    • RE: Global War 1936/39 Expansions

      Before you drop the money on an expansion your on the fence about. Download the rules and try it out. With spare pieces or something.

      I did that with the fighting railroad expansion. It was not available later when I wanted it, so I just ordered the acrylic tokens and units separately. Love it! We dont use many others yet but we haven’t tried all of them. Netherlands sometimes but British could realy be hamstrung by losing the dutch money for themselves. Let the British player decide. Its 50/50 for our games so far when we try it.

      Really hope the expansion in South America works out. We are considering testing a few variations of our own. Mainly to invole the continent that usually gets ignored completely.

      Got a buddy with a few different 3d printers and materials. He keeps having issues with cooling times between layers. Printing in quantity helps but not enough. The parts are so small if anyone has a good result in 3d printing units please let me know, what material type and brand you are using. Ours endup being semi melted usually or leaning with the fan. Its more art than machine it seems. Or we need to drop a few thousand on a high end printer making it not worth it.

      Good point SS. Unfortunately the photos are a casualty of changing permission costs now. Here is the link. Not sure if this was the only one.

      Arallie, please share your creativity. If you want to do this I’m sure someone else is considering it also.

      Cool system.
      I like the variety of options it opens up.
      Definitely worth a shot just for something new. Even the best game gets stale without variety.

      I’d be entertained by Russian pirates…

    • RE: [AA50 & AA42.2] Fixed Cost Techs + Tech Expansion

      Nicely done, we may tryout the buy technology.

      This is similar to the way we play our HBG1936 game. We bought  tokens/chips of a yellow colour to denote any upgaded/heavy units under the pieces. They interlock with oob chips, Blue marine, etc.  Better to experiment with these instead of buying new sculpts you may not use, and rather simple/cost effective to implement. Available at HBG or some boardgame stores, mini poker chips by Kaplow games.

      The cost of new type of units at +1 or +2 makes sense. Heavy tanks are using more material and the option to buy regular tanks instead is nice to have. This slightly nerfs the technology.  Since you spend more, you buy less units.

      I like buying the breakthrough, but some won’t.
      Have you considered allowing the option to roll for tech or buy it? Some players love the idea of rolling for everything and when frustrated will buy tech. later.

      For the political situation.
      Example: If both sides pay for Turkey’s interest? How do you decide a 50/50 die roll, Bidding war, Something else?

      Recommend looking at HBG1936 rules and expansions, they include variations for most of your ideas. This may give you some other angles to look at your technology changes or methods to implement them. They are not perfect but different and play tested.

    • RE: [HBG 1936] eliminating zero income land zones

      1936 senario we are using the add 1$ to every landzone and double for original German house rule and Russia is free of Berlin fall declaration of war restrictions. This one is so bizarre we are continuing even though its 1946 by the calendar next turn.

      Allies went for Japan first. Russia joined in and attacked allies for Chinese ownership. Us beat Japan down as a can opener. Then had Australia take all of Japan’s money and land (just because I wanted Australia to dominate the Pacific when America went with everything Atlantic). As a result Germany went sealion but was kicked out by uk when Russia attacked Germany. Italy has all of Africa and most of south America. While Germany is fighting with Russia. Its now a race, For the Atlantic and south Africa by US and Australia is taking China and Eastern Russia while eating up pieces of Africa, to liberate the UK its south African factory back. Both are out of position to attack Germany. Axis is using Italy as a screen similar to how the UK and French start the game, on the defensive to buy time, for Germany to focus on its only front Russia. French and Netherlands are eliminated they lost all possible capital locations on the same turn. When london was lost and Italy owned all Africa. Vichy was attacked to prevent funding the German war machine and became German aligned. Only allies way to attack Germany.

      Honestly the income change, only changed our purchase power per turn but was virtually identical in ballance of income across all players.

      @Gargantua:

      Well stay in contact guys.  I also just got married/honeymoon/trip haha and completed an offer on an apartment as of yesterday. Lol so I know your pain.

      We could easily do this next year.  Anytime really.

      All I would suggest is that the E-Town crew gather up and see what could possibly work for them.

      Congratulations!!!

      I’m still interested, face to face way better than on line IMHO. Should any locals wish to PM re meetup, willing to host an Edmonton meeting/game. Semi local Calgary or Grand Prairie  etc are welcome. Definitely offer you a reciprocal deal Gargantua.

    • RE: Man in the High Castle Scenario

      Nice an alternate setup for the same board. Good idea!

      Really only need to change setups and development of a new political situation. Then use the same mechanics of whatever version of map you play 42, 40, or other global varrients. The hard part is establishing a balance. But you are creating it from scratch, so any bonus income, setup etc. Is adjustable to create the best balance.

      Wildcat’s point on resistance makes sence. Possibly allow revolt if no units are in occupied zone. There are different partisan rules on here or make your own. If you want to resurrect the occupied and dead nations.

      I dont have amerika, but I believe it is later in timeline so you could borrow some tech etc. From the varrient.

      @Ben_D:

      Hey Rank, these rules are part of Jinx’s mods that he uploaded.  We’ve made sure to address all other things that these rules affect, to the best of our abilities.  We just didn’t like the vanilla mechanics, which is what drove us to do this.

