      Why no British naval base in Aden?

      @GrizzlyMan:

      If there had to be a historical mistake on the AAE game, I think leaving out the Aden naval base would be the one i’d choose (along with making Sierra Leone neutral… it doesn’t affect the game at all)

      The one I’d choose is have the RN able to survive G1

      Is that French aircraft carrier ever going to actually be built?

      Oops, I guess you would just use the Italians….ok maybe fancy Chinese units :) I’ll try not to miss the obvious next time I post. Seriously, for those who get Italian and Russia piece colors mixed up, blue would be obvious in a homemade aa50.

      Lets say you kept Italians in this set , and split the French pieces so you could have two games going…aae40 and aa50Homemade. Its a stretch.

      Back to the point of this forum, I can see the option for France to build a carrier if they are not taken round 1…an Idea I have posted for speeding up a Russian invasion potentially. Granted it would probably be sank, but it could be built, now how about that French Battleship? :)

      I do mind these things, and will be posting on this soon.

      Sierra Leone was an important Atlantic base for the UK, being it’s most westerly large colony in Africa.

      However is does seem bizarre that warts like Rio de Oro and Portuguese Guinea are included while much larger and more important colonies have been left out.

      Why isn't Mexico pro-allied neutral?

      @Flashman:

      For us history pedants I’m putting together a spreadsheet detailing the historical allegiances of each Global40 territory as of June 1st in 1939, 1940, 1941 & 1942.  May add December 1941 to this.

      Some problems here, for example do I treat “Bessarabia” as Bessarabia proper (Romanian in 1940) or Transnistria?

      Also, Poland in 1939: strict neutral or pro-Allied?  Can we treat the Soviet invasion of East Poland as Stalin “activating” a friendly territory?

      My Global 1940 map analysis contains dates that might be useful for your project:

      Why no Belgian roundel on Congo?

      I solved this problem on my map by making the Congo an impassable jungle zone; the coastal strip is given to Angola.

      There are so many problems with the roundels used (USSR is a fantasy, Italy is the Allied design, Canada maple leaf appeared post war, DEI should be orange triangle etc. etc. etc.) that griping about Congo is spitting in the face of a hurricane.

      I also think there should be more islands in the north Atlantic, south Atlantic and Indian Oceans as landing strips for aircraft, particularly if you’re going to include the likes of Malta and Cyprus so close to land.
