    • RE: How should Japan try to save Europe?

      @Frank:

      I just played a 20+ hour game to a draw although I might of lost if it was played to conclusion. I sent the Japan Navy to Africa and protected Italy.  Italy then was spending close to the points of Germany.  The USA fleet battled the Japan fleet in the Med Sea and the Japan fleet destroyed it along with 17 US transports.  At this point Europe was Fortress that the US could never crack because I built mostly inf and art with Italy and Germany all game.  The problem is I was only able to destroy India and the Russian Inf.  China and Australia got out of hand because I did not kill them.  The Australians boarded transports and took some islands and china had a stack of like 40 inf.  We were at a point of after 20+ of play that I was not in position to get 14 victory cities but that I had about 200 inf art in Europe and America had to start a new fleet to come over to attack.  It was called a draw.

      The problem is that you would have lost if the game played out as a simple money thing. The allies have more to throw at the axis over time and they could have taken Japan out forcing Germany to attack with lots of 1’s  or sit back and watch Japan get killed and then over time wittle down Germany and Italy. It would have taken another 20 turns at least.

    • RE: Capturing Allied territories

      They go back to the player who had them at first even if that player doesn’t collect income. You pretty much just deny the income to the Axis player. France has to be taken back by the allies for France to start collecting income again for example. Unless the rules say otherwise.

      BTW, to save time, do you mind just playing Europe instead of Global?

      Yes. I haven’t played Global yet. Give me the links and I will start playing you tomorrow when I am more awake. Please PM me all the info I will need to know to start playing you. Its midnight here now and I need to get some sleep.

    • RE: UK - Production/Attack Turn 1?

      What the UK does is based on what they have left. Their fleet in the Med should run and hide if Germany kills the RN in the channel. Then they should build up to defend England and screw africa. Honestly the UK only cares about africa AFTER England is safe. Otherwise taking africa falls to the USA player.

    • RE: Italian appproach

      Italy needs to focus on taking africa if they do they can build their income up to around 35-40 IPC with the bonuses. That gives them some staying power and the ability to help Germany by attacking Russia’s belly. Germany is much more of an effective fleet block for the USA because of their subs. And honestly the USA can afford to lose 6 or so transports as long as their men make landfall your not disloging them.

      If you like, you can make just 1 move per day.

      They deliberately make the game so the axis have more advantages than they did historically. That’s why the entire RN in the North Atlantic can be killed G1.

      Link me to the map and I will play you assuming that I don’t have to download anything.

      Also look at how things are set up. Russia can’t attack till R4, America doesn’t go to war till U3…its meant to roughly(in a bad way) have a few turns be a year of real time. And had Germany done things differently they likely could have killed the RN in the North Atlantic. Remember that these figures don’t repersent single units but instead groups of units.

    • RE: Technology is a bad strategic investment

      USA can afford to spend money on tech and the fleet one would be very useful as they will need to control both oceans.

    • Cold War Situation

      This would only apply to the global game. But after a side wins(for the people really really into this game and with tons of time in their gaming group) has anyone thought about taking it to the next step? Maybe a fight between the allied powers(Russia vs USA and the UK) or if the axis powers win its even better as it would be Japan vs Germany and Italy to see who can control the world? Now for the allied version you would have to set up some sort of  house rules as Russia more then likely won’t have a fleet(unless Germany and Italy are taken and then Russia builds a fleet to help with Japan). You could give both sides all the advanced tech and let them fight it out. I think it would be a fun war as both sides have massive incomes and more then likely the UK and the USA would have part of Germany…or at least have freed France and stationed units there.

      @calvinhobbesliker:

      @RedHunter:

      Time still is on the allies side. Especially if Russia declares on Japan.A buddy of mine was telling me how he as Russia built up on the coast near Japan then declared on them and conquered Japan in 2 turns because the player thought Russia was building up in case Japan invaded them later on and left almost nothing near Japan.

      Russia conquered Japan in 2 turns? I hope you don’t mean the island of Japan since Russia has no transports that can reach the pacific before turn 10. Do you mean Japanese held China? With 18 inf, he conquered the Chinese coast in 2 turns? If Russia stacks the 18 inf in Amur, Japan can easily wipe them out. The only other things that can reach Amur that quickly are a few planes. I doubt 18 inf and a few planes conquered Japan in 2 turns.

