This is awesome, sired! I love it. Really looking forward to the Europe half.

Just like FOWHEAD, I think I might need to build myself a 4 by 8 table. Question is where to put it?  :-D

This looks fantastic! I love that it’s so far from OOB. That’s probably not to everyone’s taste, though, but I sure like it!

Looking at it, I think I’d prefer the territories without colours, just to really distinguish this from the OOB map, and to cement the old-timey war map feel.

Hat’s off to you, sired. Great work! True artistry.

This is awesome! Reminds me of one of the maps in the Churchill War Rooms in London: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-BLxveuNaTU4/T-LFa4R3djI/AAAAAAAAAqU/BK8HoXUKmMU/s1600/DSCN2148.JPG

Would also love to see a bigger picture when you have it!

Kepp up the great work. :)

My card deck accessory will be available soon, it will have blow up box cards and mobilization zone cards for each nation. This deck will also have reference card information like order of play, starting income, cost of units, R&D charts as well as turn sequence steps… these cards will reference info for both the 1940 and 1942 scenarios.

That’ll be great, YG. Should take care of all the different needs previolusly handled by the game aids on the map itself. Can’t wait to see the deck!

Great work, Sired! Can’t wait to see the land painted!  :-)

I agree with IL and YG; the water looks great! Like you said, though, you might need to adjust it a little when you paint the land, depending on how it looks. Love the wave/ripple effect you’ve got going on.

With regards to your blow-up boxes where the mobilization zones used to be; I’d personally prefer to have a clean map, without any game aids. I know that those sea zones are largely unused, but I just like the clean look. I would use your map as is, and add some “mobile” game aids to it. Let me explain; for example, you could print out a couple (maybe three or four) generic numbered blow-up boxes on card stock and add some sort of numbered marker/flag to that. You could then place that marker on the zone you need enlarged and put that territory’s units on the corresponding blow-up box card.

Other than that I like the idea of adding the azores and/or canaries, as well as the transparent ocean names (as long as they’re subtle), and as YG said, maybe a nautical compass, if it works.

Don’t I know it. Take it easy, man. Don’t sweat it. Burn-out is a real thing. Post something when you can, if you can.

If you’re willing to share your work I definitely think you should post it here. I don’t think you need to worry about stepping on people’s toes. You creating your own designs does not diminish the efforts of the other members of this forum. It simply comes down to people having different needs and tastes. I say go for it!

You’re a busy man! Really looking forward to seeing this project progress.  :-)

Another question; are you going to keep the connecting land between Scotland and Northern Ireland? From a gameplay perspective I can see why you’d do that, seeing as the two countries belong to the same zone, but it just looks a bit weird to me to see it like that. Looking at the origial map though, they’ve put the UK roundel right where that land bridge is on your map, maybe you were planning on doing the same?

Regardless, you’re doing great work here. Keep it up!

Cool! Glad to be of help!

Another thing I thought of; border between SZ122 and SZ123 (Iceland) could be moved a little further to the west (left). Just to make it a little more clear that SZ123 is accessible from SZ117.

Again, great work. Keep it up!

Looks great, Sired! Can’t wait to see the land zones painted!

One thing I noticed is that some of the seazone borders don’t line up as they do in the OOB map. I found two in particular:

Border between SZ97 and SZ99 connects with land in Albania rather than Greece, meaning that Greece is completely surrounded by SZ99 whereas in the OOB map it borders both SZ97 and SZ99.

Border between SZ93 and SZ95 doesn’t line up with the border between Northern Italy and Southern France, meaning that Northern Italy has access to SZ93 and SZ95, which is different to the OOB map where it only has access to SZ95.

You might have noticed this already, but I just wanted to make sure.  :-D

I think this is going to be a great improvement to gameplay. Central Europe always gets so congested!  :-)

Keep up the good work. Happy new year!

      Lookng great so far, Sired!

I’m assuming you’ll extend Europe and western Asia southward in order to enlarge it. Or do you have something else in mind?

It’ll be interesting to follow this project. Looking forward to it!

This is a great idea! I always find space to be lacking in central Europe, and Africa has too much of it, given the amount of minis that tend to end up there.

I actually had the exact same idea, to create a map with Europe enlarged, but you beat me to it! Also, I’m sure, considering your experience, that you will do a much better job of it than I ever could.

Another idea I’ve had is to add a bit more water and land at the top and bottom of the map. I’d, personally, like some more space up there, especially in seazones 71 and 127 (Archangel and South Africa). Love it or loathe it. It might be something to  think about.

I have to say I love what you’re doing with your customizations, Sired. You are a true artist. I’ve been lurking the forums for quite a while now, but I just had to comment on this since it’s one of my biggest gameplay gripes. :)

      Keep it up, man! Cheers!
