    • RE: How do you play AAP40 with 3.9 alpha rules?

      @wittman:

      Alpha 3.9 is written for Global so there are 18 Russian inf on the Pacific map. I cannot see how we can play Pacific and ignore them. If they are there then Japan is not so free to rampage through China before a DOW. Have not seen 3.9 state US cannot move as you say. I Read cannot end turn adjacent to Japanese controlled territories. Hope you are right. Have you a link? Thanks

      AAP40 was there before global and it was a great game. I’m looking for the game where it is japan vs UK, ANZAC, China and USA. I don’t see how Russia would even work without having a VC. Maybe you never played it before?

      And you are correct about the US movement restriction. It’s not that bad I guess.

      @wittman:

      Agree US should get 40 bonus when at war and give them the SBR from Central US too. I believe the 18 Russian Inf must be placed on the map to start though.

      Russia? There’s no Russians in AAP40.

      Also Forbid US player from going more than one hex West or South of Hawaii. They should not be allowed to skulk by Australia awaiting a Japanese DOW. India  also needs one more NO.

      I think this states in the alpha 3.9 rules that US can’t stop in a sea zone unless in front of their own islands when not at war.

    • How do you play AAP40 with 3.9 alpha rules?

      We’re thinking of playing AAP40 again because Global takes too long and we’ve been playing AAE40 for too long. So I’m thinking what rules you guys use and wich works out the best for you?

      I’m thinking of something like this:

      Alpha 3.9 setup and OOB NO’s for USA?

      In AAE40 we also use a system like this, keep the USA OOB NO’s and alpha 3.9 setup.

      Anyone who plays AAP40 with alpha 3.9 rules?

    • RE: Optimal g1

      My optimal G1 is as followed:

      buy: 3 artillery + 6 infrantry and put it on Berlin.

      Take south of france with 3 mechs and 1 tank(this gives the germans a foot in the meds). Put all units in range of Paris to attack Paris, backed by 2 tactical bombers. Take Finland. Take Bulgaria. Take Yugoslavia with all units in range of it.

      Attack the british fleet at SZ100 with all aircrafts and battleship available and pray to god that UK scrambles so I can take out their airforce. (leave the rest unharmed with my airfoce, I can strike them next round again as I intend to keep all my planes on the western front).

      destroy the DD and transport with subs in range of the coast of canada.

      noncombat all units that didn’t move towards the Russian front.

      All my purchases up to G3 are all infrantry and artillery and on G3 I’ll also purchase mechs, seeing how it goes on the eastern front. Russia is my main objective. I don’t use any planes on the eastern front except maybe for my 2 strategical bombers IF I have enough planes left on the western front the remaining rounds and if UK has something valuable to attack. If they manage to get too much vessels and my casualties would be disastrous, I’ll just let UK sit there and pull back with my planes to Russia. Allies can’t invade at least until US5 (and then my defence would still be way too strong in the West), so I can focus all on Russia.

      @theROCmonster:

      If you think allies have the advantage your axis players suck.

      Ok tell that to better players here on the forum.

      Nice try. :lol:

      completely agree… I’ve played many games and the Axis do have the advantage simply because they are in position.

      @Cow:

      not really. the 3 minors off russia and germany itself is good enough. you got to do at least 10 to west germany and 3 to france which is fine.

      ehm we’re talking about a J1 or J2 attack here… Germany won’t have ANY of the minor IC’s from Russia. So their only functional IC is the one in Germany by G3 (or G4). Therefor the USA is still able to land in Novgorod and make a bombing run back to the UK while bombing Germany again. The IPC’s Germany has to spend to be able to buy some units to attack Russia are way too valuable.

      Unless you’re going all out on a pacific victory, I don’t think pulling the USA in the war too soon, is advisable.

      Also because Japan is a lot weaker compared to OOB and has an extra front with Russia compared to the Pacific stand alone version.

      @Cow:

      You can SBR west germany but not germany… where will you land if you bomb germany?

      Japan is still strong, any half decent japan player can force USA to spend at least half his income on the pacific to stop you from taking all the VCs necessary for a pac win.

      You don’t need to bomb Germany, bombing all the other IC’s from Germany is enough. That way Germany has a hard time reinforcing western-europe or Italy and has to spend less IPC’s on Russia.

