Sorry if I sound like a teacher now ;), but doesn’t your build depend on your overall strategy (and units available).

10Inf sound like a good build if there is such an allied (Russian) infantry supremacy.

Also 10 inf give you a lot of cannon fodder for both attack and defence.

i have done games where Germany lost the game in turn 1 because it won its initial games, but had to choose tanks as casualty even during attack and then Russia attacked back and could kill many of the remaining good german units.

I am an old style (pre revised AA gamer) and grand strategy said: Attack with a mix of INF Tanks and  FTRs, but make sure that you have enough inf to survive the counter attack.

Revised is even more dangerous. drop a few Atry in and infantry (withouit) is even a good attack force.

I will hold final judgement until I get my copy of AA50 and have done a few trial games, but friom what is known national advantages and the posibility of reducing ones building capacity will certainly alter the flow and feel of the game.

      Avanti Savoia :D

A question first. How valid is the map and setup?

Often an inf or two more in setup makes a world of a difference…

Second: In defence of Random Techs…

IMHO its “historical” to invest money to research - what you get is often not determined by your goal, but by pure luck.

Best example - when they wanted to make gold they found Blackpowder ;)

      Don’t ask for the cost… :D

Its a collectible minis game after all, but I already have loads of basic infantyr

      50+ Mosin Nagants (Russian Soldier)
30+ Arisakas (Japanese Soldiers), MAuser Rifle, SMLE Rifle, M1 Garand Rifle, 20+ Fucile (Italian Soldiers)

Subs are cheap (though no russians so far)

Destroyers are also under a $ per piece

As a minis gamer its affordable to trade away surplus stock for units needed for th game

if you start from Scratch and buy “singles” it will be expensive.

its an option for us who already own many pieces

But for Italians alone: (the online shop I order my pieces)

      price per piece
      Ambra (Submarine) 0,19$
Luca Tarigo (Destroyer) 0,79$ OR Ugolino Vivaldi (DD) 0,39$
E.F. Duca D’Aosta (CL) 1,79$ OR Eugenio di Savoia (CL) 1,29$
Vittorio Veneto (BB) 7,99$ - are really big - the Giulio Cesare BB is a bit smaller but costs 8,99$
      NO CARRIER AVAILABLE ATM
      NO TRANSPORT AVAILABLE ATM

C.202 Folgore - fighter 1,39$ - a stand has 3planes that are molded together, but you might be able to cut them…
      SM.79 Sparviero - twin engine Bomber 2.59$

      Fucile Modello (infantry) 0,49$
      47/32 Antitank Gun (Arty) 0,39$
Carro Armato M11/39 2,29$ - L3/35 Tankette 0,59$ (the latter is quite small and currently not available, the foremer relative big)

prices change wwith demand the Rusian Mosin Magant costs around 3 times the Fucile…

How much a nation costs depends largely on how many units of each type you probably will need…

I amconsidering to use my pacific red japanese for the italians. Also interesting option is to use my old Europe Russians- they seem to be more brownish than the current ones - to get some cruisers should not be the problem…

If the board is big enough I am considering to use AAminis for the Boardgame…

I already started to collect some basic inf…

Sources say that Krieghund is NOT LH - only LHs clone - thus he has knowledge of the game without having written it ;)

What sources?  Sounds like one of Imperious Leader’s theories.     :-)

Sorry! The Emperor says teh sources have to be protected….

A question about this bonus points…

If - for example - Italy conquers ukraine - does this count for Germanys bonus or must Germany hold this territory? If Germany must hold it - can Italy hand over this territory to Germany, or is the bonus forever denied to Germany if russia chooses to IGNORE the Italian held Ukarine for the time being (as Germany MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO CONQUER the Ukraine…

      @03321:

      @Richter:

Best strategy was (and is) to kill off any transports built by UK each turn.

That was kinda impossible if the UK player was worth anything…and I assume it still will be.  Sure, you will be able to take out some transports, but taking out all transports every turn can’t be the best strategy because it simply isn’t feasible unless UK is terrible.

It depends how many TTs UK builds each turn at 2-3 it should be possible - if UK builds more it will likely have to neglect other parts of the Empire…

IIRC the new rules say something that unprotected TTs are killed by even crossing the territory they are in, so Germany should be able to contain the advancing fleet ;)

Assuming that UK/US can land in one territory, Germany still holds the other and Germany itself - it should be possible to throw the Aliies back ito the sea - unless you completely stripped Germany of units…

But I will be happy to try it when the game arrives :D

      @timerover51:

      @Richter:

Attacking Italy (Southern) Europe was an option in the basic game - just not a clever option.

