@jmkinki You can also play TripleA versus the AI opponent for a solo experience. Obviously different then a true solitaire type version but might have more variation and fun.

If you guys need a replacement for a new game, I’d be interested. I think @Wittmann would vouch for me.

RE: how do i play a gameposted in Player Help
@usmc3537x You just need to download TripleA: https://triplea-game.org/download/
Then you can download the maps from in game after installing and launching it. You can play against the AI, join the lobby to play live, or play by forum/email.
More detailed instructions can be found here: https://www.axisandallies.org/forums/topic/17147/gargantua-s-k-i-s-s-triplea-instructions

RE: Rail Movementposted in House Rules
You might want to take a look at Total World War which does show using rail within more of the axis & allies type system: https://triplea-game.org/map/total-world-war/
If you want something deeper then I’d recommend War in the East: https://store.steampowered.com/app/370540/Gary_Grigsbys_War_in_the_East/

RE: Revised Submerge/Withdraw Orderposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
@Panther Alright. Yeah, right now, TripleA offers it in this order for revised after combat rolls:
- Attacker submerge?
- Defender submerge?
- Attacker retreat?
This causes the problem that it gives the defender to opportunity to submerge which then would prevent the attacker from being able to retreat.
I’m going to update Triple to change the order it offers these options to:
- Attacker submerge?
- Attacker retreat?
- Defender submerge?

You can only bomb or capture trucks/trains. They are essentially treated like infrastructure units (factories, etc). You can also bomb rails so that trains can’t move.

RE: Avoiding Infantry blobs. Change their Cost to 3.2!posted in House Rules
@Grinchveld Yeah, its all essentially the same thing just slightly different ways of presenting it. In my experience, most people hate fractions/decimals. My guess is 2 reasons: 1. they kind of appear less clean and more complex then integers, 2. many people really struggle with even simple fraction/decimal math.

TripleA 1.9.0.0 Releasedposted in TripleA Support
Download it here: http://www.triplea-game.org/download/
Detailed Release notes: http://www.triplea-game.org/release_notes/
Some upgrade notes from 1.8: http://www.triplea-game.org/upgrade_notes/Some notable changes:
- smaller installation size, faster download
- faster download for maps, updated handling for them
- AI improvements
- game should run a bit faster and use less memory
- Some game play convenience changes, smarter transport loading and prompts, auto-clicking to continue battles when there is no decision to make (for example, previously a defender would have to click to confirm when an attacker had all hits. If you are defending with one infantry, a defender no longer has to click in battles for the action to proceed)
Development process and code hosting:
- code hosting has been moved fully out of source forge into github. We’ve picked up the pace of changes and have added some additional developers along the way. The source forge forum will be around for some time, but the admin team is looking for a replacement technology to unify the many community tripleA forums that are out there.
Goals for future releases:
- upgrade the UI code to a more modern version. The current UI technology has roots from the last century.
- allow true future compatibility of game saves. This will allow you to natively continue playing save games with updated game engines. Before the game would launch an old instance of itself, which can work sometimes, but is flawed since map compatibility is not handled very well.
- additional code simplification, this is going to allow us to add improve and add features at a more sustainable and even accelerated rate. (Today the code is a bit of a tangle, makes it overly time consuming to work with)
I suspect releases after that will be much more incremental and frequent, and will likely be much more feature oriented. New devs are able and willing to jump in are very welcome, and perhaps there might be some surprises in what folks may contribute to the code base.

@Wittmann If your dice email isn’t working then you just need to go here and register it: https://dice.tripleawarclub.org/. Only takes about 10 seconds so I think even an “English gent” can handle that :)
I’ll leave any balance adjustments or house rules to you fellas since I’m new to the party. Also if there are any existing house rules you have been using please let me know.

RE: Avoiding Infantry blobs. Change their Cost to 3.2!posted in House Rules
@Grinchveld FYI. There are many TripleA games and variants that change unit costs or revamp the unit roster all together. Some make infantry more expensive and some even make them cheaper. Generally its easier to keep units with pretty even costs so its easier to track so if you wanted less infantry then doing something like 2 inf for 7 IPC (3.5 per inf) would probably be reasonable and avoid all the side tracking.

RE: New TripleA with New Forums: "User does not exist" errorposted in TripleA Support
@Churchillian-Drift My initial thought is the period in your username could be causing issues (haven’t seen many users with periods in their names). Do you mind changing your username to one without periods and try posting with that (or create a new account with a username without periods)? And it is username not email address that should be used.
The one other thing you could try for the TripleA username field is “Churchillian-Drift” (replacing the period with a dash) as it seems the forum already does that in some places so could be expecting that instead.

RE: 1914: 3 English gents play the CP and 3 unruly Yanks play the Ententeposted in Team Games
@Private-Panic I can try :)
So the idea is to try and provide a general sense of how lucky/unlucky dice were for each player in relation to how many hits they got vs how many they should have got on average (hit differential). “Austria : -5.00” means that on average Austria should have gotten 5 more dice hits then they did across all the battles that turn. Its essentially a measure of how many hits you got compared to the average expected hits.
The easiest way to understand it is look at a single set of rolls for the first battle:
Battle in Bessarabia - Austria roll dice for 2 heavy_guns and 3 infantry in Bessarabia, round 2 : 1/5 hits, 1.50 expected hitsSo on average for that group of dice rolls, you should get 1.5 hits (2 * 2 + 3 * 1 + 2 support = 9 / 6 = 1.5). You only got 1 hit so you had a hit differential of -0.5 (1 - 1.5) for the group of rolls (slightly unlucky as you got half a hit less than on average). You then add up all these hit differentials to get the total hit differential for that turn.
This metric was mostly suggested by @Gargantua and a few others. Its a fairly decent metric of luck for a turn (generally better than just dice stats) though not perfect as often times some hits are much more important than others and usually early battle rounds matter more than later battle rounds (I’d rather be lucky in the first round of battle to kill off extra enemies that then don’t even get a chance to roll in later rounds).
All that being said, your result generally shows that Austria was pretty unlucky that turn and both Italy/Serbia had slightly above average luck.

RE: I'm enjoying Axis & Allies Onlineposted in Axis & Allies 1942 Online
@Imperious-Leader Have you tried the TripleA AI? Its fairly decent especially for newer players. It does exactly what you describe as it looks at the odds and tries to make the best attacks/defenses it can.

RE: Units not being rolledposted in TripleA Support
@BobbaRossa Ok. In that case, I’m about 95% sure that the bug you hit has already been fixed in 1.9.0.0.13066 but unfortunately if you started your game with an earlier version of TripleA the bug is part of the save game data so upgrading to the new version doesn’t resolve it (essentially the engine thinks the fighters are still on an allied carrier during an attack so it ignores them for battles).
To fix your current save game, you just need to edit out any air units which aren’t fighting properly in battles and add new ones in their place. If you edit remove/add all fighters on the map then you can ensure it shouldn’t occur again.
If you see this same issue in a new game started with 1.9.0.0.13066 then let please report it again and I’ll look further into it.
