Perhaps it is as simple as removing some of the decision making from the game. For example, instead of purchasing, you can use a reinforcement chart like D-Day and Bulge, with an optional rule to build yourself (for more “advanced” players). The map would look normal, with IPC values, but using the “quick” ruleset would mean those values are irrelevant except for economic victory.

Most Holy, this isn’t the 1941 forum. Also, you can pre-order 1941 already, so it isn’t a hoax. Moving on…

It makes sense. Basically, they are pushing 1942 “upmarket” with new sculpts, a bigger map, etc, and introducing a “real” starter version.

I completely disagree with postponing the truck to add paratroopers. In the scale of A&A, airborne troops are rarely used, but a truck (motorized inf, move 2) unit is incredibly useful.

IL, remember that running parts using old molds is very cost-effective.

RE: The New Sculpts…posted in Axis & Allies 1941
If we go by IL’s supposition that the 5 named sculpts in 1942 are the same as 5 of the unmentioned 8 sculpts, we have:
Confirmed Sculpts:
US
P-40 Warhawk
UK
AVRO Lancaster
HMS Hood
“Artillery”
“Submarine”
“Destroyer”USSR
IS-2 Tank
“Submarine”Germany
Tiger Tank
FW-190
He-111
"“Artillery”Japan
Akagi Aircraft Carrier
–---------------
I find this rather unlikely, leaving two powers completely overhauled (UK & Germany) while the US, Japan, and to some extent Russia are nearly untouched. However, we shall see…

I disagree, IL. Look at the wording in both flyers - 5 “All New” sculpts would not be all new if they appeared in another game. Also, it makes financial sense NOT to put the same mix in both, so that people have an incentive to buy both.

RE: The New Sculpts…posted in Axis & Allies 1941
Disrespect? Disrespect would be releasing the game without any new content.
I understand where you are coming from, and I see arguments like yours constantly (“I bought my super BMW/Mercedes and the new model has 50 more HP! How dare they!”). Every manufacturer has to differentiate their product from previous iterations, else no one will buy it. Also, it is much more likely that a person will be a repeat buyer than a brand new customer for any given product, as it is a much tougher sell to have someone buy something without any previous experience with the product.
All in all, I’m glad that we have the opportunity to buy 21 new sculpts (I don’t think the 16 and the 5 new sculpts will overlap). Whether we take advantage of that opportunity is up to us. If WotC wanted to release a super 1939 game with 200 unique new sculpts and powers, and charge $2000, I would still be happy, even though I most probably would not buy the product. Opportunities can never be a bad thing, as long as no one forces you to buy the product.

They are probably working on the 1940 series.
One note - in both of the flyers, they say “all new” sculpts, which leads me to believe the 16 sculpts in 1941 and the 5 in 1942 do not overlap (which makes sense from a marketing perspective).
So that means 21 new sculpts!

RE: The New Sculpts…posted in Axis & Allies 1941
Vance…
I think it makes perfect sense. A game that retails for $20 will get 5 new sculpts, and another at a slightly higher retail gets 16 new sculpts (I don’t think they will overlap). It’s a free market, and a brilliant idea. If you want the new units, buy the games.
I really don’t see anything wrong with that. They are trying to increase sales of the 1942 version, including to players who already own it. Therefore, they need to offer something “extra” to entice those players.
If they instead followed your concept of packing ALL the new units into the new 1941 game, they would sell less total games, which means less profit, which means less likelihood of new A&A games coming out.
Again, I have no problem with the strategy.

