I voted the same way, for the same reasons, but don’t forget the new A20 planes, some are pretty good! :D

Hmmm, seems like cheating… but I guess this’ll work! :D

RE: New axis and alliesposted in Miniatures Scenarios
It’s pretty easy, though politically incorrect, to imagine an alliance of Muslim countries… add to the Euro Union, add the Sino Russian Conglomerate, add the Great American Coprosperity sphere, and you have 4 imaginable enemies, and with a South American dictator, or an Aussie monarchy, you could have even more! :D
The tricky part is finding units for them all, and making it fun yet partly realistic! :D

RE: New axis and alliesposted in Miniatures Scenarios
Vietnam War wouldn’t work well since it’s so one sided… asymmetrical warfare and all. So even the best cards for Viet Cong RPG’s couldn’t really do much damage to a Patton, even a Bradley or Duster! :D
Napalm is already houseruled into AAM HRR 4.0, very powerful, but expensive… so it would be hard to field a bombload of it! :D
My thinking is that the Korean War or a WWIII of China/Russia vs. UN/NATO would work, since dogfights, tank battles and squad to squad fighting were still used all the time. Good luck to any one who tries to make a ruleset for this, I’d like to playtest anything you come up with! :D

RE: Legacy 3 map pack?posted in Miniatures (Original)
I guess that makes sense… dreadfully annoying though… Maybe on a site this big you have more problems like that! ;)
I guess I’ll have to wait a while before I can post the Cartography thread. :D

RE: Legacy 3 map pack?posted in Miniatures (Original)
Yes, sorry, I made a mistake in the post above! :D
The Legacy Pack contains, IIRC, 2 Stalingrad ones (a 100m, and 10m), and one France one (10m). I think it comes with a lot of extra rules and scenarios for the maps like propaganda leaflets and sniper roosts… They look pretty cool, so if you can go ahead and get a set! :D
Here’s what they look like: (poor quality, sorry) Why won’t my pic links work on this site?

All the released HBF maps can be seen on there site (hard to navigate) or here:

RE: How do you guys use paratroopers?posted in Miniatures (Original)
At the most I get 2-3, so my tactics may differ. If you have more, it best to drop them in a spread to prevent enemy movement, but still keep them close to eachother.
Most often I either drop em early to get the most use out of them.
They work well either by entering behind enemy lines and taking commanders/artillery out, or landing on objective hexes or bridge to prevent early capture.
Sometimes I keep them back to face a threat the enemy has (Armored cars or apposing Paras/Heros. But for the most part they pop out pretty early! :D -
RE: Legacy 3 map pack?posted in Miniatures (Original)
Being an A&A cartographer I do know…
They are a registered third party maps produced by http://www.hbfronts.com/ (Historical Battle Fronts) They have like 8 different designs, but only a few were produced.
The Legacy Map pack ones are Gazala and Solomon Islands IIRC, and will work with the 3" AAM maps.
The other ones they’ve released are 2 Stalingrad, and one France map. I have small PNG’s for posting if you want to see them.
They are pretty good quality, but won’t work with the normal AAM maps.If you have any more map questions, I’ll try to answer them. :D

Give a man a brain and it goes straight to his head…
If they don’t release it we’ll look like fools, if they do… guess… ;)

RE: The Detailsposted in Axis & Allies 1941
Sounds cool! For $30 it’s a deal, and all the new pieces look great!
(Though the Tigers and IS-3’s look overpriced, the Avro is great, and the Hood seems to be to good for a BB…)
Can’t wait! :D -
RE: Should I buy this?posted in Air Force
Boosters are the best way to get a bunch of good units. But if you’re going for cheapness, eBay is better.
I plan to get a Starter and a case of Boosters, and then trade/ebay the rest. But if money is a problem, just hang around ebay! :D

RE: The Higgins boatposted in Miniatures (Original)
Like FM said, it’s only a scenario piece… yet some players fees that they need an entire armada of them! :D

RE: "Must-Haves"posted in Miniatures (Original)
The best database is:
(add a “w” at the front of this code) ww.tintirinti.com/search_AAM.aspxPolish Officer isn’t that bad, but I don’t find his SA that useful, and it should be priced at 5 points, but it is the only polski commander!
For Allied infantry, the Garand is “Grand”! ;) The british SMLE is the best for average units, (the Canadian version is the same, but earlier [1939 instead of 1940]) the US Untested Recruit is nice for a 2 point unit.
Other nice ones are the Thomson SMG, the BEF Infantry, Bufalo Soldier <- (my #1), Marine Riflemen, Guards infantry, Siberian Shock Troops, and the PPsh-41, all nice units for their points! :D (a few more, but not as good for their points)Check the database for units you want to know about, and the connected sites Forumini, and the A&AUnderground. They’ll give you a good grasp of what you’ll need! :D

