      As @Colt45-554 mentions, Global 40 2nd and Balanced Mod 3 of it are by far the most popular here on A&A org with their own league that is very active playing on TripleA: https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/category/29/league. After that its kind of a assortment of mostly TripleA custom maps like Napoleonic Empires, Domination 1914 NML, World at War (WaW), LOTR, etc.

      On the Online TripleA lobby, the most popular maps are probably in this order: revised (v2), Global 40, World at War (WaW), New World Order (NWO), Total World War, Big World, and anniversary (v3).

      As @Panther mentions, most of the custom TripleA maps don’t exist as a physical board game. So the best way to learn is play against the AI.

      If you want something similar to classic and like playing online then revised (v2) is probably your best bet. If you prefer playing PBF/PBEM then Global 40 is your best bet but it is more complex and a longer game. But the best thing to do is try a bunch of different maps out to see what you like.

      @aequitas-et-veritas You can update and still continue any existing games without issues. You’ll get some visual improvements for existing save games but won’t get the bug fixes and balance changes until you start a new game.

      @djensen If you want to enable attachments to posts you can go to the admin settings at /admin/settings/uploads. Glancing at things I don’t believe that should impact the write API plugin that TripleA uses either way but not positive.

      Well good game fellas though I think we can all agree this map favored Entente a bit. The good news is I released a new version v1.4 that should balance things a bit and change log is here: https://forums.triplea-game.org/topic/1399/domination-1914-no-man-s-land-official-thread. So please make sure to update to that before we start a new one.

      I’m fine swapping sides and starting up a new one either 2v2 or 3v3 depending on how many interested parties we have. You are welcome to bring as many Brits as you need to try and defeat us proud Americans!

      Hit differential is just 1 way of trying to have some sort of measure of “luck”. Its far from perfect but better than nothing IMO which was why I decided to add it. Each dice roll and battle have different strategic importance which is close to impossible to capture in any automated way.

      I have considered adding a sort of TUV differential as well (actual TUV outcome of all battles - expected TUV outcome of all battles) but one problem with this is that its no longer a purely mathematical statistic as it takes into account casualty selection. Example being if you attack a stack of units that has say bombers then the battle calculator is optimized to try for best win percentage not best TUV swing where as a player may choose to save bombers longer than the battle calc chooses. This can cause somewhat subjective choices in casualty selection and the battle calc may not select the best which skews the TUV differential. This is even more drastic for maps that are more complex than Global such as Total World War as casualty selection is much less automatic and requires more thought.

      @Adam514 - For Global and other standard A&A maps, I’d probably agree with you as the OOL tends to be fairly standard and doesn’t deviate that much. There are other TripleA maps where it does due to the complexity of the unit sets. That being said since the standard A&A maps are pretty popular on TripleA, it probably would be worth adding TUV differential as well.

      @Wittmann Yeah, Russia is really lacking any attack power on the Eastern Front to advance. But with KFF, Germany should be weak everywhere else for the Entente to take advantage and press them to try and divert resources from France.

      At this point, France doesn’t really have many options. It essentially needs to max defend and hope the UK can reinforce them. They need every unit possible in Paris to have any chance to hold off Germany. All those french units in italy and africa won’t mean much if Germany is parading its tanks down the streets of Paris.

      @Whackamatt I believe since WaW is primarily based on revised rules that you actually can’t retreat any land units from a battle that involves any amphibious attackers (and yes this is one of those rules that varies from A&A version to version). Here is the revised excerpt:
      “The land combat is handled like any other combat, except that attacking land units cannot retreat (not even if they came from adjacent territories or moved there over land).”

      I’m open to allowing the edit given the misunderstanding of the rules and the fact you retreated your fighter after the first round. Though one of the reasons I didn’t move more units into Donetsk is you needed the amphib to get decent odds and I was fairly certain you wouldn’t take the 50/50 gamble since you then couldn’t retreat.

      @Panther Can you confirm that is the amphibious retreat rules for revised?

      Finally feel like I got some revenge on Japan for sinking the US fleet in round 4. Probably too little, too late but at least made me feel better :)

      Also, I forgot that you can’t build factories on islands in G40 so just changed it to a bomber. Let me know if there’s any issue with that.

      @Elrood Yeah, my plan was to pressure Japan enough to take the South Pacific and control India. Then turn to deal with Germany. Unfortunately, losing most of the US fleet in the Carolines delayed that by probably 4-5 turns which meant game over. We really should have just resigned after the Caroline mistake.