Italy is quite protected (from what I have seen of the map) - Italy being a separate player is a bonus to Germany - startegic bombing italy does NOT hurt German resources…

But I know too less of Triple A to decide exactly what to do…

My comment with respect to Strategic Bombing was on using Italy as a base for bombers to attack Germany.  This was actually done during the war to split and avoid German air defenses.  I am assuming with the change in Strategic Bombing rules that the German player will place an AA gun in both Northern Europe and France to reduce the effects of bomber attack.  Attacking from Italy would avoid this.  However, if Italy can be persuaded to change sides, then an Allied attack on the Rumanian oil fields might be a viable option.

However, the ability of the Allies to attack Italy is constrained by the very limited US production capacity.  In actuality, during WW2 the US mounted a major offensive in the Pacific against Japan, mounted a strategic bombing campaign against Germany while building up the mass of forces for the D-Day invasion, and fought a major campaign in the Mediterranean Theater, all at the same time.  That is not possible in the game as it appears presently.

Also unknown is if there are any limitations to the number of Axis troops in Libya.  The port capacity of Tripoli put a cap on the number of troops that could be supported, the number diminishing steadily the farther from Tripoli they were.  It does not appear that there is a separate area for Cyrenaica.

If you implement production levels into the game you would have also to implement troop quality, Equipment quality morale and a million other things - some favoring the Allies, some the Axis.

Regarding the three front war (Pacific - West Europe - Africa) : not only the US had to do this quite all major powers had to do it. Sure the US did produce MOST war equipment, but without the help of others the US alone would NOT have won… - despite production supremacy

If Germany and Russia were at peace (stupid decision to attack the red while still at war with the brits) an invasion to Europe would probably have failed - you can bring only SOOO many troops with ships - if the enemy has enough reserves he can push back the enemy into the water with ease…

T am not convinced that the US won the war in Africa and Italy.

Key factor in the med was the British carrier of Malta, the presence of a strong Royal navy to contain Italy and shipping to Africa - both factors are missing in the setup of this game (AAE has malta and as avid brit player its my first duty to hold Malta at ALL COSTS)

…err… rant and anti US mod off …

(Sorry but I can’t stand if the Efforts of the Brits - at war 1939-1945 - and the Russians - summer 1941-1945 - are forgotten to easily - The US played a great and vital part in the war, but they were not alone)

This game is an abstraction and I want to play both sides and WIN with both sides…

BTW the idea of splitting Africa into MORE territories sounds great (Morocco Algeria Tunesia Libya Cyrenaica)

I do NOt think the idea of limiting the number of units in certain territories is a good one. - Those territories represent huge stretches of land… - you would have to limit the pacific islands to an inf+plane - then ;)

The Allies can limit the number of Axis units in NA just the way they did in the real world - sink the transports - kill off the Axis…

    • RE: Think K[G/J/I]F is over?

Id on’t think that DDay is a greater threat than it was before…

Best strategy was (and is) to kill off any transports built by UK each turn.

More dangerous is an attack on Norway - each time Uk got an foothold in northern Europe Germany was crushed soon after - despite German sucesses in Africa…

Also IGNORING Japan is the downfall for the Allies - If Japan does not have to worry about the US island hopping they have free reign in the Pacific and are able to sweep through Asia

More often than not Axis troops linked up in Persia then whittling away Russia - if Japan has enough units to attack russia (Moscow) in force Germany can build enough planes to constantly harass shipping in the Atlantic…

I got used to split forces to cover each theatre, because ignoring one speels doom (no matter what side I play…)

but that are only my experiences ;)

BTW - Sometimes we play Russo-Japanese peach treaty (Russia can only attack Japan if Germany is gone/japan can only attack russia if UKor US capital is gone - though then the game is quite over ;)) - Any hint that Triple A also has a similar rule? (Historical gamer speaking here ;))

    • RE: First pics from GenCon

i am really looking forward to this game…

From what it looks not tooo much territories were added , but i admit I never played revised - I used to “combine” pacific and Europe for one big game map…

10 points for Italy seems not much, but considering that it has a decent fleet and the "only thing it has to do early in the game is taking Egypt (with German help) and then spread to Arica and Asia (if all goes well) should allow Italy to do its part.

UK could be in trouble if it looses to much on one front (Africa Asia Europe)

If Italy and Japan can link up Early in the game Russia is probably doomed and Italy can focus on fleet builds to harrass the Aliies in the Atlantic

That are of course a few ifs… - HAve I already said that I really look forward to get this game…
