      @Hobbes:

      @Hobbes:

I send an email yesterday to costumer service in Europe asking about the battle strip and the tac bombers. They replied today asking for my address to send the new battle strip but didn’t mentioned anything about the additional tac bombers. It seems that they haven’t been informed yet.

Very nice surprise on the mail today… just got the battlestrip and the planes today  :-D

The battlestrip is a little bent but nothing that a pair of heavy books over it won’t solve and the planes look OK, other than a few scratches.

Mailed the (belgian WOtc) last Saturday - found a new battlestrip and 6 Japanese Tac Bombers today in the mail

      :D

Interesting idea, but I fear it will not reLLY BE BALANCED - especially if you consider the importance op placement of factories and bases in this game.

Overall I would say you could leave the balance of power similar, but add a few units - the ONE change I would forsee is that French Indochina is Japanese from the start. (pac)

      Europe should offer more changes…

    • RE: Declaring War Questions

What about the quasi declaration of war if Uk moves an unit into china (chinese controlled) - that can ONLY be done during noncombat. Would it have to do a DOW during combat move?

    • RE: The Hitler Options

I think the mechanic would simple be japan can DOW on Russia anytime, but Russia must wait until either Germany is eliminated (like in our History) OR until Germany occupies UK (assume Stalin wanted to wait untilel UK and Germany had weakend each other)

    • RE: Timing of moves during combat move…

Basically it boils down to the question - should you have to declare war BEFORE you move any units during Combat movement - which seems to me has been confirmed by our Answer Guy (KH)

    • Timing of moves during combat move…

Assume japan is at war with ANZAC, but NOT with US.

Is it possible to move a fleet through a SA with an US combat vessel to reach - for example a spot from where you do an amphibious attack on DEI (not a trigger for war with the US) first -

      AND then

Make a combat move into a different (the same) SZ (or territory) owned by the US (constituting a DOW).

Basically would you need to make a DOW before you move any units in a combat move?

I thought that scrambling was not possible if you ignore the Trp - I stand corrected now ;)

    • RE: 3 Rules Questions…

Now I see the logic of one island (only) per seazone - otherwise someone could scrabmle from two different islands into a battle in the sea zone.

And thats why scrambling from “continent” is not allowed too - you could possibly scramble from Korea and Jaopan into a battle in SZ 6 ;)

Without Krieghund we would NOT have consistend errata and answers to rule questions. But we still would have faulty product.

      Thanks Kriegshund!

I must admit I never saw an Amph assault as happening within the Sea Zone  - I always thought it happened in the “land” terry - you never stop to learn ;)

    • RE: 3 Rules Questions…

      @Mino1124:

For the first question you can only scramble Fighers and Tac Bombers. Like you said it’s only for island defense, but you can choose to scramble 0, all, or anywhere in between at your discretion. You can even scramble a plane so that the opponent doesn’t get to bombard with ships even if you have no navy defending said SZ. The fight goes on until the attacker retreats his/her sea units, or until 1 or both sides have nothing they can attack with.

As for question 2, there are territories which border multiple sz’s. Alaska for example borders SZ1 and SZ2. Any allie bordering Alaska if US has an airport there would get the bonus so SZ1 and SZ2, not the SZ’s touchig the SZ’s that touch the land (if that makes any sense). Soviet Far East also borders multiple SZ’s. It borders SZ3, SZ4, and SZ5.

I would not agree on scrambling into a SZ where no naval battle occurs - the rulebook states the premise “naval battle”.

      But another question:

      Scramble states island with airbase.

Japan is an island, so OK you can scramble from there.

Australia is NOT an island (its a continent ;))  - so if I do rules lawyering I would say planes can NOT scramble from any territory in Australa (US/ASIA) to join a naval battle - correct?

If yes - is it intentional or just an oversight…?

    • RE: J1 attack very tough on allies

With the low number of units the Allies have at the start of the game I also thought of trying a J1 push.

      some thoughts:

Burma road - it enables the Chinese to buy artillery instead Infantry - would that be so bad? China starts with 12IPC = 4 INF OR 3 ART/INF mixture. Art is also only hepling in attack (wouldn’t Japan like it that  China attacks?).

IIRC then a lone Trsp (Hawaii) does NOT provoke combat - leavr trsp alone and focus on the Island - enables shore bombardment - so JP fleet could go to Hawaii and block out the US fleet (IIRC the JP is larger)

Securing Malaya and/HK is prime priority - could you “ignore” Phillies for a turn (no chance to build there)? we are used to attack phillies first, but is it necessary?

Instead of an minor IC in China - I’d buy a 3rd transport for shuttling troops from Japan (quite a stack there)

      IC then on J2

If you take Hawaii and Hongkong J1 and Phillies J2 you have 5 VCs

From there you can deceide wether you go after India or Australia - depending on how many trs you have fully loaded.

i this scenario China and teh DEI would NOT be prime targets as they supply IPCs and this strategy focusses on speed

If you capture enough VC it does not matter how much US produces.

I might add taking Hawaii and splanting your J fleet there allows (fly planes to Hawaii for scrambling ;)
to delay the US fleet for some time (even strike out at the West Coast initial fleet - US can’t build too much on US 1) at J2

I know its risky, but this stratregy mirrors somewhat the original Japanese plan in 1941. Strike Quick and Strike hard - then the war is over.

    • RE: Getting extra pieces?

As I got my Pacific game on Thursday and set it up on the weekend, I must ask a (maybe) stupid question.

Whats going on here. 6 tacs are not much I agree, but you “only” need 5 (japanese) for Setup - so you could either buy turn 1 or split one group.

I did not play, but experience with AA games show that you have to expect losses (especially in carrier groups), so you should be able to get along with the pieces provided.

I agree 8 would have been better, but it will be ok ;)

On the contrary I think we got too many units for soem - teh Aussies and Kiwis never had BBs and CV (until the very) end, so why so much grey pieces  :D

Overall I think there is a strange lack of garrisons on the map. - ;)

japan seems the ONLY nation that is war ready - and with this setup I doubt many BIG ships will be bought…

I consider even a J1/J2 attack on the US - going for Hawaii - then south to Australia early ;)

    • Chinese unit placement - Question - First on many ;)

Got my copy yesterday - only began to read in, but to me it

seems China NOW gets income like all other, but has NO factory and NO Capital. I did not find any restriction for placement of bought Infantry/Artillery pieces (AA50 had - IIRC - the restriction of one unit per territory). that means to me I could NOW spread out my (Chinese) builds OR also put them into ONE territory - Correct?
