    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

I realize that this is Jeremy’s project, not ours, and he has every right to do whatever colors he wishes…

But I’ve never liked the idea of matching the pieces to the FMG dice. Changing the color of the Italians was fine, and possibly ANZAC, but leave the rest as they are.

      13th,

The Nationalist “X” roundel was only used for a few aircraft. A better representation is the Spanish Red/Yellow/Red flag, or roundel version.

Tiger, on the other thread coach and I discussed it and came up with a neat solution:

Keep the portuguese roundels, keep the current red/yellow roundel for the Nationalists, and add the Red/yellow/blue roundel for the republicans.

The black Nationalist X is removed, and now the set can be used both for Spanish Civil War games as well as the 1939 variants

      Coach,

I posted in your other thread but I wanted to make sure you saw this and could correct before printing.

Your Spanish set has the wrong Republican roundel - you have the Nationalist version instead. The Republican roundel had a blue/purple center:

World’s Forge was willing to do a special run for me of the Bren Carriers, color matched to the UK A&A 1940 colors. I just need to order 200-300 pieces.

Any interest here? Figure $2 a piece.

      Jack,

      Any news on the French?

That would be a moneymaker, I think.

Cminke, are you selling them? Because I will buy them all.

If you are buying… it is considered rather impolite to hijack someone else’s thread

    • Travel Axis & Allies set?

I’ve been toying with the idea of creating a travel Axis & Allies game. Obviously, it would have to be a tiny map (I’m thinking 12" x 12") and would probably be only two powers. The whole set would fit into a small plastic box, with storage compartments.

Any ideas? I think something along the lines of D-Day would be best - limited amount of units, cards used for turns. I think that this might actually work as a beginner’s intro to Axis & Allies as well. The only catch is that I can’t, for the life of me, figure out what battle to base it on. Anyone care to give me some inspiration? Land battles with minor air support only, please.

      Johnson, not that argument again!

So the French wore blue uniforms in WWII? And the Japanese had orange uniforms? I don’t really remember maroon uniforms for Russia…

This game is an abstraction. If we had exact uniform colors for all the countries you wouldn’t be able to tell the units apart.

      I second what knp said.

I know Italy is already molded - what is done is done. But the next countries should have accurately scaled pieces.

    • Review of historicalboardgaming.com IPC Certificates + V2 Rockets

I ordered some infantry units from www.historicalboardgaming.com and the owner, Doug, threw in a set of production certificates as I was his first customer.  :-D

I wanted to review them for those of you who might be interested, so here goes:

      Production Certificates

At last! For those of us who have been sadly missing the production certificates that used to be included in each Axis & Allies game, the time has come! Doug, “coachofmany” on the forums here, has invested his money and produced these production certificates for us, and they are well worth the $6.95 cost.

For that price, you receive 120 bills (60 Ones, 20 Fives, 20 Tens, 20 Twenties), and they are a masterpiece! They are roughly the same size as the Axis & Allies certificates, being about 3mm wider and 2mm shorter - nearly identical. However, the quality is much better than the A&A IPC certificates. Each denomination represents a different faction or side, with the Ones representing the Allies, the Fives representing the Axis, the Tens displaying the British, and the Twenties the Americans. There are background images that are part of each bill, such as a production line, a parade, or a flight of airplanes. These are melded in perfectly, and the scrollwork on the sides is excellent.

Honestly, the artwork alone is much better than that used in the A&A IPC’s, including those in the “deluxe” A&A Anniversary edition. For the price that they are at, they can’t be beat, and this is really a high quality item that any A&A player should have in his gamebox.

      German Rockets

Doug has found a supply of these black rockets, made of hard plastic by Rolco. They are great as V2 rocket pieces, and match the German colors nicely. For only $0.15, they are a steal - one can buy a set of 10 for $1.50! These are a also a must buy along with the certificates.

HBG is also coming out with custom printed roundels in the future, that will be thick cardboard and will match the Axis & Allies Europe 1940 counters. Quote:

“These will include Finland, Romania, India, Canada (2 versions), Union Jack, South Africa, Hungary, Bulgaria, Free French, Communist China, Poland,Australia, and redo the thin Roundels from Pacific (ANZAC, Japan, China).”

These are great products, folks - oh, and the packing and delivery times are superb - my 60 infantry arrived perfectly packed, in great shape, and within 5 days!