      Exactly why we went to 1936 from oob global.
      We have been tweaking the rules and mechanics too. But this is really interesting. Its like a new version of the game. I had seen some of jinx’s previous posts like the national sheets. Realy like the way you’re group is going with this. Keep it up! I’m inspired to continue our mods. So far not as ambitious as you’re group though. Id be interested to see the whole package and borrow or share some ideas. Most of ours are already posted here but I can send our modified sheets etc. They are still works of progress though every game leads to more "why don’t we? "

      Wow! You have definitely focused on this a lot more than myself. I could see this working. However its a total redo of all existing air war. Maybe too much change,  need to redo the entire rulebook to make this work. Changes scramble airbases etc.

      I like most of it, but its an entirely different game mechanics. Essentially a new game on the same map. Have you changed anything else? Like kingkubba’s new rule set. Or is it just the air that you changed?

    • RE: GW 1936 Clarifications

      Yeah comintern is a lot of  fun if you can remember, its not just Russia from global 40.

      As for surrounded Paris. I would agree with you. For any other city to be surrounded It must be completed surrounded by controlled players not neutrals. But this one is odd since Germany is collecting vichy income. So I can see the other option is also possible.

      You must give members of your alliance their original territories. Table 4-2

      Once Allies are at war with the same major power and aligned they can all move into the same land zone, Same with Axis. But it would be a declaration of war if the nations were not aligned yet. This is why Britain can’t reinforce france until they are both at war with Germany.  Same applies to all other nations no mater if they are Allies, Axis or Comintern.

    • RE: GW 1936 Clarifications

      @PanzerPenguin:

      So - an interesting one that we’ve come across.

      When USSR and UK/USA are at war with Germany:

      Can UK/USA move troops into USSR territory?
      If Germans Occupy USSR Territory and the UK/USA ‘liberate’ it - does it go back to USSR or the ‘conquering’ Army?

      First question NO.
      Allies and Comintern are different alliances, and thus can never be Aligned.
      Page19 4.3 Alliances and
      Table 4-2 Nations that are aligned to one another may:
      A)give or deny permission to enter fly over or move through straights or canals.
      B)defend together in land or sea zones.
      Also answered in FAQ here is the link:
      http://www.globalwargame.com/www/question/spanish-civil-war-with-russia-winning/

      For your second question Yes or No, depending upon the decision of the liberator.
      Page 48 9.18 voluntary return: If a land zone you capture does Not belong to your Alliance you MAY return it to its original owner. (i.e. nation whose roundel is printed on the map). This is usually the case when Soviet or Allied players recapture land zones that belong to the other. To return a captured land zone simply announce your intention to do so and move all of your units from the zone. Remove your roundel and place the receiving nations roundel on the zone.

      @PanzerPenguin:

      I am referring to prior to the Burma Road opening, with Hong Kong being the only available port for Lend Lease to be sent to the KMT (the actual KMT ports having been taken by the Japanese).

      I agree that this should be possible.
      Burma road lend lease, occurs regardless of FEC war status, including lend lease from US via burma road while US not at full income yet. China at war with a major power the only requirement for British or US to send lend lease to it. Dont need to be aligned.
      If one is allowed both should be allowed. Situation is the same.

      This is one of artifical historical mirrorings that over scripts the game if you don’t allow it. History is interesting but the whole point of these games is to see how YOU would try to change history.

    • RE: Does anyone else feel that the whole Air War could be improved?

      @Andy6049:

      An interceptor that can escort?  Sounds like that type of role would be for a high performance/multipurpose fighter.  What kind of aircraft were you thinking of?  You could possibly use some different molds from HBG. Amerika also has some different aircraft that could work as interceptor or a multipurpose. The Japs have a cool interceptor plane in there.  Just an idea if you want to introduce new aircraft types.

      Yeah that sounds just like the jet fighter unlocked by tech. Consider an escorting interceptor that gets unlocked at stage 2 on tech tree, give it  higher intercept escort values.

      I was looking at a way that new units needed to be unlocked with technology rolls. Either stage 1,2,3… tank destroyers, amphibious marine tanks etc. Why not add this in too.

    • RE: Monroe doctrine!

      @HMS:

      Three important questions!

      If USSR attack Uruguay or Cuba in January 1939., could the USA declare war immediately because of the violating Monroe doctrine, or should USA wait for the economy to reach 63 IPPs?
      USA needs to be at full income to declare war. If for any reason this occurs yes it can declare war on USSR for Monroe doctrine reasons.

      If it can, does the USA economy reach 63 IPP or must wait July 1939 and start to roll dice?
      USA Must wait and roll for increases in income,
      Be Declared war on by a major power or gain income from peacetime bonuses. See USA national sheet for increasing income.
      Does also USSR economy reach full production or not?
      USSR only reaches full income by rolling for increases, peacetime bonus increases or If war is initiated by another major power on USSR. See USSR national sheet for increases.
      So no unless the USA was at full income and declared war on USSR in this situation.

      Otherwise this would be used as a cheesy move to get USA and USSR at full income earlier every time.
