    • RE: Which country is the hardest….

When you say the Geman capital is harder to keep, are you disagree with the below analysis?  What part do you disagree with?

      @rjclayton:

I would say Russia, because proven strats have been developed where the axis either go after Germany first or Japan first (KGF/KJF), but pretty much every Allied strat involves Taking down Russia first.

If we assume Axis win 50% and Allies win 50%, then the breakdown of who loses their capital first should look something like this:
      Russia - 49%
      Germany - 45%
      Japan - 5%
      UK - 1%
      USA - 0%

Blanket statements like “Germany doesn’t buy ships” are funny, and can always be proven wrong by some wacky buy, but in this case I think a statement like this is reasonably accurate.  (A statement that Russia doesn’t buy ships could also be proven wrong!)  If you have been reading about German naval buys on these forums, perhaps you were reading in the revised threads?  Since I don’t remember any threads like that in this classic area.  I agree with Bashir that any German naval buy in classic is a bad idea.

    • RE: G1 fleet unification, how does UK respond?

Typically though a baltic naval buy means that UK/USA are delayed from landing in Europe for at least a turn.  With a 3 fighter buy, baltic navy is wiped out in B2 with 1 fighter lost unless Germany further reinforces.  Then the beefed up British RAF can turn on Germany and either help anchor the russian defense or help clear africa.  Remember that G1 you spent 12IPC less on ground troops than you could have, so you pulled a bit of pressure of Russia already.  1 turn delay for UK landing troops shouldn’t make or break Russia this early in the game.

Yeah, I would agree that Germany is the hardest of the 5 powers to play.

But the thread was about which capital was harder to hold, and I still think Moscow is.

      Kewl 'bout the dice roller.

Tonez has the move posting modifications on his to-do list, but no timeline has been set for implementation (what can I say the weather’s turning nice and the babes in Ottawa are coming out to play!)

For now, you can manually post the pre-combat turn summary by opening the game history and right-clicking on the purchase units step for the current turn.

    • RE: Abattlemap 079f

yes, there is a file in the ABattlemap folder called abattlemap.ini

You need to close ABattlemap and delete this file.  Then when you restart ABattlemap this file will be recreated and automatically place the toolbars in the default location (top left).  Then you should be good to go.

I think this can happen if you try to move the toolbars too close to the edge of the map, so try to keep them a little bit away from the edge.

    • RE: (Survey) What other games do you play?

I also played Ticket to ride a little bit.  That’s a fun game, can’t wait to play more.  Haven’t checked out a website for it, and don’t think I would.

    • RE: Game mixing up who's attacking?

Can you attach a saved game file here?  Save it just before combat, and make sure you describe the behaviour in detail (ie. which battle is screwing up, which round, what the rolls were, what you think they should have been, etc.)

      LHTR 1.3 page 29 of 29:

      6. Superfortresses
THE B-29 SUPERFORTRESS FLEW HIGHER THAN ANY OTHER PLANE
      IN THE U.S. ARSENAL.
The defender rolls two antiaircraft guns for
each superfortress. The total of 2 die must
add to 3 or less to shoot the superfortress
down in the opening fire step.

Normal AA fire has a 1 in 6 chance of hitting.
Superfortress AA fire has a 3 in 36 chance (1 in 12) of hitting.  So it’s still an advantage.

    • RE: Joint Strike NA quirk

      @newpaintbrush:

I would assume that artillery of one nation cannot support infantry of another nation.

I would assume the opposite.  To me, this NA is just as though you pool all UK and US pieces together “jointly” and do your turn as though they all belong to the US.  UK BB can support US amphibious assaults, etc. etc. etc.

    • RE: G1 fleet unification, how does UK respond?

I think Squire was refering to a B1 attack with the British BB, TRN, fighters and bomber attacking the German Baltic fleet in SZ7 (after the first round channel dash attempt).

Adding to Jen’s point about just leaving the Baltic fleet where it is, if the British or US try to move a fleet in close to the baltic to use as fodder in taking out this fleet, Germany can in turn use their baltic fleet as fodder to take out the allied fleet with their airforce.  So it ofter has to be just airpower that takes out the baltic fleet, or an overwhelmingly large allied fleet that Germany doesn’t have the firepower to take out even with the baltic fleet as fodder.  But it takes time for the allies to build up a fleet that large, and in the meantime the German interior territories can be defended much more lightly with their baltic fleet intact.

No, Anglo Egypt starts with 1 inf 1 arm 1 fgt.  Hence the extra roll each round of combat.

    • RE: What happens when you kill an AC that carried Ftrs and retreat?

      @Jennifer:

Defenders cannot retreat, but if Japan attacks Pearl and withdraws from battle, leaving a fighter without a carrier to land on, it may land in Hawaii (or for arguement’s sake a carrier within one space of it as well.)

However, if there is no place to land within one space, then undestroyed defending fighters splash into the ocean forever lost to the world.

      yep.

    • RE: Which country is the hardest….

True, but after the first few turns Japan’s “main” area of production (their new ICs on the mainland) are all a stone’s throw away from Moscow too.

Anyway, this debate is kinda getting old with just two participants  :-P

Hmm, what was the alleged date of his post???Â

OMFG that is crazy.  I know Jen has been saying for a while now that it’s like the whole world is out to discredit her, but I had no idea the conspiracies we so involved with plagerizing her and then adjusting time stamps to make it look legit.  Be careful everyone else or the same thing could happen to you.

Jen, you’ve outdone yourself this time.  LMFAO!!!

    • RE: Was it worth adding ART to the game?

I agree with almost everything Jen said.  Where I would disagree is with Russia.  An aggressive Russia can be fighting a war on 5 different fronts (3 prongs from Japan, plus 2 from Germany coming high & low) and desperately needs the mobility of armour.  Japan can use the mobility of armour early, and they are more mobile than the Allied resistance they can sometimes faint low/ go high or some other combination to force the allies to retreat to Moscow.  Germany/UK would probably be the biggest users of ART for the reasons Jen listed.

Outside Lime, how do you use this sheet to record the current board state?  Doesn’t the starting setup that is already printed on the chart get in the way of recording this information?  Wouldn’t a blank map be better for this task?  (By the way, that’s a really nice looking map you use.)

    • RE: Which country is the hardest….

The US is in IMMEDIATE striking distance of Berlin?  I don’t think so.  They need to move their transport and troops within range, but realistically build a bunch more transports first, and of course make sure they have the capital ships to protect them.  UK too must build transports and capital ship protection.

Japan on the other hand can immediately build ICs on the mainland and never really look back.  They will probably build a few transports but already have the capital ships to protect them.  And after a few short turns Japan usually has the same income as Russia and UK combined anyway.  Russia is usually in just as much danger as Germany.  IMO.
