    • RE: Chinese Fighter Rule question

      @knp7765:

We have dabbled with a house rule where if China controls all the Chinese territories, then Chinese forces can venture past Chinese borders. That would mean the Chinese fighter could fly out, attack Japanese ships then fly back to China. The main reason was certain games where Japan was busy at sea or something and the Chinese managed to capture all Chinese territories. This ends up with a large amount of Chinese troops staging in Manchuria yet due to the rules they can not advance into Korea. That just seems silly to me.

If you’re using this house rule, you should add one where IF China reclaims its capital, it has to build industrial complexes in order to place units normally, and loses its “build anywhere” ability.  It only makes sense, if you’re going to allow them to leave China.  It can keep the bonus for the road, but not build other types of units due to the Chinese Civil War.  Just an idea.

    • RE: 42.2 opponents wanted

You know I want to play.  I just got done with '42.2 against djensen earlier today.  He was prepping for Gencon.

I’m down, but I have nowhere to set the game up and leave it.

ANZAC conquers all.  At least it does in my games.  ANZAC is to the USA as Italy is to Germany… the secret weapon.
Ever try the Bielefeldt maneuver?  ANZAC takes Brazil and builds a minor there!

So is anyone showing up this Sunday?  If you come, lock your car up good.  My window got smashed and my computer stolen last week.

Went there today.  Noone showed up for A&A so I got into a game of Crown Of Roses.  Plenty of game space.  They’re usually about 10-7 so no time for Global '40.  We could always play Europe or Pacific.  I’m planning on being there on the 16th…

      Hey guys,

The website for Endgame in Oakland says they host Historical Warhaming every other Sunday at 10am.  I’m gonna prolly check that out.  If you stop by you can check out my awesome A&A '40 set.

Hey Karl, nice to meet you.
I’m already here.  Right now I’m at a hotel in San Jose.  I’m living out of my car until I find a place to rent.  I stopped into a game store in Fremont, but it was all Euro games.  I went to places in Berkeley and Santa Clara but they didn’t have tables.
I got nothing going on so far this weekend.  Let me know.  I’d like to find someplace I could setup the board and leave it.

    • San Francisco Bay Area players

      Hello,

I’m moving to the Palo Alto / Santa Clara area and I need to find new people to play A&A with.  I mostly play the 1940 games, but I’m down for any version from 1st ed. to 1914.  Even play minis.  I understand theres KublaCon, but it’s once a year.

I have all my own sets.  Look forward to talking A&A.  If you’re a n00b I can teach.

    • RE: Orange County, California - Axis & Allies and/or TripleA - Face-to-Face Only

I’m down.  I live in San Clemente.  I also have a friend here who plays, but he may be burned out a bit after the tournament we were just in this weekend.
We really only play Global '40, but a fun game of '41 isn’t unheard of.
      Let me know what’s up.

    • RE: LOTR Risk

I’m glad you were able to find people to play with over there.  Team Risk is far superior to the OOB version.  Maybe they’ll come out with Hobbit Risk this year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everyone.

    • RE: Beginner advice for convoying: We've never used it, how well does it work?

When your enemy has ships in your convoy zone, you get less money that turn.  Unless you destroy them.

      Easy peasy, lemon squeasy.

To make this FAR more freakin’ complicated than it has to be…

There are three spaces on the board that border two (2) convoy zones apiece.  I assume that if enemy ships are in both convoy zones the disrupter chooses which zone to disrupt the territory from.  The other ships would then be free to convoy other territories.
Also that you must’nt have ships in both zones to disrupt.
Also, any single ship may disrupt multiple times in one turn, if different allied (lowercase) powers control different territories bordering said sea zones.

The old rule was that every surface warship disrupts 1IPC each and every submarine 2IPCs each with an optional rule that specifically German submarines disrupt 3IPCs each.
They changed this to reflect an element of chance, and also made carriers more powerful for purposes of convoy disrupts.

I hope this completely obfuscates things for you.  I also hope I’m using that word correctly.

    • Star Wars Lives!

Now that George Lucas has thoroughly destroyed my beloved Star Wars with his accursed prequels and special editions, I thought all hope was lost.

Disney announced today they had bought Lucasfilm and are planning three more Star Wars movies, numbered 7, 8, and 9.

One can only dream of the possibilities.  Might we see the original, untouched Star Wars trilogy on Blu-ray?  Might we see Mark Hammil and Harrison Ford in the new trilogy?  Can they make up for these past 13 years of torment with three awesome new movies?

      Your thoughts, please.

    • RE: The Axis Advantage is Bigger Than You Think.

For purposes of this post I’ll assume you mean 2nd edition.

I agree, but I don’t do bids on principle.  I’d rather find a house rule that benefits the Allies in some way.

    • RE: RIP Amanda Todd

It makes me happy in some small way to see you guys support me on this.

I don’t know why this affects me so much, I never even met her.  Maybe it’s because I never will.  I’ll never get the chance to hug her or tell her how brave she was.

Thanks for the invitation to talk, Gar.  I’ll take you up on that someday when I have the chance to reflect a bit.

I’m 100% proof positive absolutely convinced of one thing.  I know this isn’t what she wanted.  I’m sure she’d rather go the beach and play volleyball with me tomorrow morning than be dead.  “The dead know only one thing, it is better to be alive.”

      @Gargantua:

I know for a fact this girl had other options, and if anything is clear, her choice to commit suicide is -exactly- what she wanted to do.

This action is dissappointing and disgusting, as is the parenting involved, and the actions of those who bullied and contributed to this tragedy.

But three wrongs and more don’t make a right. They just make a stupid. And calling your mom to confirm she’s not going to be home until 8, so you can hang yourself in her closet is a cowards move I refuse to feel sympathetic for.

Wow.  Blame the victim, doesn’t get more classy than that.  “Coward”, eh?  I’m tempted to tell you to sit 'n spin, but I’ll take the high ground here.  Noone deserves what she went through.  Have you even seen the garbage they put on facebook about her?  Signs saying “Drink Clorox, Amanda Todd does”.  That jerk that slept with her derserves a fist in his face, not to mention the guy that flashed her tits all over the net.  If you were half a man you’ld hold him for me.

The fact that I even dignify your post with a response makes me want to vomit.

I’ll be praying for her and her family while you shrug it all off.

This girl killed herself on Wednesday.  School and Cyber bullying has to come to an end.  As God is my witness it will.

      Three.

One in the Texas School Book Depository, one in either the Dal-Tex building or the Public Records Building, and one either behind the picket fence or (more recently due to computer analysis) from the sewer drain below the knoll on the north side of Elm St.

If you ever walk Dealey Plaza, you’ll see that sewer drain as the perfect place to hit the president from.

7 wounds from one bullet.  David Ferrie drove 350 miles to Houston (in a thunderstorm) to go ice skating that day.  What was the Warren Commission smoking I wonder?

    • RE: LOTR Risk

I’ve had this game for awhile, and we just started playing it again.  I was Mallery29’s good-guy partner in the games he’s talking about.

We play the Team Risk variant, which is a ridiculous amount of fun for all involved.  Good guys try to destroy the ring, bad guys try to find it.

I run the game at conventions sometimes, and I’ve never had an empty seat.  People love Lord Of The Rings and people love Risk.
