Jen why would you do battle on the first turn with the first team that could lose the whole game for the allies?

Has anyone tried all Art for R1?
I was thinking the other day that might be interesting to see played.

RE: Strategic Bombing Raids in Revised…..completely pointlessposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I think one has to look at SBR not as what it gains you but what it hurts your opponent. Under this thinking I love to SBR russia.
Thinking that if you are agressive against Russia they are probably around 24 max. So this gives them the ability have some interesting builds say 8 inf, 1 tank 5 inf and 1 art or something like that. Keeping in mind that they probably need around 4-5 inf later on in the game just for trading and dead zones. More if the Japs are playing their cards right.
With this understanding then by attacking strategically and SBRing you can REALLY happer the attack strength of the russians. Over time this will allow you to gain ground faster and approach with less caution. There is a lot of difference from and average of 23 IPC and say 17 considering you need to spend so much just trading. This is why I think you need to SBR Russia a few turns before you make your advance in a close game.
Keeping in mind what Jen said for reasons not to SBR.

RE: How should the Allies counter 2 ICs on J1?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I have found in my house games that this can be counter rather well.
Frist the american’s have to make Japs spend money on Pacfic navy. Plus defend their southern islands.
Groud D on Sin
British landing in africa and holding off on wasting the India infantry. What has happened in are games is that the Japs can’t really get a head of steam with pressure on both sides. This is by no means a KJF game but more of a control both sides. These games have always been played with new players so the realibilty of what I say is probably suspect.

I think that the tatic is good to change the pace of the game and make the great britian player take notice. Otherwise you are playing directly into the allied hands.

I think that until someone crunches the numbers for 3 turns out for the probabilites then one can tell if this is luck strategy or actually viable.
Just from my gut I think that this strategy is viable for all except rather bad dice ( lower 25% of dice) which can defeat any strategy in this game.

Jen as for the SBR strat the point about the dice is you are really putting everything on them for this and that might be too much to ask really.
The loses don’t really matter becasue it will really weaken russias counter attack. So if it cost the axis 2 for every 1 ipc then I think it would work out for the best. Time will tell I am going to go 2 bmb for germany next game.

Yeah KGF is the only way it would work. I think that Jap will see the game enough to know what the allies are doing.
I am currently playing myself with this strategy and it is working out ok but the japs are rather inf and others weak. I’m not loving it at the momement but we will have to see later on how it works out.
My next game if conditions work out ok I will try it there. I will keep you posted.

LT04 I hear what you are saying but I think you have to think of the axis as a team so this is something you probably don’t want to do with FTF games with 4-5 players. With that said, think about the benefits of germany having 45-50 IPC most of the game this will allow them to be very stong and I don’t think it will cost the Japs much.
They will be using there starting fleet plus ftr and a few troops to keep germany strong. This will allow asia to fall fast to the japs as well.
The IPC goes 80 axis vs 96 with africa and a lot of asia the IPC war will be won. They will have the postional advantage as well. Unless the axis get dice screwed they will win this game for sure I think. Time to really test this one out though.

Jen I had the same thoughts about the SBR on russia like you. I still think it is a nice strategy but the problem is that it places a lot of hope on the dice not landing on 1 beyond the odds. If it doesnt its an easy win if it does then you are up the creek …
Have you play tested it much? I never really got to with mine but it worked well in one game. What russian open could hurt this strategy? Would you use it if the dice were hot/cold on R1?

RE: Most Surprising First Round purchases you have seen?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
The thinking with the fighters it to have a squad go over to africa to defend the german placement. The bid will go into a tran in med or libya men.
Its a land grab for germany more so then for japan and this will play into the axis hands if they come after the jap as well becuase germany will have africa plus the russian territory to roll into russia.
It has got me interested and I will try it out maybe not all FTRS start but i will go all 2 rnd. Plus they will not expect it lol. I hope that rolls do not effect this to much either way.

Has anyone every tried an all air craft build for japan turn one? If so how did it turn out?
I’m interested in trying this myself next game see what happens.

Never thought of an AC open for Jap but it might through off the americans. I think it would be better to wait for R2 though.

Jen take me up on the offer to test the WEU IC open for germany?

RE: Buying AC on G1posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I find in my games that letting the british and americans rain in the atlantic undetered takes the game out of the german’s hands. If the German’s can not control the game then they are needlessly unmatched and will be overmatched by the annoying landings and broken supply lines.
Now if Russia has nice roles then you do not go CV first round but as always play the game not force the game.

The IC allows you to plant new naval purchases directly on your fleet in SZ 6, 7 and 12 instead of building it back in SZ 5 or 14. Also could assist in any Operation Sea Lion attempts. And it is cheaper than building an Aircraft Carrier.
All valid points but how does this help take moscow? I hope you are not saying that we should place the axis hope on taking britian.
As for the claim that the german’s can take on Britian and americans fleet I do not understand this because they have like 72 resources while the germans have like 40 at the start and this will be diminished very fast if the russians are allowed to push very far into german territory.
If you want to slow down the american’s and bristish to give japs time then I think that you could do this from SEU naval base and not have to deal with the trouble of the russians fast advance into germany. Instead of trading russia places you will be trading german ones and these extra 10 ipc will do wonders for the Russian cause.I still challenge anyone to a game under the conditions that you have to do IC WEU first turn. I will give a 10 bid and you can discuss with me the russia open so that I do not unfairly use the german IC purchase knowledge to my advantage.

I’ve got an even more surprising Round1 buy…
Seeing an IC in WEU on G1…. and lose the game because of it
My, is that a shame or whatIf you think it is such a good open then I will take you up on that offer.
Otherwise you are just messing around. How in the world could a IC being on WEU be any help? It allows WEU to fall fast make you defend that heavy and germany which will make germany fall easier. It gives russia the ability to go hard on the offensive. If I saw this I would buy tanks and art next round and push the germans back easily.
The only positive could be fighting the allies in the atlantic but they do not have the money nor the time to build anything other then a suicidal fleet.

This can be either good or bad.
The worst I have seen is a IC in WEU this was from a guy that just learned the game and was his second turn. Turned out to work really well mind you because he hit at 80% no matter what the role but in a real game it would have been horrible.
Do you have any that you would like to share?