      Sorry Russia cut off Japan’s income source and bombed the hell out of them…they pretty much allowed the USA to conquer Japan, much earlier then should have been possible. I didn’t mean that Russia directly conquered Japan only that they deserved the credit for it.

    • RE: Dusting off Operation:Hollywood..Will kill America first be an option like inAAR

      The biggest issue I see with this plan besides the 2 turns it takes to reach the USA which means that they get at least 1 turn to build up defenses on both coasts if they hadn’t already is that you have to declare on the USA to do it(Japan does if its early game) so they get their big war income plus whatever they can take in the time. Anyway back to that problem. Russia would declare on Japan and pour troops into China and the coast of Japan, they could work their way across the land and(at least in the other versions) given enough time Russia could build a fleet capable of taking Japan. The other thing is that Germany would be conquered by Russia easily.

      Btw the USA loses its war bonus if any of the USA is taken. So if they could take just one area and hold it…its possible. But the cost to take it would be horrible and they would get slammed with the remaining USA forces the next turn.

      All in all I don’t think its possible. Do let me know if it gets pulled off vs a skilled foe though.

      3 transports and launch your attacks with the aim of killing as much fleet as possible.
      And the game is unbalanced.

    • RE: Sea Lion A Success!!

      @Panz3r:

      I would not bother you in your discussions…
      but it is just a my opinion…
      Sealion is totally impossible with an experienced allied player.
      An experienced uk player can 'easily avoid and defeat all the German strategies.
      There is more…
      preparing sealion it’s a waste of time against the americans and russian supposing you will not declare war on russia during preparations for sealion.

      bye

      Sorry Germany can wipe England’s fleet and there is nothing England can do about it since Germany moves first. They can take England however holding it aganist American counter attacks down the road is another story.

      @calvinhobbesliker:

      @RedHunter:

      I have a hard time beliving that America can’t simply buy enough stuff to overpower German defenses in Europe. The issue is getting there because Germany should have a decent fleet contesting landings. The allied players were either 1. Playing stupidly repeatly or 2. Rolling really badly.  The allied should win 95% of the games all things being equal. This game is still heavly weighted in the favor of the allies.

      95%? Okay, why not play me online? I’ll be axis

      I don’t play online sorry. If they had a computer version with current rules and I had 5-8 hours to sit in front of a computer and play I would think about it.

      Also the game is weighted in favor of the allies because the allies won world war 2.

    • The comic book thread

      Sorry if this is already made but I didn’t see it. So we have a lot of geeks on this forum including me(especially me) and I would think that a lot of us read a lot. How many are into comics like I am? Now when I say into comics I don’t mean that I spend $1000’s on comics, I don’t have that kind of money but I will buy comic book collections from time to time. Recently I have been rereading the Marvel Secret Wars 12 comic mini series and in my mind its one of the best comic series of all time, at least ones made by Marvel.

      Oh and I am a HUGE spiderman fan always have been.

    • RE: Most decisive battle of the Second World War

      @GrizzlyMan:

      Midway. It completely reversed the balance of power in the Pacific. The Japanese fleet outnumbered the Americans heavily, and most importantly had superior aircraft and aircraft carriers. In only one battle the United States reversed completely and destroyed 4 Japanese CVs to the loss of only 1, and, after that point, the United States was on the offensive.
      Had one of the British powers folded, the US populance may have supported an early peace with Japan, which would be a major victory for the axis. Had Midway been a defeat for the Americans, or had it not taken place, the war would have ended very differently.

      I am sorry to inform you that your way off base with what your saying. Yomoto’s plan was to declare war BEFORE attacking the USA…that didn’t happen because they screwed up…he knew that he had a year and a half tops before the USA fleet grew to big to stop. He figured a win at midway would buy another year, enough to complete the build up and new weapons they were making. But even with a loss at midway we made too much stuff for Japan ever to win not to mention the bombs we were making. It would have bought Japan more time but in the end the result would have been the same.
