    • RE: Is "scrambling" to powerful?

i like the idea of scrambling fighters to defend sea zones…

To me…it makes it a little more difficult to attack sea zones around islands that have enemy ships in it…

example: USA  (2) Battleships and (1) Destroyer
      attack
Japan: (1) Destroyer and (1) Transport

      Phillipines sea zone…

now lets say Japan has two fighters on the island…

Japan has the option of scrambling to protect his ships in the zone or letting them stay on the island to defend against an Amphib assault…

Plus…knowing aircraft on an island with an airbase can scramble…might make you change your strategy a little…

remember…the island must have an airbase in order for aircraft to scramble…and the territory must be an island in a sea zone…not a coastal territory…

      I believe thats the rule…

    • RE: Do you typically buy additional tac-bombers besides what is in the setup?

to me…the US is probably the best buyers of tac bombers…I have bought them as USA…never as Japan or the UK/ANZAC…

The Tac Bomber u buy if you are going on the offensive…I cant see it as a defensive buy becuz the fighter is better at defense then the TAC…

However…i do like the unit…attacking at a 4 or less without using a battleship does have its advantages…

    • RE: Taking Western US

i will admit…if Japan takes Western US…Japan basically wins the game…they will get all the IPCs that the USA has at that time which will be at least 50…and i doubt the US would be able to get back in the game…and meanwhile…the UK and ANZACs would be crying if the US fell anyway…

    • RE: UK/ANZAC T2 attack, and a question

My first game i had Japan attack on turn 2…i still say this was best time to hit the allies…managed to destroy a large part of the British and US fleets and take a chunk of china…

But as i always say…its what the dice do that determines your strategy for the next rounds…

cuz on turn three…all i rolled on my dice were fives and sixes and japan was on the defensive after that…

    • RE: Addtions to Germany's 1939 military

A larger navy I think would have given the Germans a better chance at engaging the Royal Navy In a fleet battle…one of the mistakes that Grand Admiral Raeder made during the Battle of the Atlantic…was that he wanted to use his surface forces as convoy raiders…i never believed in that strategy…although the German Navy wasn’t as large as the Royal Navy…they still could have done some major damage to the Queen’s warships…Maybe Hitler should have tried Plan Z after all…

i would have to say Stalingrad…this was the city with Stalin’s name on it…the BOSS would have been furious if his city was taken by Germany…he probably would have shot his entire general staff

    • RE: Which Battle Had a Greater Impact?

Midway!  When you lose FOUR of your FIRST line carriers…it becomes demoralizing.  The Japanese offensive in the Pacific ended at Midway…they suddenly had to go on the defensive starting at Guadalcanal!

    • 70TH ANNIVERSARY DISCUSSION (3) THE WINTER WAR 1939-40

Question:  In your opinions…how did Finland hold out against the superior numbers of the Soviet Army?  Was it because of the Finnish Ski troops that were specially trained in that type of warfare? Why is the Winter War so overlooked in the history of World War II?

      Looking forward to your answers…

    • RE: Favorite WWII Theaters

I like them all actually…each theater of war had its own atmosphere…

The Eastern Front:  Genocide on a grand scale…the greatest tank battles of the war (KURSK, KHARKOV)  and Operation Barbarossa…the ultimate attack plan…and of course Stalingrad…the ultimate turning point of the war

The Western Front: From the greatest evacuation in history (Dunkirk) to the greatest invasion in history (Normandy) to the greatest gamble in history (Bulge)…nothing like fighting on the Western Front

The North African Front:  Nothing like watching a Desert Fox claim victory wherever he went…ultimate battles such as Tobruk, Kasserine Pass, and El Alamein…and how British General Montgomery finally showed his brilliance…

The Mediterranean Front:  The drive under Europe’s soft underbelly…Sicilly, Salerno, Anzio…the great Italian Campaign and the word PATTON becomes a household name…

The Battle of the Atlantic:  U-boats, BISMARCK, SCHARNHORST, Convoy PQ-17, Operation Torch…need i say more?

The Pacific Theater:  Pearl Harbor, Midway, the Solomons, Leyte, to name a few basically the greatest naval war in history…

The China-Burma-India Theater:  The Burma road must stay open…the Flying Tigers and China’s plight against the Japanese…the most intense fighting in the Pacific War

      I know u only wanted a favorite,but where to choose…

BTW…LETS GIVE OUR THANKS TO THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO FOUGHT AND GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THESE THEATERS OF WAR…FOR WITHOUT THEM…WE WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO CHOOSE OUR FAVORITES

    • RE: Most Underrated WWII Leader

US Admiral Marc A. Mitcher…commander of the fast carrier task forces during the final battles of the Pacific War…his carriers seemed to be always in position to deal smashing blows to the Japanese Navy…and it was his task force that sent the Japanese superbattleship YAMATO to it’s final resting place at the bottom of the East China Sea…