RE: "Must-Haves"posted in Miniatures (Original)
There are to many “good” units to name them all, but I think that most players will agree that you need a lot of vanilla infantry. (2-4 points line troops, for normal builds. Then you’ll want 2 or 3 of all the artillery, machine guns and commanders. (Except for a few like the Chinese or Polish ones, most you’ll use pretty often!) :D
For infantry, the “nice” ones are Hero’s, Paratrooers and Elite’s (5/5 defense line troops like the Ranger, SNLF Fanatic, and SS Panzergrenadier to name a few). For MG’s most nations have 1, and they all are pretty good, even the Chinese one! :D Commanders vary, but SS Haupsturmfuhrer (Hamster), Vigilant Lieutenant, Inspiring Lieut., Red Devil, Eagle Eye NCO, and Imperial Sgt. are among the best, the rest are often only of limited use. Artillery are good, but being slow and weakly armored, they die easily! Good ones include 7.5cm LelG, 88mm Flak, Quad 50, Bofers, Pak 40, 17 pounder, Pack Howitzer, and 20mm Flak 38, to name a few.
For tanks, most like one of each at least, but that’s often hard to do with the “rare” rares (Panthers, Special Shermans, Soviet Heavies). You’ll want a few staple tanks like the Panzer IV and III’s for the Germans, T34 and BT tanks for the Soviets, and Stuarts, Shermans and Matilda’s for UK/US. Then you’ll want some Mobile Artillery like the Brumbar, SiG 33, Sherman 105, Sherman Caliope, ISU-122, Katyusha, M12 MGC, Hummel and Wespe. These are nice for taking out dug in infantry. No doubt you’ll use a lot of tank destroyers, since they’re really nice, so the best (for their points) are the Elite Stug III, Sherman Vc 17 pounder, SS Jagdpanther, StuG III, Semovente 90mm, M16 GMC, Hellcat. There are also heavier, but more expensive Jagdtigers and SU series for the German and Soviets. Medium-Heavy tanks like the Panthers, Comets, KV-1’s, and Sherman E8’s are sometimes hard to find, but are most often worth the points. Then comes the hardest to find… the heavy tanks. Tigers of all varieties, Pershings, Centurions, IS series (IS-3 and IS-2 Vet) and such like them. Often Very hard to find, they can be nice to have in you army for the scare factor, but most players like multiple smaller tanks instead!
Lastly, all SS, Veteran, Elite, SNLF, ect… units are very nice to have, either tanks of vehicles. And units from the first 5 sets (out of print) are often hard to get as well, so they are “rare” in more ways then one! :D The Reserves set is the hardest to get, so almost any units from it are nice, but not especially needed.
All in all, getting a well rounded team for how much you can afford is your best bet, don’t try for everything, but get what’s needed to play a solid army for your favorite nations. If you’re wondering where to get all these units, checking online stores or your LGS might work, if not check ebay to find the latest Axis and allies miniatures deals. Hope that helped! :D

RE: What Booster Packsposted in Miniatures (Original)
@Deaths:
nice game table.
one question, How come the Brumbar and Tiger have not smashed the churchill arv yet. I wanna see cotton flames and smoke coming out of that british pile
There appears to be a mountain in the Tigers LOS, and a forest (with a Sherman Rhino) blocking the “Brumbar’s” LOS… I would guess that the Allies won Initiative, and move second, since all their units are well positioned! :D If that AVRE makes it over the bridge… those German Infantry on the other side are in for a whole lotta trouble! ;)

Nice to see a friendly face (avatar) over here, and glad to see the minis forum here is still alive (albiet barely). :D

RE: Errata Questionsposted in Air Force
A lot of these questions can’t be answered by other players, and only by the game designers, so I suggest you wait till the Errata comes out.
I can answer:
1. I don’t use the normal maps, so I can’t say, but I think if you put the two maps together, they have enough space to play the setup scenarios.
2. I can’t say if it’s recommended by the WotC, but I say go for it… it adds a lot to be able to use your highspeed! :D But it can be hard to run a retreating plane off the map! :D
3. I can’t say what the designers think about it, but all the time I just roll the dive because I have to, but never drop two Alt’s anyway. I don’t think I’ve ever dived two Alt’s in fact, so I think it’s just to make another move. Some people talked about houseruling a 1 Alt drop as a turn instead of a DM (Difficult maneuver).
4. Can’t say fro sure, but it would be broken IMHO if you could make 180 and climb. Besides, most pilots couldn’t do it well since the gforce resistance and control required to pull it off. (The same goes for why the Dive is a DM, it’s easy to drop, but a controlled power dive is harder!) :D
8. You have to say your speed before any movement happens. So like this:
My Tomahawk at Speed 5 moves one, turns right, moves two, tight turns, moves one. Like that! :DHope that helps! :D

RE: Why is Foruminis so much more popular than here?posted in Miniatures (Original)
As a member of almost all the A&A forums, I might be able to shed some light on this question.
1st off, Dead head has got the main idea, it started back when the old wizards forum went under, and all the A&A minis players went there. Instead of a cramped wizards forum, they had a community driven program where the players ran the forum.
When I started playing A&A, I came here and fond some of the cool maps and other cool things. Then, when I got into A&A Minis, I came back and… the forum for AAM was dead! I looked for info on the newest set (Eastern Front), and instead found info on D-DAY!!! That was 4 sets ago! :o Well, not surprisingly, I kept on looking, I found the wizards forum, but it was basically dead, since posts only appeared like once a day. The my friend showed me the Forumini, I got the newest HHR, all the maps I could ever use, an easy mapmaking doc, al sorts of stuff. Let’s just say I stayed! :D Not only did it have AAm, but it has even more WAS stuff, tones of online games and 1000’s of pages of info. I don’t play WAS, but now that AAAF came out, I play that, and it’s got a good start! (I played the first ever AAAF online game)
Now there is the seasablaze WAS forum, the Underground, and I think there are quite a few Spanish/german forums around. All good forums, but the ForuMini is the largest, and has the most creativity.Just saying! :D

RE: Axis & Allies Miniatures Set 4: D-Dayposted in Miniatures (Original)
So… is this board basically dead? I mean D-day was about 5 sets ago. Anyone really around here anymore, or has everyone gone to the Forumini and Underground?
