    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

Can you send an aircraft carrier into combat to take hits?

We’ve always played the game that aircraft carriers can’t move during combat movement phase because they have no attack value. But now that we’ve reread the rules, it doesn’t state anywhere that they can’t attack (or take hits).

    • RE: U.S. Pacific

I always invest the first 2 turns in 3 vessels each turn on the pacific side of the map (stupid minor complex). Then I’d probably have my original fleet + 2 battleships, 2 cruisers and 2 destroyers (or 4 destroyers and no cruisers). And I start to attack the japanese fleet. My only real concern is when Japan keeps its fleet all in 1 place, it will still be too strong for the USA to deal with, but this also means that SZ6 is either empty and you can land in Korea (wich I always find an attractive move, open up another front to harrass the Japanese). After 2 turns I switch theatres and invest more in the Atlantic then in the Pacific (but always invest in both as long as it’s necesarry!).

If you’re redoing the board, is there a way you can add in Belgium? I see you have Belgian Congo as a seperate Belgian territorry but Belgium itself is nowhere to be found… I know you adding another European territory isn’t exactly what you need but I can still ask :p

      @Henz:

if france survives my group generally calls it an allied win and resets the board

I wish I could like this on facebook!

It’s true tho, no point in playing on. The Allies will definately win.

Usually when victory for one of the sides is iminent. That’s either when the Axis lose the initiative or when the axis will capture their last VC.

    • RE: Uk pac 2 attack

I always attack Japan in China on UK Pac 2. This reopens the burma route (as the Japanese have way too limited ground forces) and keeps china in play. China is really more important then most of the players think. I find them very strong, especially against those scattered Japanese forces. The only problem is their airforce but every japanese unit you can take out on the mainland, is a huge win.

    • RE: Whats your favourite SURPRISE move?

I used my transports that I bought to fake Sea Lion to drop 12 troops in Leningrad while at the same time having my troops invade the Baltic states. Secured a perimeter in the North wich helped me out a lot!

    • RE: What do you defend with the European Axis?

I never commit any air forces to Russia and invest in my air force (I prefer bombers coz of their range). I usually leave very little land units to defend the western front and when I notice the Allies are able to land within 1 turn I start building defences.

I try to bomb the Allied sea units when they get in range. This worked a lot for me.

    • RE: Speeding up the game

ask eachother in the beginning of each round if germany will attack russia, if not, do both of them simultaneously, and already start working on japan. The same with the US if they’re still neutral, do them while it’s Japan’s turn, same for China. Italy and Anzac can go together also. Already plan what you’re buying for your next round and change if ur opponent has done something you totally didn’t expect.

    • RE: Axis J1 attack on U.S. - What is wrong with this strategy?

Especially if you attack and take Hawaii, first thing I would do is spent enough money on the pacific to take it back instantly. It gets you your NO back and it destroys a significant part of the Japanese fleet wich is really hard to build up… Whenever I see an opportunity to attack a few japanese ships, I take it. That’s by far the only way how I think the japanese can be stopped, by destroying their fleet wich is really hard to build up again and if you took Hawaii and hold it, it means a part of your fleet is there, in range by the american navy wich they can rebuild quite easily. Europe will survive a few rounds so you still have plenty of time to reinforce that.

    • RE: Global, russian penalty for attacking japan, anyone?

Yeah maybe that’s a good and balanced rule! Give Japan 1 infrantry per originally owned Chinese territory that starts the game under control of Japan, that is also currently still controlled by Japan. So if japan owns all 6 original chinese territorries, they get 6 infrantry. Maybe you can add in a theme like anti-communist movements aiding the japanese against the communist russian troops? This could be a cool addition and a very good way to help out Japan taking out China.

This is also helps to keep the Russians out of the war possibly most of the time until allied victory is achieved. This does mean that if the Russians attack, the only territory they would attack would be korea otherwise they would lose their Mongolia bonus. I like that idea!

    • RE: URGENT : A game today, but still a little bit confused about the setups/rules…

      @Gargantua:

USE THE ALPHA 3.9 RULES FOR EUROPE - They are substantially better.

Everything works properly and is covered by Alpha 3.9, with 3 exceptions.

      1. France starts with 2 less IPC’s (17?) becuase French-Indo-China is not included
      2. Russia gets + 9 IPC’s a turn from it’s eastern territories
      3. USA only collects NO’s represented on the European side of the board

Don’t ask me why Krieghund/Larry thinks it’s ok to give Russia + IPC’s from other maps, but not America or France. :p

They’re response so far has been that ‘somehow’ it makes sense.

They get +9 but lose the 2 infrantry bonus each turn comming from novosibirsk so they only gain 3IPC per turn.

    • Global, russian penalty for attacking japan, anyone?

      Hi everyone,

I like the penalty of activating mongolia when japan attacks Russia but there’s no penalty the other way around. In global the japs have a very dificult time on the mainland as it is and when the Russians can decide to attack any time they like, it’s even harder for the japs. I was wondering if anyone out there has a good penalty so the Russians won’t attack japan so easily?

Don’t forget the the US can get in Spain in 1 move. As said before, holding gibraltar doesn’t matter that much in that case as they will open up a whole new front in a very simple way.

    • RE: Axis J1 attack on U.S. - What is wrong with this strategy?

Axis need to grow in the game. Therefor keeping the US out as long as possible could be crucial to winning the game. The axis need the initiative. Once you lose that, you’ll probably lose the game.

Your attacks and tactics seem good (and they are) but I don’t think they will be useful in the long run.

Also attack truely neutrals can give the british advantages in africa by capturing mozambique and angola and the allies can get a lot of IPC’s in south america. Also the deal with Turkey is that once you lose it, the allies have another front opened into Europe that is easily accessible (no need for transports).

Axis usually need a quick game to win. If the USA can enter the war early (and frnakly, the loss of the philipines, hawaii and midway aren’t that big of a deal to USA, especially because they will probably recapture Hawaii the next turn or the one after that), they will intervene too quickly.

The losses you described for the USA in your attacks will be recovered too quickly.

But honestly, I’ve never tried a J1 attack on USA. I usually keep them out until they can declare war on me so I don’t really know if it can work. I also think Japan won’t make enough IPC’s to face the US and the others in a confrontation so early.

    • RE: Paratroopers

I’m just gonna stick with bombers carrying only paratroopers during combat-move fase. I think this won’t change the game too much and keep it as balanced as it is now. I’m afraid if we’ll add planes that can move 6 spaces and land infrantries they could be defending leningrad one turn, cairo the next, gibraltar on the 3rd and cairo on the 4th again. Wich is really not the point imho.
