    • RE: Sub transport with 2 inf dropping on island, island defended by 1 sub

      @Krieghund:

      If the defender scrambles, the defending sub can’t be ignored by the attacker.  It’s still up to the defender whether the sub will fight or submerge.

      And this is because there is no destroyer present. In any case like this the defending sub will have the option.

      I feel that this is a very open ended question. You can really do any of those things, and not necessarily only one of them all of the time. The game of A&A is a reactionary game. You must be able to account for many things happening and you must be able to think turns in advance while adapting your strategies to the outcome of decisive battles. I like to think of A&A much like the game of chess. You must be able to think many turns in advance. Leaving units behind can be a good move depending on your individual situation.

      A dice tower allows for a player to drop his or her dice into the top, where it travels down (while spinning on different slanted shelving) resulting in an even roll usually in a felt tray at the bottom. Some player prefer this because it seems more even across the board for all player taking the manual (hand)l rolling out of it.

      Honestly I have come to like the “Dark Skies” strategy but with my own little twist. In reality you don’t need more than about 10 bombers maybe even 8 would do the trick. For me the Luftwaffe is the key to German success, and this has been tried and true for me. I try to stack the eastern front, while building planes in Western Germany. This threatens the UK keeping them occupied, and with the range of the bombers, even a small amount of German ground units can be effective. For instance if Germany only had 10 infantry (from Berlin) and a few artillery with maybe a tank or two push for Novgorod and used 10 bombers in support, it would take a hell of alot or Russian troops to stop that. Further and further into the game, Germany produces Mechs and Tanks to push push push while the Luftwaffe just decimates anything in its path. I think that the proper G1 purchase is a destroyer, transport, and Heavy Bomber. The following turn with around 70 IPC’s you can purchase 5 Heavy Bombers and a tank or two. This would put you already at 8 bombers as well as plenty of fighters and tacs to handle business. It becomes very difficult for Russia to stop a strong Luftwaffe.

    • RE: RULE CLARIFICATION: Italy DOWs Moves to E. Poland - Germany Moves Doesn't DOW

      @PainState:

      @Requester45:

      I have to disagree with the last few posts. Unless Germany is going to take 5 or more IPC’s worth of territories from Russia on turn 3, it makes more sense to not DOW. Germany would get the 5 IPC’s and have a better positioning for a push in any direction in Russia. It’s not just Eastern Poland that they could move into. If Italy wanted, they could move into the Baltic States, followed by Germany, resulting in awesome positioning for Germany on turn 4. They could then expand outwards on turn 4 to grab more IPC’s from Russia effectively making it worth it to DOW if Russia hasn’t. However Russia will inevitably DOW Germany, which is fine because they really couldn’t do anything to Germany, and Germany wouldn’t care because they would be attacking Russia turn 4 anyway. This would also put Italy’s tank in an awesome position on turn 4 because after the German advance (most likely into either the Ukraine or Novgorod) it could move into either Archangel or Rostov. Moving into Archangel would take away 5 IPC bonus from Russia, and moving into Rostov poses a threat to the middle east. Russia could take the Italian tank out the following turn, however this would be detrimental because at that point they would need all of the defensive units they could get. So strategically speaking this new strategy makes sense and I feel as though we will see alot of it.

      Requester: I think you are confused on this discussion.

      The original question was can Italy DOW on Russia, then have German Units move in to Italian controlled territories which would prevent Russia from attacking the Italians because they have German units (who they are not at war with) stacked with them.

      That question was already answered that if Italy DOW’s Russia then that frees up Russia to declare war on Germany on their turn.  So, it is a mute point.

      What you described is classic Italy “can opening” for Germany. This concept is not new and is used all the time by the German/Italian player.

      I’m not sure if you have followed all of my comments, but I am not confused in the slightest. As I had said I think that it makes sense for Germany to not DOW, and collect the bonus IPC’s. I was saying this because someone had said that it was pointless for Germany not to DOW. I said that it makes sense, if you don’t take 5 or more IPC’s worth of territory.

      Yes it is at war with Japan which lifts its restrictions against Japan only. The US would need to be at war with Germany and Italy as well (all axis powers) in order to land in friendly territories. This would include the Pacific side of the map. The US while only at war with Japan, can only attack Japan and move its navy into sea zones other than the ones off of the coast of US territories.

      Europe rule book Pg. 22 Under Where Units Can Move Air Units: “An air unit must end its move in an eligible landing space. Air units can land in any territory that was friendly (but not friendly neutral) at the start of the current turn.” further down it says " If your power isn’t at war, you can’t move your air units into territories or onto aircraft carriers belonging to another friendly power."

      if the United States lands units in the UK, it is a DOW on Germany and Italy.

      I believe the US would need to declare war on Germany in order to put its units in the UK. It can Dow Germany after a J1 because it has the ability to declare war on any Axis power after an unprovoked DOW.

      Good point YG. The rules have been cleared up, and there would be no reason for the Soviet Union to not declare war. In the case that they dont, they cannot attack a territory with German units.

      @happynewyear1945:

      the issue I have then, strictly speaking is this;

      1. Italy Dow Russia, combat moves into a Russian territory,
      2. germany non combats 1 unit into Italy’s occupied space in Russia,
      3. Russia attacks the Italian occupied space…
      4. Russia has not declared war on Germany,
      5. what happens with the German combat unit?

      As I previously stated, the rules show that the Soviet Union cannot attack a territory containing a German unit, meaning they wouldn’t be able to attack Italy.
