    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

      @C_Strabala:

      Let’s focus on getting the Italians taken care of first before we worry about the ANZAC or French. This thread is getting off subject….

      Every thread in every discussion forums will get off topic sooner or later. This happen because the Trolls have no disregard for human life and needs.

      IL should make a sticky and closed thread where FMG only post information about the prosject.

      Then we can keep this thread for small talk and jokes and BS.

      Agree, and Razor also think it should be individual victory conditions. In fact there never was no teamwork. In late 1945 USA threatened to nuke Russia if they did not move out from Iran/Persia. Razor remember the MB classic editon had an option to choose an individual winner by their % of IPC gain. Also if playing in tournaments, it would be nice to have a system with individual a winner, a second, etc etc.

    • RE: France and what should be done about it.

      @Brain:

      Yeah, but the Russians didn’t surrender.

      That is correct, butt do remember there was only 40 million french and 200 million russians, and Sovjet Union territory was like 30 times larger than France, and had a very severe winter, too.

      also if you visit http://www.dupyinstitute.org/ and look at the Captive Rate Study, you will see that the French did fight better than Italian and Russian soldiers. During the first phase of Operation Barbarossa, more than 3 million russian soldiers surrendered. So dont come with the “Russians never surrender” - sh*t BS talk.

      We have not yet seen the Europe map, so this is a quite premature issue to start discussing. Who know, WOTC may even get bankrupt before summer 2010, and then we will never even see this map. So what I try to say is, do you want cheese with your whine ?

    • RE: The new SBR system

      I dont know why I keep bother answering this questions, butt here we go:

      Dear mr. F. Tiger.

      We the community want escort and interceptors because it is cool to send em up.
      And they used them in the real war too.
      So they pretty much belong in an advanced game in this scale. In AA42 the basic game they dont.

      And guess what. Back in 1940 they said the same as you. It didn’t pay off to SBR Germany as long as they got a lot of fighters to intercept. Butt after 1944, when the Germans were short on fighters, then it was good business to SBR Germany. Get it ?

    • The new facilities

      This game come with:

      Major factory. Cost 30 IPC. May build 10 units. May be bombed for 20 IPC.
      Minor factory. Cost 12 IPC. May build 3 units. May be bombed for 6 IPC.

      Naval Base. Cost 15 IPC. Fix damaged ships and increase move by 1. May be bombed 6 points.
      Air Base. Cost 15 IPC. Do scrambling, paratrooping and increase move by 1. May be bombed 6 points.

      Looks good. Except minor factorys too should cost 15 IPC, that would make a more simple system.

    • RE: The new submarine rule

      With “solitary transport” I talk about trannies that move without surface warships as escort.

      If any surface warship is present in that seazone, the sub stay submerged.

    • The new submarine rule

      AA40 do basically use the Anniversary rules, but there are one exception.

      When a solitary transport move through or end the move in a seazone with an enemy sub, either in combat or non-combat move, each sub fire against the tranny. A roll of 2 or less is a hit, and there are only one round of combat. If the tranny survive, it may embark or debark or whatever it wants.

      Razor like this new rule.

    • RE: The new SBR system

      Hi Kev old buddy (you may call me Raz as usual) Razor needs help on this one.

      Situation: Razor play as US and want to sink the Japanese fleet (yes Razor is bad) in a seazone adjacent to the Phillipines. The P. island have an airfield and 5 japanese fighters, who might just want to join in the defense of the japanese fleet. Razor dont like that idea, so he wants to SBR the airfield in order to deny any fighters to take off.

      Can that be done in the same turn ? Is it possible to resolve the SBR on the airfield before resolving the attack on the fleet ?

      Am I really the only one here that thinks this new SBR system is completely unrealistic.

      Razor think the whole A&A game is completely unrealistic. He still love to play it. Its just a game.

      @Flying:

      My point is if you lose even 1 escort fighter the SBR was a loss IPC wise to you. With Defenders rolling a 2 for a hit that is too much risk.

      Who says the target facility is a factory ? Perhaps you want to destroy a port or an airfield, in order to deny your enemy to repair his two damaged battleships, or deny him to launch paratroopers in his next turn, or you want to attack his fleet and dont want his fighters on the adjacent island to join. Razor can think of lots of stratecig situations where he will be happy to sacrifice a 10 IPC fighter to a bigger cause.

    • RE: The new SBR system

      @Krupp:

      So say i had 2 fighters in Germany and the British were running a SBR with 3 fighters and 2 bombers.

      Do the British escorting aircraft have to kill the enemy planes before the bombers can continue their run, and attempt to pass through the respective AA fire?

      Say the British player attacks with his fighters,no hits. The German interceptors score 2 hits,so does the British player lose 2 fighters and can then decide to retreat without further losses?

      Actually it is Kevins job to answer, butt since you will give Razor + karma, I’ll do it.

      Remember one round of combat. Three brit escorts roll 3 dice, no hits. Two german interceptors roll 2 dice, both hits. End of dogfight. All surviving fighters retreat. All surviving bombers continue to SBR.

    • RE: The new SBR system

      Razor think it is optional for the defender to commit interceptors. If you dont want to give extra protection to your factory, or port, or airfield, then just dont do it. Let the facility’s AA-gun defend the facility. Nobody force you to commit interceptors. It is the defender’s decision.

      Razor also urge you to take in account that the dogfight between escorts and interceptors are one round only. And after this one round, all fighters retreat from combat. No escort fighters will be exposed to AA-fire.

      If the defender commit 2 interceptors, that defend on 2 or less, it is not very likely they will hit anything.
      In this case the attacker may commit 1 escort just to absorb a possible hit, so his bomber get through.

      If your territory are both attacked and SBR’ed at the same time, it is better use of the fighters to defend on 4 or less in multiple rounds, than defend on 2 or less for one round. Butt Razor not sure, must figure.

    • The new SBR system

      This game has a new and improved system of SBR.

      1. Attacker commit fighters as escort, and defender commit fighters as interceptors.
      2. One round of dogfight. Escorts attack on 1, and interceptors defend on 2 or less. Bombers dont roll dice, but may be taken as casualties.

      This is a nice reenactment of the historical dogfights for air superiority. The old system where the defending AA-guns shot down the escort fighters before they got in combat, was pretty much flawn.

      3. Attacking strategig bombers that survived the initial air-to-air fight, do now pick a facility as target.
      Bombers may choose to attack any factories, ports or airfields that are present in this territory.
      4. The faciliti roll AA-dice to each bomber that are attacking, pretty much the standard system.
      5. Surviving bombers roll dice.

      This was a great improvement to the old system, thank you Larry

      @djensen:

      Preview #4 is up and it is a high resolution photo of the map. It was the best I could do given the time and lighting that I had available.

      http://www.axisandallies.org/node/405

      Nice pix, Dav, must remember to give you a + soon. I dont know if it is the camera or the lighting, butt I can see two big valleys cross the map horisontally. Make me remember the old A&A classic MB map, that too had a big valley just where the map was folding. Made the infantry pieces fall. Too bad they didnt make the map the same way as AA50 Ann ed.
