    • RE: So how do the Allies win again?

I won as the allies but I did get a little bit lucky.
First off, The Japs didnt attack till turn 2 and they consolidated a large amount of forces in China their first round and smashed it alot.  Also it took Japan 3 turns to capture Hong Kong, due to some skilled defense and a big reinforcement from Malaya with my battleship.  The Japs placed a minor IC in the terrotory south of Hong Konh and made mostly infantry from there  and pushed the Chinese all the way back to the Burma Road nearest the Brits.
The British build all men and used their planes and men to retake the Burma Road and let China place a few infantry which grew like a forestfire in a few turns.  The one man on Java did defend against 2 successive attacks involving at least 2 units.  He was my Rambo unit.
The Americans built a strong Navy with 4 carriers and headed South to New Guinea and met with what was left of the Austrailian navy and Japan massed in the Carolinas.  When the USA navy was slightly stronger on defense they moved their navy and retook Java, forcing Japan to move a large amount of its planes to a new airfield at Borneo.  While this was happening the USA built a large navy with the aim at attacking Japan.
Using planes and ships the Japanese Navy crushed the American navy but it was subsequelty wiped out by a few American fighter planes on the next turn.  America then moved in a lot of troops from Pearl Harbor to Japan and took their capitol with the navy built(if Japan were to build all men I would have taken Korea and placed a major IC there.

It was a heck of a close game, but the Allies won because Japan didnt take Hong Kong the turn it attacked, China was a problem, Jappan never got any of its NO’s, and the British bought all men.  Im the better player of the two of us, and I think I could clean house if I was Japan.  Just giving the story of a win, not a strategy.  Take from this what you want.

I am too.  I dont have AA50, so Pacific40 is easily the best axis and allies game I have ever played…feels like a masterpiece that misses the pieces.

    • Will They Make It Up For Us In Europe?

While I absolutely love the game.  I won my first game against a good opponent in a slugfest that had plenty of twists and turns as America on round 10 last night!  The map looks great, and the rules and pieces are amazing.
But the battleboard sucks, the NPC chart is lame, there arent enough tactical bombers (I didnt have this problem) but I was short on chips and it seems like Avalon Hill didnt pick up their end of the bargain (game looks great, poor presentation).
Do you guys have any idea if AAEurope40 will be a super game in the likes of AA50 with amazing battleboards, charts, and other little touches that made the game so memorable.  It just didnt feel like it here.  Do you think for the ‘super game’ Avalon Hill will spend the extra money and make it on par with AA50?

    • RE: Allied game plan VS J1 all out attack

I might have cost my USA game because I have been buying carriers.  I will purchase some destroyers from now on.

    • RE: Disapointed

I wish there were more chips.  I had to break into a few of the other axis and allies games to get some extra chips last night.  At first I didnt think I needed to but the infantry stalemate in Asia is necessary.
Oh, and after playing half of my first game (as United States) it seems like Japan has waaay too many planes, it starts with like 30 of them?  Just seems waay to overpowered.

    • RE: Just got 40' for xmas

Seriously, just use pieces from other axis and allies games.  My dad got me some cool mini pieces that I am gonna use for the infantry and some of the planes.  Sucks the tank minis are really expensive, even though they look really cool.

I got it too, the game looks great.  The board is huge, and all the other pieces I can fashion together from my other games.  Pretty great christmas present.  My dad also got me some mineature guys so I can play it with.  They are soo cool.
Seriously, am I the only guy who doesnt have many complaints at all!

    • RE: Rules Q&A

How does the United States get involved in the rules of Pacific 1940?  It says that they will need to be necessarily involved in all the other posts but I would like to know the method of how they actually get involved in the war.
In my opinion I think that is the biggest difference from all these games.  Id love to know, thanks.

    • RE: Actual AA pacific 1940 map pictures

Wow the map is big.  But then again this isnt the board, it looks like a glossy picture of the board.  What intrigues me about it is the massive amount of dutch colonies, will the netherlands be a playable country or is this just a piece for the AAP40 board?
Also, I know this sounds weird, but I would never attack America as Japan, but I bet Larry has an ace up his sleeve to force my Japanese hand.
All in all the board looks huge, and it will be interesting to be taller and more square than any other one.

Maybe WOTC hasnt given a price list yet and board game makers are just speculating to ensure they have all the sales after its been unveiled shortly.

    • RE: Endangered Species

I was wondering this myself.  I think that AAE and AAp40 will both be huge games that will be the cornerstones for Axis and Allies for years to come.  But there in lies the problem.  Will they be as smooth and brilliant as AA50 or will they be cheap and slapdash like AA42.
I think we can all agree that AA50 was a masterpiece, in terms of charts and boards and looks, and rules.  It was every player’s dream.  I think we are all expecting AAE40 and AAP40 to be of the same mold.  I am hoping they spend the time to make them like AAE.
But a 6 foot combined board, multiple countries, great new units, and new rules sound outstanding.  I think once AAE comes out, very few people will play the games individually and play them as one super game.

    • RE: Important Announcement: Larry Harris confirms existence of 2 new AA games!!

Sounds amazing.  It sounds like this game could blow AA50 out of the water! I figure together it will cover the entire world.  AAE40 will probably cover Europe, Africa, Most of the USSR, and Eastern Europe while AAP40 will cover Western USA to India to Eastern Russia to the entire Pacific.  My guess is the boards meet up somewhere around the Persian area and both ends of the map are West USA and Eastern USA respectively.
This game could be huge.  I just hope I have enough table space for it.
It would be sweet if I had one of those WW2 type tables and I moved my troops around with a craps stick like they do in the movies.

So will there be 3 setups and 3 different rule sets?
      AAE1940 Setup and Rules
      AAP1940 Setup and Rules
AAWorld Game 1940 Setup and Rules
Also will the world game cover the entire globe and be entirely seamless where the you can move between boards and such with no problem?

    • Allies getting smoked hard

Ive played axis and allies for a bit and picked up BotB a few weeks ago and have played 4 games, all which were German massacres.  In a few of the games Germany takes Eupen in the first turn and crushes all my forces.  I try to burn my fuel, hold Eupen, Bastogne, and somewhat of St. Vith but I just dont have enough troops.
Honestly, it seems like planes are very overrated and Im wondering if the game is broken.  Weve switched players and cant seem to find a way for the Allies to win.

Im not going to purchase one.  It looks like revised edition.  I just wish I had been a fan of Axis and Allies before Anniversary sold out.
