.  Oh, and I’d have to sacrifice the fighter, since France is 3 spaces away from UK.

What do you think?  Take the risk for Paris or the conservative road and take Belgium?

    • RE: Players in San Diego

You’re homeboy from San Clemente won’t make it?  Besides, there might be others on here that may come.
As far as Alpha, I figured the latest version is what everyone is playing, but I’ll go with the majority vote.

And, you know, ‘San Diego’ in the original German means ‘a whale’s vagina’.

    • RE: Players in San Diego

Alrighty, everyone.  Looks like we’re on for Global '40 Alpha+3 on Sunday, June 17th.  The place is Game Towne at 3954 Harney St, San Diego, CA.  They open at 11am so that’s when I’ll start setup.  Show by noon, please.  If everyone all agrees we’ll do random nation selection.
It’ll be USSR/France and USA/China vs. Germany and Japan.  UK/ANZAC and Italy by discretion unless we have a 5th or 6th player.
      See you all then!

    • RE: Battleplans

I’m trying to decide which way the German Atlantic submarine is going to go.
Probably every game it will just take out the undefended US transport, but it can cause much move havoc should an enterprising Germany player get lucky and sink that UK destroyer and transport with it.
      What do you think?

I’m down for whatever.  My girlfriend lives down in San Diego.  Pair-A-Dice games in Vista has alot of table space if we can find a non-Magic night, and it’s a shorter drive for us in the OC crowd.  We should start a mailing list or something.

    • RE: Looking for players in MN

      Hey, GLK.
Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner, we ended up not playing that night.
Anyways, MMGA Recon is next Saturday, March 3rd starting at 10am lasting until 11pm.
It’s $7 at the door, but there’s typically 12-15 A&A players there playing Global '40 or Spring '42.
      Hope to see you there!

    • RE: German U-boat blockade

      Two things:
      1)  The fact that destroyers in this game attack and defend at 3 and still have anti-sub abilities makes them far batter than subs.  If the US builds 3 destroyers per turn, the Atlantic falls to the Allies pretty quickly.
      2)  I like the fact that you build subs with Germany, but this means letting up a bit on the Russian front.  A good USSR player will build artillery and attack any force that approaches Moscow with 40-50 2’s plus converted Allied planes and 5 tanks.  If you don’t consistently build 30+ IPCs to send against the USSR you will not win there.  Try and capture the Middle East and use that money for subs.

All this being said, Germany is at a disadvantage in the USSR.  I’d be willing to show anyone this,  if they let me play Russia.

      HAHA, April Fools in September

For real, though, this wont we the game they play next year at GenCon, so I won’t play it that much between now and then.

    • RE: Moving to Illinois any player?

First off, it’s spelled Charleston, IL.
Second, I used to live in Champaign, but I have to say there isn’t much gaming around there.
If you’re ever up in Champaign, go to The Dragon’s Table and tell John (owner/operator) you’re into A&A.
There’s anything going on he’ll know about it.
They play alot of board games, and occasionally you can talk someone into a game.

In the meantime, GenCon here I come!

    • RE: GenCon Indy 2011 Global '40

I’m gonna be there Friday for A&A, I have a ticket for Global at 8AM.  I’m also playing War at Sea minis and Thursday I’m into the Star Trek CCG.
Don’t really have plans after that.  Prolly all A&A Global 40.

    • GenCon Indy 2011 Global '40

So as I understand it there will not be a Global tournament at GenCon this year?
The schedule only has tourneys for 50th, 1942, and 2nd Edition.
All this time I spent playing Global '40 was for nothing?  Not even Europe 40 or Pacific 40 tourneys?

    • RE: No National Objectives or Political Rules

Italy is sure taking a pounding, and Germany not getting that extra money to use against a fully-powered USSR is hurting them.  This should offset any USA/China/ANZAC loss in a Global game.  We’ll see what happens.

    • No National Objectives or Political Rules

We’re trying a game of Global '40 up here in our Minnesota A&A group.

This time we’re seeing how the game plays with noone getting NO’s and everyone starting out at war with each other.

Now we’re playing with OOB Victory Conditions, but I think I’d like to see how it plays out if we split conditions for each map as well.
I’m just afraid that without the +30 for USA, Honolulu falls way easy and the Axis win.

I’ll report back to you all.
