    • RE: AARHE: Phase 2: Units

How about a more maneuverable, plane, making it harder to hit? Outnumbered British spitfires were much more maneuverable than the Luftwaffe, and the Luftwaffe suffered many casualties because of this. How about an early warning system. Allowing a fighter to reinforce an adjacent friendly territory being attacked and landing back in the territory from which it came?

P.S., we should make a topic for finalizations of phases, to keep everyone up to speed. It should only contain completed phases, like the turn sequence, time factor, etc. We should also keep comments to a minimum so it will be easier to see the final product of a given phase, you know what I mean?

Just throwing out some ideas so we could probably use them or work off them!

Mongolia would make a big advantage for Japan as a launching point into Russia, perhaps if you split it into 2 so that it would cost the same amount of movements to get to Yakut, placing 1 infantry on the Manchurian border.

So we are going to allow bombers to dogfight? Or are they going to have to take hits with out being able to hit the fighters back?

      @Imperious:

This war did not produce entire division level or corps/ army level formations of sniper units… that is way way too tactical and better fitted for AA minis.

I agree, 1 infantry piece represents x amount of infantry and snipers were incorporated in with the corps.

    • RE: AARHE: Phase2: Game Sequence

OK, I misunderstood, I thought first turn would be all Allies, followed by all Axis, in which case, the Germans would lose all of Africa with the Mediterranean fleet, and the us could pull out of Pearl Harbour.

With this sequence, it would actually be a lot easier to setup. I will come back later today and post a rough draft.

Now that there is a time factor, USA should not be involved with combat or non-combat and should be limited for buying units until 1943 or if any one of there units not including China or Sinkiang china is attacked. In the meantime, UK transports may go a seazone adjacent to a US IC load up to 10 IPCs each transport and bring them back to a UK IC. This money is subject to being sunk and can only be spent at the IC it was brought to.

The game should start in 1941 or 42 because thats when the Germans were pushing into Russia.
Also, the pact between Russia and Germany was that they would not attack eachother, correct? Now before Germany broke that agreement, their ally, Finland was requesting help for the Russian-Finnish war. Hitler had a meeting with the Finnish leader and told him that he was not able to send troops due to the underestimation of the Russian forces. In reality though, the prize for the Russians in this pact was that the Germans would not assist the Finnish if the Russians attacked. Now shouldn’t Russia be in control of Finland? I understand that their is no Finland on the board, but that can be taken care of with a marker. What do you guys think?

    • RE: AARHE: Phase 3: land Combat

This is always the way I thought bombers should work.

When included in a ground battle, the bombers would sore in and sweep the area, allowing the ground forces to get ready and attack while the opposing side confused. Bombs were not dropped while units were engaged with the enemy within the cities.
      With that being said,

A bomber fires in the opening step, casualties are removed immediately. The bomber may stay in for 1 more turn and repeat it’s opening fire step with a cost of 1 movement or it may fly into a second combat situation, sbr or battle.
If the bomber starts out the resolve combat phase in a SBR, then the AA shots fire first, followed by the bombers 1 die at IPCs, at this point the bomber may fly into a different combat situation, or stay in the SBR at a cost of 1 movement and enduring another AA shot before rolling a second dice at the IPCs.
In a naval battle, all kinds of air units were subject to anti aircraft fire from gun placements on battleships, therefor, I believe that aircraft should endure AA fire in the first round of combat, unless they are accompanied by a surface ship.

I know I am forgetting something and I will post it later.

    • RE: AARHE: Phase2: Game Sequence

Has anyone said anything about a different setup to accommodate a new round sequence? The game is setup to accommodate the original turn sequence, and if the allies all go before the axis, than they can hit places that were supposed to be fortified. For instance, UK would be able to attack Libya and Algeria and take both, Us could fortify or pull out of Hawaii, making Pearl Harbor non existant, UK could wipe out the Mediterranean fleet, things of that sort.

The Axis would not be able to come back from the Allies first round. I believe that the Allies should go at the same time and the Axis should go at the same time, but there needs to be an alternative setup for at least the Axis so they don’t get over powered.

    • RE: AARHE: Phase 3: land Combat

I believe that all units should be able to retreat after enduring 1 round of fire. It is very unrealistic to have an attacking force completely wipe out a defending force. The British were cornered in France and retreated back to England, Rommel retreated from the British counter offensive in Africa. The only times where the attacking force completely wiped out the defending force was not only, but usually in the Pacific rim. It just seems more historically accurate to me to be able to give both sides the option to retreat after 1 cycle of combat.

If this has already been said, I apologize. I am new to these forms and there is so much to read and I am suffering from a heat stroke.
