    • RE: Which country is the hardest….

      @zosima:

      true. but given a game where the allies decide to go for germany, wouldnt germany be harder then russia?

      Perhaps, but KGF wasn’t a given in your opening post  :wink:

      Actually, the bid has a lot to do with it.  If you are playing with no bid, then I think the allies should win many more games than the axis, making Germany the hardest capital to keep.  But if you play with a bid, the game should be about 50-50 wins for Axis and Allies, so my earlier post stands.

      Now, ASSUMING the allies go KGF in a bid game, would Germany’s capital be harder to keep than Russia’s capital?  I think they would be about the same (given a 50-50 win ratio).  I can’t see how it would be any harder for Germany.  Thoughts?

    • RE: Hello all, newcomer to the board and…..

      The revised map is contained in your tripleA download.  Nix posted directions on how to load it instead of the classic map:

      @Nix:

      It has all versions, but you need to press the button “load game” to load the correct game file (revised).

      It´s a bit confusing at first glance.

      To verify that you have the revised map, you can browse to the folder that you installed TripleA in (c:\program files\triplea is the default on a windows machine I think), and then browse down through triplea_0_9_0_2\games.  The file revised.xml should be sitting in this folder, which means you already have the revised map, you just need to load it as per Nix’s instructions above.

      Yes, but what are your thoughts on delaying moving the med fleet west by 1 round on the channel dash?

    • RE: Was it worth adding ART to the game?

      Hey Jen,

      How come the different ratio for axis vs. allies?  Is it because the axis have to be more offensive at the beginning?  If so, why does it look like the allies ratio is more aggressive than the axis ratio?

      Oh, I see.  After re-reading yes I think I mixed them up:

      @rjclayton:

      I would say Russia, because proven strats have been developed where the axis (should be allies) either go after Germany first or Japan first (KGF/KJF), but pretty much every Allied (should be axis) strat involves Taking down Russia first.

      If we assume Axis win 50% and Allies win 50%, then the breakdown of who loses their capital first should look something like this:
      Russia - 49%
      Germany - 45%
      Japan - 5%
      UK - 1%
      USA - 0%

      I’d still suggest committing your battleship to Egypt G1 then if you still want to try the merge on G2 you can then take Gibraltar and merge the remnants of the baltic fleet in sz13 with BB/trn.  Do you gain a lot by taking Gibraltar G1 on a channel dash?  I don’t really see it.

      @losttribe04:

      Was ART worth adding to the game?

      Yes

      @losttribe04:

      Lets say you wanted to buy 8 INF and 2 ARM in classic, in revised you now choose to buy 6 INF, 2 ART and 1 ARM. Now you have spent more IPC’s and got less units to show for it.

      Count again.

      8 INF 2 ARM = 34IPC , Count=10, OPunch = 14, DPunch = 22
      6 INF 2 ART 1 ARM = 31IPC

      You’ve spent less money for fewer units.

      Try 7 INF 2 ART 1 ARM = 34 IPC, Count = 10, OPunch = 16, DPunch = 21

      Same money.  Same units.  Defensive punch is 1 less.  Offensive punch is 2 more.

      A criminal is about to rob someone in an alley, when they see a policeman walk by.  The criminal changes his mind and runs off.

      A criminal hears on the news that in the past month there were 9 muggings in his city, and the perpetrator was caught on all 9 occasions.  The criminal thinks better of mugging someone.

      Are these not examples of police preventing crime?

      @newpaintbrush:

      Build 3 transports and 1 tank.

      Interesting.  Care to elaborate on the tank?  I never build a tank that early because I never think I need a second one that early when I have all that fighter support against very little opposition.  J2 or J3 I’ll build and IC or two and start pumping tanks (as well as building half inf/half tanks at Japan).  Do you need another tank that early, or are 2 inf better?

    • RE: G1 fleet unification, how does UK respond?

      True.  Although when he said “bid units” he might have meant “bid unit plus Libya units” as I assume he would use existing Libya units in his attempt to take Egypt.  Not literally what he said but still possible.

      Why you still play OOB, G?

    • RE: Rules Questions

      Yes.  From LHTR 1.3 page 23:

      Loading and Offloading: A transport can load
      cargo before, during, and after it moves. A
      transport can pick up cargo, move 1 sea zone,
      pick up more cargo, move 1 more sea zone, and
      offload the cargo at the end of its movement.
      It may also remain at sea with the cargo still
      aboard (but only if the cargo remaining aboard
      was loaded in a previous turn or was loaded
      this turn in the noncombat move phase). A
      transport can offload into a hostile territory
      only during an amphibious assault (see below).

      Whenever a transport offloads, it cannot move
      again that turn. If a transport retreats, it
      cannot offload that turn. A transport can
      never offload in two territories during a
      single turn, nor can it offload cargo onto
      another transport. If a sea zone contains
      hostile units, the transport may not load or
      offload in that sea zone (unless the only
      hostile units are submerged submarines).

    • RE: Hello all, newcomer to the board and…..

      @ncscswitch:

      There are folks who use TripleA, which I THINK has the potential for direct “live play” linkage (not 100% sure on that)

      Yep, TripleA supports live play, PBEM, PBF, and play versus someone else using Battlemap, Mapview, physical board.

      @ncscswitch:

      Yes, the Diceys handle both sides of combat. But in cases where you as the defender want control of your losses instead of “standard order of loss” you simply make that clear up front, and then you simply get a “number of hits” result that you assign to specific units before the next round of combat is rolled.

      Just to add to this, it is the attacker who assigns defender casualties while they are rolling the dice, based on Standard Order of Loss (SOL - jk  :-D)

      If the defender wants to micromanage a particular battle, he/she let’s the attacker know ahead of time and then the attacker rolls each round and waits for the defender to specify the losses.

    • RE: G1 fleet unification, how does UK respond?

      Switch, if you were referring to this:

      @rjclayton:

      As germany I would probably forgo the Gibraltar move on G1 (I can always do it on G2 if the merge is on) to take (and hold) Egypt if possible and put more pressure on UK to make choices early.

      Then understand that I am not suggesting moving the fleet to WMD without taking Gibraltar.  I’m suggesting moving the med fleet to EMD on G1 (to help with Egypt).  Then if the baltic fleet survives in sz7 you can consider moving the med fleet back to WMD on G2 and consolidating with the baltic fleet there.  If the baltic fleet survives.

      Back on topic…

      I have noticed a very slow connection sometimes tonight (2 or 3 times).  The ping rate is good (34/35 ms) so I think the server is taking time to process my request.  Don’t know if anyone else has experienced this (takes over 10 seconds to load a page on a dsl lite connection).

      @Jennifer:

      Nix, don’t forget the 2 submarines, transport and destroyer from SZ 5 in your equation.

      This thread is about a UK counter to a G1 channel dash.  There is no baltic fleet to counterattack sz7 with on G2 because you would be countering an attack made on UK1 on the baltic fleet in sz7.