      @Cow:

      germany/italy can hold their own. What can USA possibly do to them? Takes awhile to get a fleet strong enough to hold sz 97 or drop enough men to cause trouble.

      buy some bombers and SBR germany and possibly italy into rubble, depending on what the allies still have in the meds. SZ 97 isn’t the answer btw to an allied victory. I always put up a US fleet strong enough in SZ 100 (I think? the channel) to protect 5 UK transports and ferry 10 troops across each turn while I keep SBR’ing Germany with enough bombers. If I could do this from turn 2 or turn 3, some axis player would make me really happy, let alone turn 1. Offcourse one would have to consider the Pacific but with Japan weakened since OOB rules and now an extra Russian front, they don’t move that swiftly as they do in OOB.

      @Axisplaya:

      @Rhey:

      On the Pacific board, Japan can’t make a move until the USA is in war.

      This is probably why you got so much trouble with the pacific theater.
      If Japan Wait J4 to start attacking, then yeah, they’re in big trouble…

      but if they don’t, Germany and Italy are in big trouble.

    • RE: Alpha 3.9 Favors Axis

      In our games it seems that the Axis are always in advantage on the Europe board and the Allies on the Pacific board. The Axis just roll up Russia and defending Western Europe is too easy even if the Americans are comming.

      On the Pacific board, Japan can’t make a move until the USA is in war. When that happens the Allies will have a lot of infrantries on the mainland and Japan will have too little ground forces (as they couldn’t make enough IPC’s before allowing the Americans in the war, wich is crucial to keep them out because of the Europe board).

    • RE: Collect Income clarification

      well the best thing is to play with fake money bills. Otherwise it’s too hard to follow. I know both of those games don’t come with fake money bills so it’s hard to follow up.

      If Germany has 40 IPC’s and they capture France, they add up +4 and earn 44 IPC’s in the collect income round phase. They can use these 44 IPC’s in their next purchase phase. France has 17 IPC’s and lose 4 so their amount is on 13 IPCs. On France turn, they start with 17 to spend (the amount they had at the end of their last turn). Their IPC value is 13 but they can still collect 17 the next round if they retake France (or any other territorry with 4 IPC’s of value). If they don’t, they collect 13 IPCs.

      However this is a bad example as when Germany captures France, Germany takes all of their money and France can not collect any income anymore :p

      Or an American invasion map. The UK and Russia both lost to the axis powers. While fighting some smaller battles in Africa and the middle east, they now focus on taking over the Americas. With the only ally to be Argentina on the Americas mainland, they now face a coalition of the remaining American powers with the United States, Canada and Brazil as the most important ones.

    • RE: How many players use house rules with regularity?

      @Field:

      Rhey - I read through your Finland house rule and it is too much change for me - particularly the 70+ IPC’s worth of units added to Russia to give balance.  But that is just me - looks like your group enjoys it.  I think that Germany needs to work more to create a northern flank and pressure on Russia by shuttling troops north of Lenningrad through Norway.  Wondering if the extra Russian troops deter Germany from an earlier Barbarossa?

      Well to be fairly honest, there really is no difference. Germany usually starts barbarossa G3 and finland follows. We sometimes even think that adding finland is an advantage for the axis. They have a minor IC close to Norway and Leningrad. The extra units of Russia counter the extra troops of Finland. We usually don’t really see a lot of difference with the games we had without finland. I’d say give it a try if you can. It is cool :D

      3 axis sides

      Do you mean 4?

      Yeah 4 when we play global but we usually never do. We usually play Europe 1940 with alpha rules. Global takes waaay too long :D

      We always use our own finland rule. I put it up a couple of weeks ago. It’s really fun to have 3 axis sides and it’s still balanced. That’s the only house rule we use.

      Anybody actually ever made a succesfull quick attack into Russia and captured moscow after 4 rounds of starting barbarossa?

      If I spearhead through Russia, I always lose valuable units and get stuck before moscow. I always go for a wide front approach (including invading through finland, where those transports that you buy to fake sealion come in handy) and try to bleed Russia to death.

      I’ve always dreamt of a game with Finland in it

      Didn’t you post house rules for a “greater Finland” set up? I really liked it and plan to use it in my future games.

      yeah that was me. They are a cool addition to the game but they don’t do anything significant like Germany or Italy tho. They fight on the northern territories and chase the allies out of Norway but that’s it actually. Therefor I’d really like to see a game where the Fins play an even more important role.