RE: The New Sculpts…posted in Axis & Allies 1941
18. (In IL’s list)
4 new US
3 new Japan
4 new UK
4 new German
3 new USSR= 18

RE: The Detailsposted in Axis & Allies 1941
I’m with IL, the evidence points to the 370 pices with the 160 being new pieces.
In that case, however, there are probably new inf piece for all nations, as I don’t see WotC giving us 10+ new pieces of each new sculpt (Akagi? Hood? He-111?) unless there are 18-20 inf and 6 each of the other two new sculpts.
-
The New Sculpts…posted in Axis & Allies 1941
Ok, so we have 16 new sculpts for 5 nations.
I’m going to work off the estimate of 3 new sculpts per nation, with one nation getting an extra.
Confirmed Sculpts:
US
P-40 Warhawk
UK
AVRO Lancaster
HMS HoodUSSR
IS-2 Tank
Germany
Tiger Tank
FW-190
He-111Japan
Akagi Aircraft Carrier
–-----------------
It looks like we have the entire German lineup. I’m going to assume no new infantry sculpts (although I could easily be wrong and that would be 5 of the remaining 8 unknown sculpts.
Consider the lineup of possible choices:
Infantry
Artillery
Armor
Fighter
Bomber
Transport
Submarine
Destroyer
Cruiser
Battleship
Aircraft CarrierAs mentioned, my opinion is that infantry sculpts will remain unchanged. So that leads us to the following observations, if there are no comments I didn’t think the chances of a sculpt change were high. I didn’t think that naval sculpts were as high a priority of being changed, only 25% of the confirmed sculpts are naval. (Bold = confirmed choice):
US
Artillery
Armor - potential change to an M3 Stuart or M26 Pershing
Fighter -P-40 Warhawk
Bomber - BIG chance this could change to a B-25 or B-29
Transport
Submarine
Destroyer
Cruiser
Battleship - Potentially Colorado class
Aircraft CarrierMy vote: P-40 Warhawk, B-25, Colorado Class BB
UK
Artillery - Potentially a QF 25lber
Armor - Potential for a Valentine or Churchill
Fighter - Hawker Hurricane
Bomber - AVRO Lancaster
Transport
Submarine
Destroyer
Cruiser - HMS Hood
Battleship
Aircraft CarrierMy vote: AVRO Lancaster,HMS Hood, QF 25lber
USSR
Artillery - I think that they are going to go for a Katyusha, but this is a wildcard
Armor - IS-2 Tank
Fighter - Polikarpov I-16
Bomber
Transport
Submarine
Destroyer
Cruiser
Battleship
Aircraft CarrierMy vote: Tough choices, the ships were refreshed for '42 so no changes there, IS-2 Tank, Polikarpov I-16, and Arty?
Germany
Artillery
Armor - Tiger Tank
Fighter - FW-190
Bomber - He-111
Transport
Submarine
Destroyer
Cruiser
Battleship
Aircraft CarrierMy vote: Easy… Tiger Tank,FW-190,He-111
Japan
Artillery
Armor - Type 97 Chi-Ha
Fighter - Ki-84 “Frank”
Bomber
Transport
Submarine
Destroyer
Cruiser
Battleship - Kongo Class
Aircraft Carrier - Akagi Aircraft CarrierMy vote: Akagi Aircraft Carrier , Ki-84 “Frank” ,Kongo Class
That leaves us with the extra sculpt… and I think that it will be either US or Japanese. My votes are M3 Stuart or Type 97 Chi-Ha
Thoughts?

Yavid, I think if you scroll through the various topics that HBG has laid out (Russia, France, etc), you will see that he is making most of your suggestions.

RE: Italian tanks?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
I have 22 of the Italian Anniversary Edition tanks - I wheeled and dealed to get those, buying a couple sets on eBay and swapping the tanks with Panthers. I had it in my description that the tanks were different but it didn’t affect resale value one bit.

RE: Next Sets from Historical Board Gamingposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
Lunar, yes it will be run in Plum.
The French provided a lot of assistance to the Spanish Republic during the Civil War. Also, by running the Russian and French set in Plum, it gives you another color to use as neutrals/other powers as you wish.
HBG likes to make different sets in the same color to allow you to mix and match. For example, if you want to use Yellow for Romania or Spain, you can use the Axis Minors Yellow and the Early War German Yellow and combine the sets for a larger unit mix.
