    • A&A Global Concerns

Hey everyone! This is my first post so go gentle.

I have a game group filled of close friends and family. Everyone loves the game and most have a background in turn based strategy games but not A&A specifically.

I played a lot back in law school (8 or 9 years ago) but not a tall since then. We picked up Axis and Allies Second Edition and played it a few times, everyone LOVED it. But we had such a large response to loving it from our buddies and family, we figured we needed something bigger and with more teams available.

So we moved on to Axis and Allies Global. Now, again, NONE of us have ever played Global…ever. I played regular A&A back in Law School and didn’t play again for 8 or 9 years.  After that time, we all started playing together. I am now 4-0 in our group games sense just starting to mess around with it. Everyone seems to grasp the concepts and again, all having background in strategy games, they understand basic strategy.

I have been Russia, Germany, Germany, Germany…We randomly roll immediately prior to each game. I just had a feeling I was going to get Germany AGAIN before last game so I suggested a rule where you can re-roll if you don’t want to be the same country in back to back games. I was out-voted by everyone else there because they say it’s “only fair way to do it is a totally random roll.” I was hoping to get ANZAC and take a step back and let the other less experienced guys play the big powers. But, again, I was outvoted.

The old game, when I was Russia, I took Berlin…And each game since Germany, both old and global, I have taken Moscow with Germany by turn 6 or 7 latest.

Are the Axis just THAT overpowered? Is it my friends lack of experience? A few of the guys are worried the game is imbalanced is Axis favor, however, I was quick to point out that the allies are very important to work in team unison. But not yet have they worked well together…

As I have yet to be the allies, correct me if I am wrong, but I would do the following:

      1. Build lots of transports in Eastern US Sea Zone to make Germany feel the oncoming heat at their backs (nobody has done that yet)
      2. Have USA and UK do strategic bombing raids on Germany Industrial Comples to slow down the mass production of tanks (nobody has done that yet)
      3. Have USA and UK use Fighters to defend Russia in key areas if there are a lot of infantry and can soak up hits while those high 4 or lessfighter defenses can really pound some German units if the battles go 2 or 3 rounds (nobody has done this).

Will these strategies work/help better than what has been happening?

What has happened thus far has been the following:

      1. Germany takes France turn 1
      2. Germany eliminates UK Navy turn 1 using all available ships, subs and planes.
      3. Germany produces ONLY tanks because no heat from UK or USA threat to land units (normany/D-day invasion)
      4. Japan builds factory in Manchuria starts coming up the back
      5. Japan island hops taking at will all Dutch and British Islands in Pacific
      6. America spends MOST of its money and attention trying to take out Japanese Fleet, but in all games, the Japanese Fleet has prevailed over Americans fleet.

Please, you all have MUCH more experience than any of us. Any of your opinions on our issues would be GREATLY appreciated.

      Thanks!
